The Intercept 2.2 Froyo update thread

Mine dissapear sometimes too...well not just shortcuts, pretty much everything on all 5 home screens. they usually come back within 10 seconds though. Usually sooner.

If I hit the home button it doesn't even show anything in there!

I don't have launcher pro

I have seen this also. However, this is different, the shortcuts do not come back.

Thanks!

hey i got the update and u cant use live wallpapers that disappointed me alot ..well i got the Update.zip file mayb thats why any help??.oo if i do gt the update i can still update rite??

So, I got my 2.2 update.... Not from VM, from you guys.
Well, no flash (of course) and no Live Wallpapers....
That is total BS BTW because I have seen Live Wallpapers run on the Sprint Intercepts.

So I force install Adobe 10.1 on my phone...
Phone will not even try to run it. It just crashes my browser as soon as I open it.

So I try to install live wallpapers...
Well, I need root access so I try to root my phone.
Will not even let me even try!
Will not even try install custom roms...
Will not even sync with computer if I got ADB running.

Well I FINALLY get my phone rooted (with no custom kernel)...
Now I need permission to install to my /system/apps...
Well, now Terminal Emulator will not work...
I get Advanced Terminal Emulator to work...
But now I can use super user with Advanced Terminal Emulator for some reason...

FINALLY got live wallpapers installed...
System will not even try to run it.
Seems like every "perk" program they do not want you to use closes without even trying to run.

I seriously think they sabotaged the phone.

Be careful about updating/flashing roms/etc.

I managed to brick mine today while trying to flash back to a stock ROM so I could update.

No biggy, I was thinking of switching to the Optimus anyway, so I went ahead :P

On the flip-side, I've managed to get 2.2 installed thanks to the people here... and have something potentially interesting to share as it may be a little known 2.2 feature.

Hardly a mis-adventure - a feature I was waiting forward to in the updated OS: improved voice synthesis (text to speech)... it seems to work.

I downloaded SVOX Classic TTS, and SVOX Grace US English (the latter is not free) from the Market under 2.1... And prior to tonight, was only able to get the Pico voice in Google Navigation and a reading program like Talking KJV Bible. Dissapointment - but hopes that in 2.2, there'd be joy.

Ahh - in 2.2, the voice directions in the Google Nav app and the dictation in the Bible app sound very nice coming from Grace. Really sweet.

Same. SlideIT's predictions I've found to be much more user-friendly than Ultra Keyboard. and Swype doesnt work for the Intercept's resolution yet.

Actually, I went to Swype | Text Input for Screens signed up for beta and downloaded and installed like normal, it worked! (I selected the English/Spanish not full download (too many languages :) ) It works for me, i use it to text mostly, use physical keyboard for emails and SSH'ing into my website's server via app: ConnectBot

Seems our resolution IS supported now :)

Thanks for that. I just installed the swype beta and its running perfect! :)

Oops! Looks like I'm a little behind in the times. Gonna try Swype and see if it compares to SlideIT. Thanks (:

Yea bt can't use live wallpapers tho when I tried to install one it said it must be updated . So like really once again I installed the update.zip folder and well no live wallpaper and no swype....so I don't know that inthe official one u can do all that or do I have the official?

@fozzy501: Swype isn't part of android core OS. Live wallpapers is though, i know why they removed flash, but live wallpapers!? I only'd use the simple ones!

Thanks, I visited the site, signed up for the beta, received the email, logged back in, downloaded the installer, ran it, and selected English/Spanish. I've gone through the tutorial and used it. Very very nice. On our small screens, text entry is non-trivial. Using voice recognition is helpful for little text messages but for email it's a drag. This is a nice complement to the Android keypad!

Is it me, or is the battery icon and the WiFi icons in the notification bar really poorly implemented? Other than that, the 2.2 version has been a pleasure thus far. The task manager app is interesting. I'm using that periodically to free memory. I may discontinue using memory booster lite.

Installed the new Froyo and all works fine, but I have one question and one question only:

Did they finally fix it so that you can turn off that godawful bleeping sound every time the phone goes in and out of range???

So far I don't see it, but please tell me they did. My apartment has horrible reception and I always have to turn my sound off inside.
Would love to actually be able to turn it on and hear when someone calls me. :p

I got the OTA update last night. The update went fine. Was so happy, until..... My phone is now pretty much unusable. It will work for awhile after I pull the battery or it reboots on it's own, or I can actually get it to respond enough to reboot it myself, but it can take up to 10 mins!!! for it to react to a button push or screen swipe. Using almost any app will put it on the path to non-usable. I've called VM and "Your trouble shooting is now done!" and I'm moved up to the android tech (still waiting). The basic tech guy reset my 3g, but that didn't help at all. I do have a lot of apps on it, but having moved all to the SD card I've got around 40mb free. I had about 40mb free for the update too btw. I'm so frustrated. Don't have a clue what it is that is doing it. Any ideas would be great. It's completely and totally stock. No roots, no roms, no kernals.

FIIIIINNAAAAAALLLLLLLLLYYYYY!!! Got the Froyo update this morning, but only after I called CS, and they said they would push it out for me, and I got it less than 24 hours later. Now, have to see how it works.

The likelihood of you being able to move all your apps to SD is about 0%. Many apps can't be moved. How did you move them? Using the manage applications part of the settings, or something else?

Or do you mean you moved every app that would move to SD there?

I'm thinking that you either have an app that isn't playing nicely with others or you moved something to SD that doesn't like it there. I'd pay particular attention to apps that not many people use and to games in general.

Try moving things back to memory from SD as a start.

the apps that would move over using the manage applications part of the settings.

Will start going through apps. :(

BTW - I will be back to let you guys know what I think fixed it. I hate it when people don't come back to boards with their solution.

So far, I removed Zeam launcher, and moved Dolphin (and plugin) off the SD card. My phone seems fine now, but it does that. I'm putting it through the paces to try and bog it down again.

It's Official, finally got the update as well about an hour ago when I activated my wi-fi at work! (I don't have much signal in my office), loaded, and working great thus far.

So I'm the only one???? Arrgggg! Mine will ramp up to 155MB ram usage (when I can even click that far in task manager to find out).

It's been more stable with the changes (above) that I made, but it still slows way down, and needed 2 battery removals last night (Total Breakdown).

Still waiting on virgin tech support.

Can't help you guys with what was wrong with mine. They're sending me a LG Optimus V instead. I'm jumping off the intercept bus (and never want back on!).

I was able to move damn near all my apps to my SD card. The big ones like Opera are what really counted for me. The few I couldn't were small apps, so not too worried. Just updated to the new Skyfire 4.0, going to play with that a bit, and also see how I like Swype, just installed that too.

My girlfriend is furious about the update. She had a long list of the login names (though not the passwords) for her accounts on different web sites. She kept it on her phone in a Memo created with MemoPad, so that she'd always have them with her no matter where she was. She wasn't aware that the update would delete the MemoPad application and all the Memos that she'd created. (And when she called customer support at Virgin Mobile, no one knew what to do. They transferred her to four different people, and eventually just offered her a $10 credit.)

I rooted around through her phone with the USB cord and tried to find any last remnants of her memos that had been left behind. She says that the on-screen announcement about the update didn't give her enough warning about the deletion of memos. (And if that's true, I'm surprised there aren't more people complaining about this.) Does anybody have any thoughts on a way to recover those lost memos?

The update messed me up a little yesterday, too. I was driving down the highway at 70 miles an hour, and I suddenly had an incoming call. I pulled over into the breakdown lane, and then tried to answer the call before it rolled over to voice-mail. But no matter how many times I pressed the "ACCEPT" button, the phone wouldn't stop ringing. [Because, of course, with the new upgrade, you now have to SLIDE that button instead of PRESSING that button...] :)
