so do people agree that if moto launch this at a fair price (off contract.. carriers are evil).. say the price of buying a new s3 now.... itll be a great phone? Thats what i think anyway. If its the price of a flagship samsung or htc its dead in the water.
And i hope the google play edition is the same price as the skinned one

$199 for 16GB and $249 for 32GB. Customization and 32GB model only on AT&T at launch. To spendy in my opinion. Get a gs4 or HTC one for the price.

Unless thats off contract price then its a steal.

  • Good mid to upper midrange phone
  • Motorola construction, Motorola radios
  • Better OLED 720p screen than other OLED 720p screens seen to date
  • More extensive sensor suite including barometric and temperature sensors
  • Market friendly color choices
  • Market friendly headphone color choices to match (read back, you heard that here first in one of my posts, confirmed today)
  • Interesting camera hardware upgrade
  • Target on longer battery life

And I agree - now it comes down to actual pricing.

Which - the blogosphere hasn't gotten right yet, they've been all over the map - so for me, I'll just wait and see what the real prices are from people actually selling it.

Exactly.

I think it's fair to say that if this phone launches at an unsubsidized price of $300 16GB and $350 32GB customized, then it blows up like a A bomb and you start seeing this thing everywhere. Maybe even $400/$450

However if you have to pay $200/$250 ON contract, it's going to hurt sales because the majority of the ones buying it will be idiot teenagers that just want a neat colorful phone and don't care about carrier contracts, especially now that you can "upgrade at any time".

That said - with time prices drop.

Off contract price would need to be in the $550US range to be even a consideration IMO. I'm basing that on the off contract prices listed on Verizon's site for the Droid Mini and Ultra, since this fall between them in specs.

I'll just keep my S3 for now...

I would not even buy this at $300 off contract. Why buy this when you can get a nexus 4 for cheaper with a lot better specs. A dual core is a no go in my eyes.

Where's the no bloatware clause? I believe it missed it.
I'm not sure how much I would spend for this now, off contract, but am disappointed at the contract price, doesn't bode well for an inexpensive off contract price.
And I am pretty sure VRZ is going to bloat it up. SOB, I want this phone but am not feeling all warm and fuzzy about it anymore.

Can I ask a honest question why do we care about this phone?? The nexus 4 beats it, gs4 beats it and the HTC one beats

I understand off contract as I am on a no contract option. But the nexus 4 is a better buy.

I think we're all hoping for a game changer.. something that breaks the horrible carrier model of doing things. Surely thats what google should be trying to do.. its in their interests and they have the power

What i wish google would do is sell a solid phone at production price, maybe even make a loss on it but make it only available off contract. I do realise thats a hard thing to do in the states though. What i really want is for google to become a profit free carrier. Thats dream land though :)

For me it's about the user experience, I love the HTC ONE, but I don't like blink feed, the GP Edition takes away Zoes which is something I do like.
IMPERFECT
SGS4 seriously? crap plastic build and worst antennae in the biz. And too big
IMPERFECT

I love me some moto and I want the phone, just want a nice price....

Pretty much I am an average American consumer, I want it ALL but don't wanna pay for none of it.
:D

What you need my friend is a frankin-phone! :D

The price of $199 means nothing to me. All I care about is off contract.

Same here when TMobile first released the Nexus 4 the price was $199 with a 2 year contract even though you could get the same phone for $349 off contract at the Play Store. So I'm hoping history repeats itself.
