The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Forgive me if this was posted already. I remember seeing the one pic but I don't think it was from this story?

This is the Motorola “X Phone”, and it’s going to level the playing field this summer | Android and Me

I really hope that what android and me is reporting is true. I really liked the look of the Motorola phone that is mentioned in that article and being able to purchase a phone like that (or design your own) for around $200 off contract would be awesome!

New render and specs.

Purported render of the Motorola X Phone comes with new spec rumors

Ah, just came here to post that myself.

I saw another version of that rumour that said sapphire rather than gorilla glass 3.

Trouble is, it's all too easy to make up. If it's coming in the second half of the year you'd expect a Snap 800 in the top end, screen rumours have been typically around 4.8". 720p is the surprising one, given than 1080p seems pretty well established at this screen size.

Well, we'll see. Wonder which (if any) leaks will turn out to be real?

Phonearena has it for November with the Snapdragon 800. The 800 has been rumored before but in July, which I don't think is possible?

They are also saying sapphire glass. I don't buy that.

Latest rumored Motorola X specs: 4.8 inch screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, November launch

http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/07/qualcomm-snapdragon-800-and-600-chips/

Let's start with the 800 and that claim of 1.75x performance. Assuming it turns out to be true in practice, it'll derive from the following improvements relative to the S4 Pro:

a shift to a 28nm HPm ("High Performance for mobile") fabrication process
an upgraded Hexagon V5 digital signal processor
the adoption of 800MHz LPDDR3 memory to match up to the PC-like 12.8GB/s bandwidth of Samsung's Exynos 5
an all-new Krait 400 architecture running at higher clock speeds of up to 2.3GHz
an equally new Adreno 330 GPU that'll offer a double helping of compute power
This SoC will be able to capture and play 4K video at 30fps, handle 2K video (or more precisely 2560 x 2048) at 60fps, and deliver the latest 7.1 channel DTS-HD and DD Plus audio standards.

The 800 should arrive by the middle of the year, but another upgrade option will get here even sooner, by Q2. This is the Snapdragon 600, which can be thought of as an S4 Pro with some significant architectural tweaks, a higher 1.9GHz max clock speed, a "speed enhanced" Adreno 320 GPU, and LPDDR3 memory. Qualcomm is specifically angling this chip against Clover Trail and Tegra 4, which suggests we could see it in a range of form factors very soon.

Found these 3 stories. All are from the past few hours.

The Motorola X Android Phone Waterproof Feature Leaked

Motorola X Phone: This Is Getting Ridiculous

Motorola X Phone: Rumors Suggest Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, Customizable Hardware, 2013 Release Date [REPORT] - International Digital Times

What I'm seeing from all the rumors:

4.7" - 4.8" Screen
720p or 1080
Gorilla Glass 3 or Sapphire
Snapdragon 600 or 800(depending or release)
Waterproof
Android 5.0(Key Lime Pie)
Up to 4000mAh battery
Customizable
Q2 or Q3 release, or both

Check out the phone at 1:13. :) :hmmmm2:

Weird, that phone has a huge bezel, especially around the bottom. And it looks like it has a very small screen, and the power button on the top... It looks like an old Android phone, but it's running new software with virtual on screen buttons. Confusing.

i'd like to think that since google bought moto's phone division that they'll be unlocked, or unlocked upon request. possibly have two versions available, one locked and one unlocked?

moto may have hated unlocked devices, but google seems to embrace them. only time will tell. i just hope that they throw the Maxx/MaxxHD's battery into whatever they're building.

I do not care which release day date is true, my upgrade is in November :)

Although I think I'll keep my Droid RAZR HD until the X2 comes out... Unless it supports VoLTE.

Well, that'll make deciding more complicated come November/December. With the new Nexus(es) and the Moto X out at the same time, nothing will be newer than the other and everything will be "top shelf". I'd rather buy new than 6-month old technology... now it'll all be new!

Decisions, decisions...

Damn. I've been waiting for my upgrade for a year now. I was hoping one of these would fit the bill. But not sure I want to wait that much longer!
