The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Very excited about the statements made by the Motorola exec today. I'm a bit tired of the jumbo phones myself. Will be interesting to see if sd slots will be included on this new line of phones. Hopefully they will provide razr maxx like battery life.

20 colors? Some amazing rumors to go with this phone. I'm worried the price will also be amazing. Amazingly high, if all the rumors are true :p

Yep, and at this point I don't think it's so unreasonable. Unless we're talking giant yellow windows phone ... :screwy:
I don't mean to sound like I'm knockin' the idea ;)
I just don't see why all the commotion about it - i mean, it's just colors. If it were something like processor type, speed, capability, etc (ie. functionality stuff) then yeah, that sounds good to me. I mean, there are cases and such that most people are likely to get.
but of course - I'm just 1 opinion :D

colors are stupid. you're just going to throw it into a case anyway. i feel the same way about people who complain that their phone is plastic instead of a "premium material". give me a lighter plastic phone any day, i'm just going to case it anyway. and the plastic is FAR less likely to break or dent while inside that case than your glass and aluminum phones are.

i'd prefer that it have even limited hardware customization. let me pick from a few processor speeds, ram amounts, and internal storage to adjust the performance:price ratio. let me play "build-a-phone workshop". you let little kids do it with their teddy bears, let me do it with my eternal companion!

Customizable hardware might sound like a good idea, but with a bunch of different possible configurations, good luck getting custom ROMs to play nice. Sounds like a nightmare for the devs and for the AF staff who will have to moderate that forum lol.:p

^^
Good point in regards to the nightmare it would cause ROM dev's :P I can only imagine the headache.
But! if Motorola and Google have their head on straight (and of course - assuming HW configuration is a real option), I'm willing to guess that they're not going to chop off their own heads by offering every single permutation of HW configuration.

Maybe something along the lines of different RAM (1 or 2 options), different processor - again, maybe one person wants the 2core vs 4core for financial reasons, or maybe battery (which wouldnt' affect overall ROM design) , storage - as it is common for Nexus series consumer can get 16GB, 32GB or whatever they're offering.

Now, to account for all the "simpler" possible permutations of HW configuration, Motorola has a 1-up on all the other Android phone manufacturers - Google is their daddy, and daddy will do anything for the child ;)
That is, I wouldn't think it be too much for Google devs to create a handful of Stock ROM's to support the different possible configs - again, assuming the number of allowed configs is restricted to certain permutations.

but, just my $0.02 and I know chances are I'm totally out of line :D But that's that fun in participating in the rumor mill. hehehe
All that rumor'ing about the X-phone.... it'd better be worth my struggle of waiting :P

I don't know whether cpu options would be viable. They'd almost certainly mean different motherboards, which is a design and production overhead, and you'd need a significant price difference to sell the lower spec in any volume.

The idea of "build your own" is fun, but a big risk to go all out on. I suspect those who say they'd start with cosmetics have a point.

If that article's rumor that it contains a 4000mAh battery turns out to true, then I might just cry tears of joy. :)

Gosh, if they could at least throw us a bone and just tell us
1. Release time frame (by quarter is fine)
2. Google Play store, yes or no?

At least then I can wait with a purpose :D

Lets just say it is an At&t exclusive. I don't know that I could wait till November? And then add on top the Verizon shenanigans of offering it or not offering 1 or 2 months later. The S4, HTC *whateverVerizonwillcallit(One) are very tempting. If I/O only offers a Nexus 4 with LTE I'll probably pass on that. I DO NOT want glass on the back of my phone. I need legit news on a Nexus 5 or the X phone or SOMETHING! But I know asking for legit news is crazy talk.

With that said...I'm bored.
