The new Samsung S5 soon to arrive.

Nope! I am waiting on the Note 4. I think the S5 is an ok phone, but I don't think the 2GBs of RAM is enough for the next two years of updates.

really knox did not know that....you think that sammy might knox all new phones to combate rooting?

Its not to combat rooting mate. They want businesses to buy samsung for their employees. Its a security "feature"

I have had the S1, 2 and 3. Love the S3 and have thought for some time it would be hard to beat. What more really can you expect a phone to do. Anyway, I was pretty underwhelmed with the S4 when it came out so was hoping for something exciting with the S5 that would make me want to update early but it really did nothing for me when I seen ti and read reviews. It has obviously a bigger screen but nothing else made me go wow. Who really wants a heart monitor, ok, one or two fitness fanatics who will bore you to death about their recovery time but other than that, useless. I find that most of the new software updates with s4 and 5 I would turn off as they eat battery. I have tried google now about 4 times hoping that each time if I stick with it, it will be of some use, but nope, each time after a few days I find it really useless and turn it off again. I think I will wait on the new HTC phone to see if it brings anything new, other than that any upgrade will depend on pricing of deal offered by my network.

I might in March 2015 when my two year contract is up. By then the Galaxy 6 may even be out. Plus, I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon... So, I'll wait and see what is out there as that is a tad over a year away and phones / tech change a lot. Meanwhile, I'm pretty happy with my Garnet Red S3. :D

Didn't see a vast improvement on the S4, nor the S5.

My S3 has been my backup phone for months now, I jumped on board the good ship Nexus and feel I did the right thing.

I am still happy with my S3. It still gets the job done and I like the size and speed.

Anyone thinking about upgrading their Samsung S3 to the new S5 when it arrives?

Yes!

I bought my S3 in June 2012 and its been a great phone. However I want (not need) to upgrade!

Like most people to S5 has not blown me away but I think it has a lot going for it. Real world tests are what I'm waiting for now.

I don't get the hate for the S5 though. I popped into Carphone Warehouse and had a look at some of the current crop of premium phones - LG G2, Nexus 5, S4, HTC One, Xperia Z1 and in my opinion the feel and build quality of all was pretty similar. OK some people get the hots for the HTC but the S4 build, in my opinion, is as good as all and better than some - so I'm sure the S5 will be too!

I haven't totally made up my mind but the only one that may sway me would be the new HTC to be announced next month - but the lack of replaceable battery and no micro SD support is a bit of a deal breaker.

No. I'm a year away from getting a new one but I highly doubt at this point that it will be another Samsung phone.

Possibly fancied the htc, however not having an sd slot would normally be a deal breaker for me, want aware that the new one would not have one. I have no doubt the new s5 will perform well but I want my new phone after two years to look like a New phone and unfortunately there is not enough difference between the s3, 4 and 5 to tell them apart. I think I have till about July to decide so will see what I end up with but I am definitely veering away from Samsung.

i dont really get why people are so disappointed in the s4 tbh. Once the s3 and htc one x were launched, the game changed. We had powerful phones that can handle any software thrown at them. Software still hasnt caught up so the s3 is still fine. Any bump in CPU specs is pretty redundant at this time (although 3gb ram would have been nice to see).
The camera will probably be excellent. 1080p is perfect. Battery is bigger. I like the textured back that people seem to hate lol.

Personally though i really dont like touchwiz ux so id have to put a custom rom on it meaning id lose the camera app and fancy features so it would be a waste of money for me. Nexus phones are finally excellent so thats what id be buying if i had the cash :)

NO NO AND NOOOOOOOOO!! My S3 is my first and last Samsung device. Knox B.S. plus TouchWiz crap plus desire to be the next Apple equals never seeing a dime of my hard-earned money again.

Lol aparently the system partition is 8gb!!!!
So if you buy the 16gb model, only 8gb is available to the user!
And on kitkat theres no more putting apps on the SD card

BIG deal breaker for me. Staying with Samsung.
I like having an extra battery because there are times on a trip or whatever where my battery runs low.
I also like SD support.

So HTC really dropped the ball here!

I intend to hold off and collect feedback from S5 user experiences. I like the bigger screen, faster processor, and slightly bigger battery, but am shocked at how large the ROM is. The limitation of Kit Kat to run apps from internal storage is a major shift from the way I do things. Assuming there might be a 64Gb storage option, maybe I have less to fear.

I'm also shocked to see the relative size of the S5 vs the S3. Since the RAM was lower than I'd hoped for, I've actually been studying the Note 3 which isn't much bigger than the S5, but does have a REALLY big screen, 3 GB of RAM, and bigger battery. I think I might be persuaded more easily to move into a Note 3 today as opposed to the S5.

I'll hold off a little longer and see if there is such a thing as the S5 "prime" version that might come with 3 GB of RAM, a bigger battery, and a free unicorn.

yes my contract is up in September, has a biker I like the idea of it being more weatherproof

Been waiting on the S5 announcement as my contract is up later this year. So far I am not blown away by what I have read. The S3 has been a decent phone but for my use it takes a lot of messing around with to get set up. Leaning ditching Android and going back to an iPhone. I had way less problems with media on my old iPhone.

Problem with that is once you had a big screen, you can't go back to the tiny screen iphone has. At least it is that way for me. I am considering the Nokia Lumia 1520 next time around, if I don't stay with Samsung.

I totally agree about the replaceable battery and SD card slot. I'm due to update in August. I've liked the S3, but am looking forward to a better camera. I think that will probably be the case. Having a bit larger screen, but not a much larger phone will be nice, too. The new screen is supposed to be awesome.

Have read several leaks now that suggest the htc one m8 May have micro sd slot for 64 gb expansion. If this if the case then I think I will be jumping ship as I think the htc one looks stunning and reviews of its front speakers also impress. Not long to wait now to find out.
