The official "I have my Droid 2" thread

Gallandof - Would your store happen to have some in stock? Or expect to have some in stock this weekend?

Haven't paid much attention to the hype since I'm on Sprint with the Evo, so I'm not sure what the stock levels are around (they didn't have any out to mess around with at the Verizon store in Hanover last night). My girlfriend is looking for a new phone - she's looking at the Ally or the Droid 2. Since I'm in Rockland, figure might as well give some business to local guy on the this forum.

we have 1 left in stock if you can make it in tonight its yours or if you just want to play around with them you can stop in.

we should be getting a drop shipment this weekend since its tax free weekend

I thought of doing this, yesterday, but decided:

a) it was too strict and authoritarian. ;)
b) Since most folks are opting for the DX (because of its superior specs and beauty) and because it's so quiet in here, I thought having more posts about the phone would make it seem like a more popular forum! ;)

Heheh.. I couldn't resist. Feel free to ban me, now. My wife would probably thank you! :) :) :p

Heh.. I'll show him..

Bye, bye Steven.. :p

I have my Droid 2 in my hands. I am finally home but I have to head right back out to an event. I don't get to play around with it until later tonight. *sadface*

Hello all, I was waiting in line this morning at 8 am to get my wife and I the droid 2 and I have to say so far it blows the droid1 we had away , great look and feel and cool screens and apps preloaded. love it ..... and the manager at store but 16g memory cards from our ones into these so that helped also ....

I'm coming from a droid eris, and by the looks of things this phone is going to be a quite a bit upgrade from that (i get mine 8/13 ugh friday the 13th).

was watrching promo video at verizon.com on my droid 2 and it clearly says it has an FM radio i have yet to find it ,so where is it lol ? You seem alot smarter than me so I thought I would ask .... Thanks

Wow... well I've spent about four hours total with my Droid 2... Fed EX came at 2:30, but I had some things to take care of today. So far my impressions are I'm overwhelmed, but I'm VERY impressed and have ZERO buyer's remorse!!

I am still unsure how on earth to use all the cool Voice features, and how to turn on WiFi to connect to my home internet source. I downloaded nearly 30 apps, including a few speech-to-text add ons and the NES and SNES Emulators (but I don't know how to use them yet)

Got mine today. Runs amazingly, specially since I'm coming from an LG Voyager...

I did have a few issues at first, like when I turned on Wi-Fi, it glitched and kept turning itself on/off over and over again without me pressing any buttons. Then it kept freezing and required at one time for me to take out the battery. I looked on the internet for similar issues and saw people had the same problem with the Droid X when it first launched. Solution said to just simply plug in the charger and it'll fix it. Gave it a shot, and it works fine now.

It's weird, the demo D2 unit that my VZW store had also was running the main home screen very laggy and unresponsive. made me a bit nervous, but when I got my phone I haven't had such problems at all. Maybe try not using a live wallpaper if you do, I notice a little more lag when running those.

Just got my Droid 2 yesterday. Very new to the Droid system and am playing around a lot trying to figure it all out.

Verizon just sent out a mass Email to new owners with some cool links explaining how to take advantage of the phone and extend battery life etc :)

Since I didn't buy my Droid 2 (it was a gift from Verizon Wireless), I unfortunately did not receive this email. Would you mind posting it?

This may have been discussed already and if so...sorry. But I was wondering if anyone has anything negative to say about the so called

I have nothing but good things to say about the keyboard. It's got good clicking action. The keys are nice and raised. I have a hard time imagining putting a better keyboard on a device this size.

redpanda: You should go into sales...I think I'll get it now...Thanks!

I got the Droid 2 yesterday for my wife. Ordered it through the Verizon website on Monday and got it on Thursday. So they are not yet backordered like the X. The keyboard on the 2 is a 1000% improvement over my droid 1. I haven't set it up yet. I am hoping for at least root on it so I can do some titanium backups on it. I'm discouraged to hear that the X's exploit has been fixed in 2.2.

Joe,

Glad to hear you got your new phone.

I totally agree with you on the keyboard. I went to the VZ store and typed in several URLs in the browser and didn't make a mistake on any of them.

I picked up a D2 today. I have been waiting for my NE2 date in Oct to enjoy the $50 discount. I have been reading the forums and going by my local store to play with DInc, DX and D2 since they came out. My intention was to wait tll Oct, see what else came out and make a decision then. My daughters both have had Eris's since February, so I do have a basis of comparison since I keep those running well.

Unfortunately, my old warhorse bb storm1, running the latest hybridOS from lyricidal, has stopped functioning to the point of barely at all. I squeezed all I could out of that sucker. I really had no issues with it till lately.

So, I decided to go ahead and try the D2 to check out the keyboard, swype and such. I have 30 days to decide to keep it or swap for a DInc , DX or whatever might come out (Fascinate? Probably not within 30 days, not a samsung fan anyway).

Bonifides aside, The D2 is much nicer than I was expecting. The size is very good, screen is very good and it is fast as heck. Much faster than the store demo model. There is very little lag. Sound is good from the earpiece and speaker, and through my Plantronics Voyager Pro BT ear piece. It "Does" everything advertised and more, so far.

Most importantly, call quality is superb and it holds a signal and call better than any phone I have ever had. Well my old Moto w385 was the best at holding onto a call until now. In my daylight basement, the further I go back to the underground part, the worst the call quality becomes. The calls are usually dropped when I get about halfway back. The D2 held calls in every part of my basement, even in the rest room, which is in the deepest part of the basement. This is a test I have done with many phones over the years, and this D2 has beat them all. That is just what I was hoping, going back to a Moto phone. There is Corp of Engineer land behind me and lack of towers back there has always been a problem with no solution. My daughters Eris's will hardly hold a call in the basement at all. Dont know how the DInc would do. I assume the DX would also do well. It is Moto, after all.

The keyboard is good and works well, though the top row crowds the screen frame. I just slide my fingers up to the frame and I know I am at the top row of buttons. The screen landscape keyboard is roomy and easy to use. Even the portrait keyboard functions pretty well. Swype is great, even with MUCH practice to do. I see using it a lot.

The UI doesnt bother me at all, although I do like Sense on the HTC's. I have my stuff arranged like I like it on the home page and may try out LPP at some point.

I have been a google and gmail user since the lab and invitation days. All that is superb, as well.

So far I really like the D2. We will see how the battery does and make a decision in 28 days, or so. I can actually imagine that this one might work out. Again, we shall see. VZW will sell lots of these to new smart phone and vzw customers. Especially those that might be suspicious of screen only kb's.

It's interesting, this phone had a warm-up period before battery life and processor speed were outstanding. But for my first smartphone in years and first android phone, this is the best phone ever!

I left At&t today, and it was either the droid x, or this, and since I have big hands... lol.., I picked this because of the keyboard, I came from a captivate, which I know am convinced are riddled with problems, and in my first 3-4 hours of setting up and playing with my droid 2, I don't notice anything bad.

I know some people said they notice lag, and if there is any, well it doesnt bother me...
Just setup pda net right before the battery died, will come back and let u guys know if its good...
