The OFFICIAL taking back the Captivate thread

I guess this is as good a place as any to ask this question:

What exactly does this mean from ATT's return policy? "You may exchange equipment one time within 30 days from the date the original equipment was purchased".

I've read plenty of people in this thread who've return their Captivate multiple times within 30 days.

Six weeks ago, I had a 3G. Then I had the iPhone 4 for three weeks. I've now had the Captivate for three weeks.

I just want to know if I can return the Samsung and go back to my 3G (for now) if I decide to within the next week.

I really wish motorola or htc would make an 4 inch android phone, they at least know what they are doing when it comes to making android phones imo

Hehe yeah Samsung should stick to making fridges and stay out of the phone business.

That said, and considering all the pros and cons, the Captivate us still the best Android phone at&t has, and I'm suck with at&t and love the Android OS.

Otherwise I would definitely would get a Droid X.

For all those folks talking about waiting for another good android phone on AT&T, there are two new ones coming in the next week or so. The Dell Streak, and the Sony X10.

The dell is kinda big (5 inch screen) and the sony looks about the same size as the captivate. For some lameass reason they are running Android 1.6, but with FROYO being just released on another handful of phones, a lot of the remaining brands will be pressed to follow suit.. Cant say Im a fan of Dell, but Sony is good, and hey, If all the damn features work on them, then its a win anyway.

What's up with all this baby crying? It's just a $200 piece. As I mentioned already in this thread, there is a new firmware update. People do report that it fixes GPS issues, improves performance and does a few other things. One guy even posted a video of his Captivate (with updated firmware) locking instantly on satellites GPS) inside the house. You can watch it here.

And BTW, companies never tell you when exactly the update will be released. It would be just stupid for them to do otherwise. They announce it when it's ready. Also keep in mind that Samsung already said that they are releasing Galaxy Pad in September. The Pad has the same hardware as Captivate and it will have Android 2.2 which indicates that Captivate will get 2.2 at about the same time. And if you can not wait, you can apply the lag fix (developed by some guys) today. With this fix, Captivate with Android 2.1 smokes Nexus One with Android 2.2. One can only imagine what is going to happen when Captivate gets Android 2.2

Just an FYI rub it in kind of update. I am now running Froyo on my Aria that I got today in exchange for the Captivate. Laughing my behind off about it too... what a waste of a few weeks the Captivate was... No looking back!!!

So it sounds like you are fairly happy with the Aria, When I returned my first captivate, I looked at the aria, it just seems a little small and underpowered. How are all the other features compaired to the Capt. anything you miss? How is the overall speed, like web surfing, music/video, and stuff?

I hear the Sony X10 is coming out next week. Supposed to be about the same size as the captivate, but made by an electronics company that just makes electronics and not fridges, microwaves, and blenders.

Its alot nicer than I thought it would be, especially running froyo... If I will miss anything it will be 720p video recording but other than that I am happy.

From what I understand, its not that Samsung fixed the GPS issue yet, its that installing GPS status, which you can find in the market place, and have it run in the background while using GPS, is taking care of the problem. I noticed the GPS issue immediately with my captivate and almost as fast found someone saying to run GPS Status in the background, and it has ran flawlessly since. I use the navigation regularly to help map distances for bike routes and such, so I have used it quite extensively and it really works great. Hope this helps everyone who's having problems.

Also the Captivate is gonna be ATTs best android phone for a while.. The X10 isnt supposed to be better , its just a cheaper option..

The dell will be the competition, along with some early next yr

Well I am stuck with The Deathstar for one more year so I am planning to keep the phone for now until something better comes to AT&T, and if it's not fixed by the time that better thing comes out then I'll do whatever it takes later including credit chargeback or suing them six ways to Sunday until I get a working piece of equipment or my money back. That'll learn 'em.

And we'll all be laughing when you aren't able to run Gingerbread. :D

Please explain your statement, as I don't quite follow, but if the Aria is so much better with Froyo, just imagine how great the Captivate will be when it get the Froyo upgrade next month (I believe that is true)..

You think this phone will get Gingerbread in a reasonable timeframe? That's a joke. Is Samsung had its stuff together the Captivate would be on Froyo already. When Gingerbread finally hits it will take forever and a day for Samsung to upgrade or they will just introduce another phone with it. XDA is probably the best hope for the Captivate, and that is OK, but from what I can tell HTC is more proactive when it comes to updates.

To explain, I got the Aria earlier yesterday and by the evening had it all set up with Froyo CM6 a10 from XDA. The Aria isn't just nicer with Froyo, it is better out of the box with Eclair too... Yes it has a slower processor, no HD video recording, and less storage. HTC sense is nicer than Touchwiz IMHO, the user interface was faster/more responsive despite the slower processor, and GPS was working out of the box fine. The Captivate might be nice with Froyo but that is a big "if". I have doubts about the hardware. I am sad I wasted my time with the Captivate. Android deserves better and if I were with google, I would not allow Samsung to make another Android headset until they get their act together.

That's too bad for you. My Captivate has yet to turn off randomly and I've had it since release. I too am blessed to have one without any of the issues other people seem to have. Maybe you can try that 5" Dell coming out soon.
My phone did it once... But I came from a windows mobile phone (also a samsung) and that shut down all the time...

So happening once isn't bad. It's the GPS that is killing me!

Took my phone back yesterday, I enjoyed having it but the cons outweighed the pros... Went back to my iPhone 3G and for the first time in 3 weeks my Yahoo e-mail is functioning properly. They tried to shaft me with a $35 restocking fee and then I mentioned the GPS issue and that replacing my unit won't fix anything since Samsung hasn't announced a fix. restocking fee was charged but will be credited on my next statement.

Why I returned the Captivate:

1. Yahoo e-mail unreliable/intermittent
*Google mail works great (no surprise here)
2. WebPages are easier to read on iPhone
*you need to zoom in most of the time in order to read WebPages
3. No two way Sync support with outlook
*Need upload contacts to g-mail(no Thanks)
4. Samsung Kies (the solution to syncing with outlook)
*Awful, spent 7 hours so far and can

Yep... It often shut down randomly... But I got used to it. GPS worked great though!

I used the Jack for a loonngg time and I never experienced that issue. And I know! The GPS was great! This fact is what kept me from returning my Captivate (at least a little while), because it's obvious that they're capable of creating a functional GPS.....I love the Jack and I STILL own it (as a backup phone, in lieu of insurance)....I don't know if I'll ever be able to let it go :D.
