Root The road to Android ICS 4.0 on the Triumph

I remember when the first ROMs came out for the Droid 1, some of the initial recovery versions didn't support charging. So if you ran out of battery on a bad flash you were SOL with USB charging.

Could the ROM be affecting the charge port? I don't know enough about how it works... You could get an external battery charger and try to flash back to stock if that were the case.

In any event, finals and holidays are over the hill, always good to focus on the important stuff.

I finally got all the capacitive keys working. The 'Home' key is finally operational and allows me to check out this new feature of ICS:

The new multi-tasking screen is really nice. It's dynamic, so the image preview updates when you move in and out of applications. It's a subtle, but a very nice touch. If you want to remove an application from the list, simply swipe the app from left to right and it'll slide off. If you long-press on the app, an options menu will appear allowing you to enter the app info. From there you can force stop a misbehaving app, uninstall it, move it to the SD card, etc. I believe Septembersrain was curious about this feature and I wasn't able to show it to her without getting the Home key working first. It wasn't difficult to fix, but it was slightly tricky to track down the actual problem.

I'm currently working on getting RIL and WIFI operational. WIFI will require a good amount of work to get it operational. However, RIL, which was a pain in the ass on CM7, should be easier to fix thanks to TG's RIL patch.

EDIT: It would seem the SEMC phones will be getting an official ICS update (Xperia Play, Arc, etc.). Should the SEMC series receive an official ICS update, I'll just kang the newer EGL blobs from that. I believe the Xperia Play is a MSM8x55 device.

Man your making all of us envious!!!! I want to say thank you so much!!!! I hope you your finals and all go over well. Again thanks again for all your hard work.

One of the supposed advantages of the microUSB standard was to keep any physical wear limited to the cable end, there goes that theory. Whenever my cable is plugged in, I try not to move the phone too much to prevent wearing out any loose connections (it's hard to do that when using it with cable on).

Anyway VM has a pretty good & fast 1 yr replacement policy, especially for the MT since they probably get above average requests for it. Some even report getting new phones in retail boxes (could still be refurbished, but at least hopefully they went through a better quality assurance inspection). I hope you stay with us Isaac, good luck on your finals and happy holidays!

Had my usb go out on me switching prl before knowing about anycut. Was very surprised when it started working again after doing a restore.

Question for all of you going through VM. I went through motorola. I thought that you could only get a replacement through VM if you had insurance with them.

They are very good with replacements because not having a contract they run the risk of losing your monthly payment if you need to purchase a new phone. Still, I shell out the 5 bills a month just to be safe.

Nope just own it for less than a year. No insurance needed. I doubt they want to lose money from us. They are hungry for money so they take our old phone and fix and give it to another person who has a problem with their, too. Go to love the service they deliver. Even fast shipping for the new phone.

Issac, just do what you gotta do. Call VM, get your new phone, finish out the semester, and enjoy the holidays. We'll be here waiting, if/when you are ready to come back. :)

Just tryed out ICS on my cousin's Droid Incredible and it is pretty awesome it really polishes the interface I can't imagine how awesome it would be on the moto triumph the browser seems so much smoother the camera is not working on that alpha but if anybody wants to know anything about ICS ask away I have the phone for a bit. I really wish this comes to the Motorola triumph!:/ thanks Isaac for everything idk how you do it :)

all this defective USB port talk is making me nervous! my car charger stopped working (it was a amazon cheepie (like 35 cents) and never worked all that well but is this the beginning of the end? all my other cords work fine and connect right away

so id just call virgin and tell them the usb is broken if its under a year (i'm only about 3 months on this phone)? do i need the receipt or do they go by activation date?
thanks guys

Yes the micro usb in the phone is perhaps the weakest of links, but I would hold off getting a replacement if all your other cords connect quickly....
Avoid moving the cord or phone around when connected if possible to prolong it's life. Since almost everyone on this board has a Triumph made in September or before, and since the replacement will probably be a refurb that was also manufactured in the earlier days of this phone....perhaps, just perhaps the OEM manufacturer of this phone will fix this issue if they don't soon discontinue or update this phone. Not everyone has had this problem yet and we may be in a growing minority but it's growing.... Early on I bought a charger and battery from China so that when my USB went I just kept running the battery very low then swapped it out and charged it. I find many micro usb cables to be shabby too and you said the one that doesn't work was a cheepie, so it might be that and only that at the moment. We all know how good this phone is and there is really nothing Virgin has at the moment that is better. If yours doesn't go for a few months or more and you finally need a replacement you may have other options and Virgin will still most likely give you a week or two to buy insurance on the new phone. Mine went in just under six months and my replacement USB is loose but works perfectly so far. I may or may not get the insurance because my phone will still be under warantee till the beginning of July and if they don't replace it again then maybe a repair will be best anyway. Just a suggestion and something to think about.

You should of knocked on wood...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the charging/USB port no longer works on my Triumph. I was going to try out the libs you guys posted, but when I went to push them, ADB was still waiting for the device. I thought it might be the cable, but none of my other cables worked and no charge was sent when I plugged the phone in the wall. I guess the constant wear and tear eventually beat my Triumph. It's kind of depressing to slowly watch my battery die. Sigh.

FWIW, I'm going to go to my local cell store some time this week to see if it's just the cable. What concerns me is that I hear the click when I plug in my cable, but I don't get anything. I'll talk with VM to see if I can't get a replacement (Triumph's have a 1 year warranty, right?)

To those who donated after December 1, 2011, You'll be receiving an email from me some time tomorrow. For now, I will no longer accept any donations as I cannot work on the phone (the link will be removed from my sig). Furthermore, it's Christmas time! Spend that money on yourself or loved ones. :)

As for ICS, I will be updating my "build CM7 thread." Those curious to see what progress I've made (or lack thereof) can check it out for themselves. I'll see about putting together an extreme alpha build package for curious users to play with.

I'll be going off the radar for a little bit as I have finals this week. It's gonna suck having to go back to my Optimus lol. But hey, that phone's a trooper.

Anyone know where that build he is talk about is ive googled it and searched in the search bar above thanks.

MIUI announced a 4.0 version of their software. http://miuiandroid.com/2011/12/miui-rom-ice-cream-sandwich-preview/

IMO, the ICS interface looks better than MIUI but I thought some people might be interested.

Maybe if I ever take AP Computer Programming I can help here and there with Android development.

You may not actually need to know programming to do it. A lot of it is paying attention to details, learning how to work github, linux, building environments. Then googling for answers. Including finding patches that other people have worked on and just merging them into the MT branch. It's like a treasure hunt :)

I have moderate experience in Linux and stuff, but not nearly as much as Isaac does. He's pure genius.

Anyways, wouldn't some decent experience in Android development be helpful? I would love to help, just don't know where to start.

Android development is mostly about programming in Java (a nice object oriented language) in a sanitized development environment (thanks to Google & their dev tools).

This kind of work is more about low level hardware/software interactions. I think the main thing is getting other people's solutions/fixes/updates merged. Which means searching the threads, other people's repos, compare differences between files. Trying their solutions in your build environment, if it works, push out the results so others who follow your repo or searching for the same thing don't have to re-solve the same problems. The fastest way to learn something to jump in, ask questions, search, don't be afraid to make mistakes... This is cutting edge stuff

I am so jealous that ICS will be coming to the Triumph, I sold mine to go to T-Mobile monthly 4g. I actually went on here to make another donation, you made me love the triumph, and I still miss it. I wish it was GSM because I would still be using it now. I would love to donate more change, your hard work on this can not be underestimated. I don't even have the phone to appreciate your work and will send you a donation(I still have your paypal email :) Please do not refund me. I get paid on the 22nd be on the look out ;)

are they using c?

are they using c?

yes, mostly. from what I've seen. Maybe some assembly and C++ here & there. Also I should mention the MT's specs are very similar to Huawei's Ideos X6, so variations of that phone's drivers & fixes could work with the MT.
