It sure isn't.

My hurt came from what I did Saturday going to the game. Climbing steps is a bit difficult in that I have to step up with my left foot only and lead with my prosthetic right going down. So when I climb stairs that left thigh gets twice the work that someone with a normal right leg would get.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone that is for sure. Even for someone with just a broken foot in the cast and boot thing, climbing stairs like that sucks. Not being able to do a step over step also slows you down since you step up one step bringing your other foot to the same level your first foot is on and not the next one up.

I have tried doing a normal climb but only for a couple of steps, and not at the height I was at in the stadium. My hope is when I loose some more weight and more practice I will get better.

Yeah, it should get a bit easier to get around once you tone up some. I could lose a few pounds myself.

LOL. She knows it. Thankfully she only makes it about once a year. On New Year's Day we have an open house for friends and family. Mom makes a couple appetizer type things, 4 soups - one of which is a giant pot of chili - and then desserts.

I came into this late....and I admit to being nosy....and I'll happily delete if you want me to but what happened that you have a prosthetic leg?

I just don't want to hurt the leg that is in the prosthetic socket. My first socket was hurting the leg and caused bruise and open wound when basically left me stuck in my room not being able to use it until I healed. They had to make a new socket for it. That reminds me, I have to pay the deductible and 20% for that which comes to about 1,300.00. I am glad the first complete prosthetic (specialist visits etc) hit the insurance after I hit my out of pocket limit so it was at 100% coverage at that thing cost over 9 thousand dollars all said and done.

It's okay to ask. My right foot issue started with me stepping on a nail in 07. It got infected and I went in the hospital. It healed up and I was back off to work and everything was normal though had scar tissue in the foot from the way it had to heal up the cavity from the infection and surgery.

Then in December of 11, my foot started really hurting and I was having trouble walking on it without it wanting to roll over to the outside. I cut my day short, cleared my service calls, and told the boss I was going to see the doctor, got home and took off my work boots and my sock was all bloody. Mom took me to the podiatrist and he diagnosed it as Charcot syndrome and the infection was back, and off to the hospital again. The hope was to heal than I would wear a permanent brace on that foot to walk. I was out for six months and was trying to get back to work wearing a rocker boot and waiting for the brace boot to be ready when I started getting sick. the infection just would not go away and i was suffering sepsis. So off to Shands hospital, where they told be they had to take the foot, which is the mental equivalent of someone hitting you in the head with a cement block.

I am oh so glad I paid for long term disability insurance. I had to leave employment with ADT, but they were good to me and were sad to see me go. My boss told my mom that it was sad they were loosing the benefit of all my knowledge. I was the local office's access control guru.

I was with them for 12 years. I was sad to go too, I had built enough time to have a month of vacation every year. :D

Wow! That is one hell of a road you had to go on. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you seem to be very well adjusted to everything now.

If you're ever in north jersey around new year's just send me a message. You're welcome to come. Like I once told my gramma when she scolded me for talking to a stranger in the airport - he isn't a stranger, he's just a friend I haven't met yet. :D
 
Yeah it's a rough road. I just wished I had seen the bridge washed out sign first. LOL.

One of my friends commented on how well I was handling it. I told him that there was no sense in pouting about it because pouting isn't going to make it grow back, but if it is, then let me know and I'll pout like no one ever has LOL

I have a cousin that lives in Bloomfield, NJ. I am from Long Island, NY originally.

I had a family vacation to NYC on may or 07 that included me, my brother and sister, mom and dad. I haven't been on a plane since then. I wonder how much of a hassle it will be to deal with TSA now that I wear a prosthetic... :rolleyes:
