Root The Villain 5.4 upgrade thread

I used to be able to... but now I can't... I just did a nandroid restore from a couple days ago, and I still can't see paid apps...

when I go to "top paid" it says "no matching content in android market"
 
Am I supposed to flash the zip or install the APK inside?

Just weird that it worked before...

(EDIT) I tried flashing it and it did not work. Still can't see paid apps...

So it seems to only be when I am connected to my work's wifi, which, every time I am, I get a notification that my phone cannot determine my timezone and I have to set my city. The phone does not have my city or even my state (Connecticut) when I search, so I punched in New York just to set something, and all it does is disconnect the wifi, I connect again, and again it tells me unable to determine location... weird, and annoying..
 
Has anyone experienced dropped calls here and there after installing 5.4? Such as being in a conversation for about half an hour and suddenly drops. It doesn't happen frequently but its becoming an annoyance lol

Have you tried rebooting with GPS turned on? There seems to be an issue determining your location (with or without GPS) if GPS is not on during boot.
 
just got my head round rooting and running 5.4 , am i right in thinkin 5.3 is just that little bit better and if so why ?
 
Try getting Sound Manager from the market... My phone did that with a stock rom, sound manager will show you a setting that says Never Vibrate... not sure what does it, but that'll let you fix it.

Its not bad... but definitely not polished, many things are force closing and the phone will lag for no apparent reason then reboot.

I'd recommend waiting until another rom comes out.

Speaking of which.. does anyone have the direct link to 5.3? I can't seem to find it..

Thanks, downloaded so will see if it fixes it. I'm hopeful it will as despite vibrate being switched on against Handcent etc, the sound manager said it was off. Switched on, just waiting for a text or email now to test........

Since putting 5.4 on I've not had any FC's yet, and lag has been at a very minimum. Set up auto killer as well (just to moderate) and the scrolling around the screens is a smooth and fast as you like :)

Did you wipe before installing? You should
Did you do a full Titanium restore? You Shouldn't, just do a missing apps restore.

Running great here, very fast and no FC's. Only issue is having to have GPS turned on when rebooting to get location working.

yep did a total wipe, formatted my memory card too. I used Astro to backup/restore... should i have used titanium instead?

ok, i did that. lets see how it goes over the next few days =D

I figured out what the FC was... it's the villianrom OTA update... first time i started the 5.4 up I had no idea what it was and denied it access... does anyone know where i can go in the settings to change it to "always allow"?
 
Look for the Superuser Permissions app in the menu, and delete the entry for villainupdater by long pressing it. So next time it will ask again.

Thanks for your reply! it asked again and gave me the option of "force close" or "wait" I clicked wait, but nothings popped up :confused:... super permissions/running services no longer shows it.


Is anyone unable to get into their application manager? Mine force closes when i try to enter, its not a big deal... I've just been uninstalling programs from the Market. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

There was an update to fix it, but I guess you missed it with your SU perms issues. So did you manage to get into the Villain updater now?
