Root think I am screwed, root went fine then POW

so I just did the titanium back up "Restore missing apps + all system data" and then once That was done I rebooted I found that..... everything seems to be back to usual :)

some widgets did not load so had to reload those. some minor settings appeared to have been lost, a few apps settings were lost - like Handcent but I went back into Titanium and told it to restore the data and that fixed Handcent (not sure why data did not go along for that app to begin with).

OMJ.. if I could thank you on every post in here to thank you, I would. but that might be obnoxious. so, I will thank you one for sure as you really saved my ass, but know you deserve more.

Vincentp... thanks so much for the late night early morning help.

thanks both for the time and sticking with me! I owe you

I want to sit back and breath a bit as the last 12 hours have been a real hell.

then I will worry about doing a 2.2 ROM and maybe a baseband. but for now, I just want to sit tight.

I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Gave a thanks to OMJ for taking care of all the difficult parts. :p

Enjoy your root.

Glad you got it all worked out. Gotta say I was a little worried for you when the RSD Lite issues were happening

I was worried also.. believe me

any reason why wifi will not grab an IP address? it was until like 10 minutes ago and now it will now. is this a related issue?

Probably a kernel issue. Some kernels have had WiFi problems. You may want to try a different one.

he is on a stock kernel though so that shouldnt be an issue. Not sure if nothing else I would give rebooting a shot

Congrats Lock-N-load !!!!

I am very happy all worked out well for you and I really enjoyed the excitement I felt as I read this thread. lol

IMHO if your phones radio works fine then you dont need to mess with basebands. I am running the stock baseband with the newest froyo and have no probs and great call quality.

This thread is a very good example of why this place and Droid-Life are about the only two places I go anymore on a regular basis. :D

yeah, stock

and it was working fine for the whole relaod process and then all of the sudden, now i cannot get an IP address

reboot did not work

for what its worth and if your interested ...

I loaded lithium thru rom manager last night with the watermark theme and stock kernel with no add ons and it went without a hitch. Runs perfect !!! smooth and fast and is also a good looking rom.
I do all my stuff thru rom manager premium ... its money well spent

I loved Lithium. Had it on my phone for a few days and did a review on it. One of the best ROMs I've ever used - until I switched to SS 4.6 that is. This stuff just keeps getting better.

lol ... yes it is very hard to keep up :p I want to try the FR22 but I think I will stay put at least thru the weekend.

I'd sit tight for now. I'm sure there will be a source built ROM with FRG22 proprietary files included in no time.

okay.. I just went into wifi and had it forget my connection, readded the connection and then readded the WAP PW and it worked.

maybe something in the reloading of all that data got glicthed. one of the settings that did not carry forward correct.. who knows

@Lock-N-Load
are ya having fun yet ? lol your life will never be the same now that you have swallowed the red pill

yep, I plan to sit tight. this was enough to drain my system. up until 2am, back up a 6am, working on it since 8 last night..

thank God I am self employed, just have to work late tonight BUT that is a small price to pay for getting my phone back up and running

someday you will think back and laugh at all this. This stuff really does become very easy and routine.

PREDICTION: I will read a thread similar to this one in the near future but, "Lock-N-Load" is the one providing the guidance.

until now, never spent any time in the Root area of the forum, where should I watch for this as I have 3 final root goals to complete once I calm down

1. a 2.2 ROM
2. over clock ability (I think I need a ROM and SetCPU?)

3. baseband switch as mine has been crap ever since we went to 2.1 - but since I think this is what screwed me before, I think, I am leery to try it again and maybe a 2.2 ROM will address that.

so, I would be looking for the best advice to look at to do those 2 final things I started this whole process for.

100% agreed.. always does. and once I master it, which I will in time, I will be the first person to help out and turn around the favor, help and info I was given.

I am kinda lazy and do all my roming from within rom manager for atleast 90% of the time. Rom's,Kernels and basebands are all there but, you need to research them first here in the roms section and other forums where the Dev's reside.

I am sorry you had all this trouble. I just now got online or I would have tried to helped you as well especially since I tried to help you with kernals. I'm not sure what caused your phoneto go haywire perhaps if you tried a 2.2 baseband while on 2.1. I would get a 2.2 rom and retry. However I once had your exact problem after trying a theme and somehow I lost my recovery and had to reroot. Congrats on the fix though.

what I "think" happened is that during the baseband update I opted to NOT wipe the data and cache.

the reason I think this is that through all of this above, with all that I did, I never did that step. When I finally gave in, knowing Titanium would get me back to where I was, I wiped and deleted the cache and data and viola... it booted.

not sure about your 2.2 over 2.1 baseband theory. But I have a real feeling what I said above is how it went down. I know you would have helped, you tried last night as well.

Usually baseband updates don't require a wipe of any kind though. Because it's not actually modifying the /system, /data or /cache partitions, it should have no effect on the ROM itself whether or not these are wiped. I think something else funny went wrong there, but I have no idea what.

it isn't nessecary to wipe data and cache for flashing basebands or kernals. i do wipe when i flash rom though.

BTW, can I delete update.zip?

any other files I can delete of the SD card as well related to this whole process?
