Root Three Step No PC Required Root,Recovery,Rom Guide [ZTE Awe Only]

Thought this might be useful for those looking for a reliable guide to doing everything right from the phone.

1. Download and install RommasterSu zip below and install it and gain root. It is in chinese and will install proper root using a superuser app they like to call "Kinguser". Dont worry about all the chinese you see..just click the few prompts you see by selecting the buttons that are blue and on right hand side of screen at the bottom..then you will see a little red root button next to a small cartoon character, pick it to gain root..once root is gained move to step two.

2. Download and prepare to install [Root] Rashr below by first downloading TWRP Recovery from here on the forums. Once you have the recovery downloaded and in the root of your sdcard, install this app. You will be first prompted with a disclaimer, select "I know the risk" option and then select the big "recovery" button, and then select "Other from storage"..now select recovery.img [this is your recovery image,be sure to extract it from any zip it may be in,Rashr will need the base recovery img file]from your sdcard and allow the app to flash it,once the app flashes the recovery img it will offer the option to boot in to recovery.. Go ahead and reboot in to recovery and move on to step 3.

3. Once in recovery backup your current rom. Once that is done perform a wipe of cache,dalvik-cache,data,internal storage and system, and finally install rom of your choice and reboot. (Already have one downloaded and ready to try out..) I would suggest something like L Awe rom as something to begin with and you wont be disappointed. It is a well made custom stock rom.

edit: the zips proivided need to be extracted...use an app like root explorer.

also i made this guide after several failed attempts at using the pc methods on xp,vista and windows 7 devices..there was always some conflict between the phones drivers and pdanet on vista and windows 7 and xp refused to sideload anything on my pc and caused the pc to reboot when attempting to sideload...usb conflict...so if you do encounter any issues on your windows devices..this might be just what you are looking for.

I have rooted two devices and installed recovery and roms on both using this method. Works fine. But as with anything if you feel uncomfortable trying it out then there is the PC method which does work but may or may not have issues depending on type of PC used,OS installed and a whole host of other probable issues. All I can do is give my word that it works. I would not have posted the guide otherwise. I have contributed to many devices here on androidforums and on XDA. I dont post things I have not tried out my self and am not comfortable that anyone could use.

I can't confirm for you this will work on your samsung galaxy device. This is the ZTE Awe forum. I only confirm it works for THIS device. Always be careful of trying methods for other devices not meant for your device. I suggest you not try the recovery portion of this guide. As for the rooting portion,at worse it most likely just wont root your device.

Yeah this is fairly straight forward. I was rooted, had recovery and installed fresh rom within 5 minutes or so.

We definitely needed a no pc root guide and I'm happy to see one up, however, I found this kind of confusing myself due to the wording of it, and I'm more than familiar with the root process for this phone. I'm concerned new users, especially those not familiar with rooting or development will have trouble with this. As a suggestion, I think it would benefit new users greatly, to have the steps outlined in a more clear and precise manner. Also, CWM for this phone has become deprecated and is thus, not recommended. (it works when it feels like it) For most users CWM would have no use, and will cause problems flashing roms. All the cyanogen based roms can't be flash with CWM. TWRP should be used unless you have a specific reason for needing to use CWM.

Not to sound like the bad guy but rooting and flashing from apps within phone has a higher risk of complications (though still slight) also all the pc issues u listed are usually caused by installing multiple/incorrect adb drivers (multiple phones attached to pc) i am still a firm believer of fastboot (temporary booting of kernel/recovery) to perform any advanced operations to the device

I agree with the past 2 posts. I am working on updating cooldudezach's [Guide][Drivers][Root][Kernel][Recovery] How to install for the ZTE Awe. It is a very long guide to update. I have no ideal how this guide got sticked as has been said already it is not complete and is hard to follow. Also cwm should no longer ever be used on are phone at this point. I am also including a special section for kitkat based rom's and hopefully higher ones like "L". These roms don't like super user too much and supersu is the way to go. I will go through all the steps myself to verify they work. I will just be linking to files that are already in other threads but will make sure the links work. Any suggestions are welcomed. I need to dig through the threads to find the best way to install the adb and fastboot drivers. I know linux a little and am not familiar with mac's. So Please let me know when the guide is up if there are things that need correcting. Will probably be a couple of days. Take care.

I got it stickied. There's nothing confusing about it although I will edit out CWM as a choice for recovery and clean up step 2 (and 3) for more clarification..it definitely is no more confusing than the long winded guide offered up for pc method lol.

Yeah isn't new method. I found it through google and reading here where users had made mention of using app based rooting, etc.

May want to mention that twrp also needs to be unzipped to get the recovery.img. I am still working on my guide as i had some pc issues but will include a link to this as well as a faster method. Though I think what brittnearl has done with his 2 roms having a guide for coming from stock is probably what most people should use when trying to get root, recovery and rom from stock. I see that the new twrp may have some issues or it could be the roms that need to have an updated script. I will find out more later. thanks for this guide.

If I use the sd card I already have with all my stuff on it, is it going to clear my sd card and contents to put this program on it, then reprogram the phone? I don't want to lose all the stuff I have on my sd card!
