Root throwing in the towel

Let's keep our shirts on, ok?

I helped write our Evo 4G LTE s-off guide for dummies. I did the Ubuntu part in fact. People who never used Ubuntu before or since found my guide simple and effective, and got the job done where Windows had failed them.

The "xxx for Dummies" is a popular book series because it's effective.

With every new s-off, we all start out as dummies. That's a stone-cold fact.

In a forum, you can't see the other guy's tone of face. See what I did there?

Anybody acting high and mighty here will answer to the mods, and we ain't playing.

Anyone who misunderstood a comment, however, Hey - sorry, it happens, please remember we're all here to help.

Let's call it case closed and get back on track.

Cheers, thanks! :)

I think he was calling himself a dum dum?

Anyway, I don't know how to make it any simpler than the steps and screenshots I provided.

Make your screen look exactly like the screenshots and it will work. Getting the timing right on the wire trick... that's another matter lol.

Best of luck.
The guide I have is simpler than your screenshots, IMO...

Ok control bear started but I get the following..... Sh: 1: .tmp/fastboot: not found and the dame message but for adb. Guess I thought they were in the control bear folder. Do I need to move them?

Type ls and it will give you a list of all the files in the folder.

But yes, everything should be in that folder.

The reason my easylinux scripts are not working for you is because you're not running the version of Linux that the script was written for. Those scripts rely on specific path points (locations) on the computer that are only created in the Linux version (Linux Mint Debian Edition) that I have linked in the guide.

I still have no idea where you were lost in my guide, but I'm willing to help you if you'll tell me where you're stuck.

I will have to download that version then I guess. Is it available as a torrent download?

Yes, I'm officially done trying to S-Off and explore the phone any more. No matter how much help I receive ControlBear just will not run. I even tried the new installer exe that was recently posted and I get an error saying that the driver can't be installed because the device can't start. And yes, I know of the Linux way but my data connection is so spotty that it will take forever to download and no wi-fi in sight. I sincerely appreciate all the help that was offered. I believe the problem may lie with my computer but I'm not sure of anything anymore and refuse to keep getting a headache trying (I had brain surgery less then a year ago and concentrating for too long does it). I will either enjoy the phone with what ROMs I can run S-On or revert to an older phone where running JB isn't such a trial. Of course, if anyone wants to send me the Linux LiveDVD I will be more then happy to try (HaHa). Thanks for those who have helped. You know who you are

Sorry to hear that we couldn't get you to where you wanted to be Colossus... :(

You gave it hell though, that's for sure. Can't say you didn't give it your best.
If you ever want to try again, you know where to find us :)

Thanks to a very generous offer from g60madman I may yet achieve my goal!! Many thanks to him and all in the community who have followed my efforts

I thought you already tried the LiveCD route, you just had trouble navigating the OS and locating the files within it. I am now confused.

Many places have free wifi. You could go hang out at McDonalds or something and grab the 32bit.

Or drive to an area with better reception and dload it?

I suffered through downloading the 64 bit version only to be told I needed the 32 bit. I am unable to drive due to my brain condition so I can't go to a place of better reception or I would go that route

Sorry to hear that.

If you do get s-off and start trying out new roms, how are you going to dload them with no internet access?

Not trying to dissuade you, but most roms run into the hundreds of megabytes.

I know lol......still working on that, but I'll worry about it if S-Off ever happens lol. Need to figure it out though because I'm a flashaholic lol

If you can tolerate a 75mB dload, we can make your 64bit dvd work.

Open terminal, sudo apt-get update.

Then sudo apt-get install ia32-libs.

Then run my screenshots.

Like I said though, it's a 75mB package. But it will install the 64 to 32 bit emulation libs needed to run the controlbear program on your 64bit disc.

I can give it a shot. to download i tether my computer to the evo so if my 3g cuts out, my download stops and then cancels, but I can give it a go

Lol, every time you give up you keep trying! :D

Glad to see you still going at it. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to have this hard of a time with s-off! I admire your persistence! Very impressive :)

For all of you that have followed this thread, s-off has finally been archived . The problem was with my computer. Linux wouldn't install alongside Windows and run correctly. Ended up installing only Linux and it worked for me. I will re-install Windows at a later date. Thanks for all the support and encouragement

I sware no one takes a joke anymore. That's why they made the xda developers NOOB YouTube video. I didn't mean to offend anyone I was just saying lol. I was a "dum dum" at some point as well. If I was being an a**hole you would know tho and I really wasn't. So THANK YOU GUYS FOR BLOWING UP ON ME when you can't take a joke. Are we grown men or do we still get offended when someone says were stupid? I wasn't directly saying it to him either and didn't you see the obvious :P face? JOKEY JOKE JOKE. Lol lighten up everyone. I mean feel free to delete the posts Mods. If they do get reported and deleted I won't post in this thread anymore. But if others are gonna blow up on me over one small thing, I deserve the right to express my feelings towards that. Where's my lawyer!!! :D

Not to mention sorry for the late reply. I opened this thread and it directed me to the last page back so I didn't see the newer posts.

Congrats on S-Off! :D You've joined the big leads and now have a better understanding of your phone I presume? :) I'm sorry if I offended you though that wasn't my intention. :(

Anyways cheers, have fun trying CM, PAC, AOKP, MIUI, and PA now! :D
