Thunderbolt One Year Contract

Lets say you buy the TB on a 2 year contract for $250. In one year you decide you need the latest phone, and sell the TB on Ebay for $200. You then buy a new phone off contract for $700. Total cost is $750. Now if you buy on a one year contract, you pay $320 now, and sell it in one year for $200. You then buy with a new contract for $300. Total cost is $420. The $330 you saved is worth gambling on LTE price increases, which may not be that bad. You can use the money you saved to buy data if necessary. If they price it too high, the average consumer will not be able to afford it, and they can't make money.

VZW confirmed 1-year contract at $319.99 per twitter

NICE! Aside from the superior network, the 1 year (10 months) contract option is what I absolutely LOVE about VZW.

As others have pointed out, even if I sold my TBolt 10 months from now for $250 (they'll go for more on the Bay, trust me), it's like I'm getting my TBolt for only $70 (+taxes), and I'm free to move into the next new cutting edge phone in mid January 2011 :)

Ideally thats what I want to do also- just hoping pricing doesnt change with 4g etc-- im going to try to make it happen!

I'm eligible for an early upgrade. My current contract isnt over until Sept 2011 but I can get promotional pricing right now. I'm assuming it's my last earlier upgrade but I'm hoping I'm grandfathered for future ones.

Same date as my contract, and I'm getting an early upgrade as well. You should see at least a $30 credit, possibly a $50 credit towards the TB.

So it seems like a lot of people are going for the one-yr contract?

I'm still on the edge. If I had a 2 yr contract with verizon and I never "re-sign", but I still have service with them, is that considered off contract? If not then I think that would be that way to go if people are worried about tiered data. It seems like no matter what plan you start with you're going to have to buy your new phone for full retail anyways.

...unless I'm completely misunderstanding something.

1 year contract sounds great, but do you really need a new phone every year? Do you not think TBolt will be good for 20 months?

If you're a tech/hardware junkie, probably not. Have you seen Qualcomm and Nvidia's hardware road maps for the next few years ? Holy cow!

EDIT: Most of the power will be needed for high end mobile gaming (we'll see what else they come up with to make use of all the power). Dual core ? There will be Quad core phones with PS3 like graphics to the market right around 2 years from now.

1 year for $319.99 definitely. We will be eligible January 17, 2012

It just seems like it might be worth the extra 60 bucks or so--- im really leaning towards it. seems like a good plan. there are going to be great phones coming out constantly

Not to mention in 10 months the TB will still have decent resale value. At 20 months that value will be far less and that money will go towards an upgrade if something amazing shows up at CES 2012. 20 months and you're stuck for a while and in 20 months the TB will still be good but it will be outdated.

I'm sorta in this phone cycle right now. I bought the Incredible, used my 1 year upgrade. Sold it to get the X. Sold that to get the iPhone 4 from craigslist. So now I'm ready for my one year upgrade again. I could sell the iPhone for $450, get the TB off contract and still pay less that I would if buying on a 1 year.

1 year good. 2 year not.

My problem is I need 2 new phones. One for me and my fiance. That means dropping $640 now in hopes i sell it later. $640 to verizon hurts.

Or go with 2yr and get two TBolts for $450.

how did you accomplish that i wonder...i've asked 2 different csr's and been shot down. they both said they were told not to give anyone an early upgrade on this phone. my annual upgrade would have been right around mid april as well.

They lied. I got an early upgrade for this phone and I am not due until september.

how hard/easy is it to sell one of these phones a year later for $300+???

Everyone makes it sound like its so easy and sold within minutes. is this true?

I'm not sure about the $300 pricetag but I think in 10 months if you take good care of your TB it will easily fetch $200+. The key is to just make sure you baby your phone (case & screen protector).

Incredibles in great condition were getting $250 last time I checked

so in 10 months you get the bulk of the contract price back (hopefully easy as you are saying) and put that towards a new 1/2 yr contract?

i will go with a one year deal. this way i can upgrade in ten months and get two more phones before the world ends in 2012! :p
