Root Time to give up on GB Rom's for Evo

None of them (MIUI, CM7, deck's) have everything working, and some of the issues are quite major - unreliable gps, slow wimax, notification bar, no 720p, ffc etc.

The main problem is the proprietary gps driver on the Evo which is closed source, so until HTc releases official 2.3, I don't think much can be done (unless someone reverse engineers it).

I've tried the Sense gps fix and its not 100% reliable. GB on the Evo still seems very much a work in progress. I would love to be proven wrong but I'm a little tired of constantly flashing nightlies hoping for a fix.

good luck with that.... guess that's why they're nighties... nothing solid... I M O, sense is the way to go, kings, koni's, .... that is all i have run since root and haven't found anything to compare... a glitch here or there but for the most part SOLID... once again, I M O.....

Essentially, the CM7 is still a work in progress. Cyanogen himself said last night that there is still work to be done with the GPS. So........in due time, the rom will be without bugs and glitches;)

That's what I find fun about flashing the nightlies, hopefully a fix will be found:D

If I could get a sense rom that wouldn't kill my phone in under 4 hours, then maybe...
But thanks anyway!
under 4 hours, "DUUUUDE".... i've been running my setup for 2 weeks now and get 12 hours easily... sh#t, i hit 12 hours and have 45-40 battery......
or maybe these peeps are tryin to run the EVO like a pc.... that ain't happenin... not just quite yet... it's a phone.... 8-)

Yeah...sorry but if your phone dies in 4 hours ....you are doing something wrong.

Kings gb build is still the most complete and operational but you are right...all of them require a not of work ....it comes with the territory. Anyone thrown off by that should stick with sense roms.

Personally I find more pros than cons with the aosp roms. High quality recordings win on gb vs shotty 720 on sense anyway. I have had spotty gps but other than that no issues with kings

Savaged zen is a close runner up. It's a bit laggy

guess i'm kind of "ANTI - TECHI" if you get my meaning... there's alot of jargon out there that for some, including me, find confusing at times.... tell me what works for you, your "set up"... after that, it's all hit and miss and hit and hit and miss and hit... A + B =...... good start for a newbie???

I don't mind all the flashing/updating, that's part of the reason for rooting, to try out new things. It's a risk/reward thing - its a bit of a gamble depending on your hw, and I don't see any speed difference in GB vs the better Froyo rom's, so its hard to justify.

I suppose my tolerance for non-functioning stuff has reduced :)

Not doing anything 'wrong'. Stock rom unrooted ran less then 4 hours with moderate use. Traded that Evo in for a new one before my 30 days were up, new one did the same thing. Tried many different sense roms and many different kernals. All were about the same. So far only Destroyer v2 with SavagedZen works, and it works very well, still have between 50 and 70% battery remaining after a long day (12+ hours) with moderate use, with no extra power saving things setup or installed (I've never used any).

I like sense, its a shame it doesn't like me or my phone. But I've learned to live with my rom, and am quite happy with its performance.

you're quite right... it will always be hit or miss... do or don't.... yes or no... until you find the right combo for yourself... i can tell you A is better than B which is slightly better that C... but until you try them all, and i mean ALL, yourself, there is no right or wrong answer...

Unrooted my phone lasts 16 hrs. Something is definitely wrong there.

Gb roms aren't always the way to go. I have three Rom nandroids that I bounce to and from. Kings gb savaged gb and plutonium sense. I wish I could take note and pieces from each and combine them but I can't right now.

I may check out virus' newest mytouch port

Destroyer was good when it worked, WHEN being the key word for me. For me , Kings GB is the most stable AOSP on my phone. I bounce between that and Kings R2 and R3, and Koni's. Depends if I'm feeling anxious, if ya know what I mean. :)

I love AOSP roms. The customization is second to none. I'm sure ill try a Sense rom again sometime but I'm good with AOSP for now.

I kind of do agree with giving up on gb 4 evo. However I did not have all the problems your having but I did have some bad ones and was not able to find fixes for them .... I'm sure their out there. I just did not get to dedicated. I love the new gingerbread 2.3 love it. But I'm going to wait a little while until there's 2.3 cents version . Besides kings ultra r3 is bad to the bone. With everything working... but I say again I did love the gingerbread. I just kept getting crashes all over the place in blank screens ... and never did get the voicemail working properly.

Love r3....but not the theme. May try and strip it out . Plutonium is workin ok...locked up on me a couple of times today tho.

I'm still debating on a GB AOSP ROM to try out. I've never tried an AOSP ROM before, and i've been away from the forums for a couple months so i'm not sure what all i need to change/do other than simply flashing it (1.90 PRI still current enough?, GPS has issues on all AOSP ROMS? Vmail probs?).

Since i first rooted, i flashed Myn's Warm 2.2, i think it was RLS 2. I followed his chain up to RLS5, and that's worked best for me. I flashed Koni's Elite once when bored at work, and kept it almost a month but couldn't deal with the lags/freezes every so often, MMS never worked without a reboot or 2 before sending/recieving, 4G was always enabled after a reboot, etc. It may've seemed a little snappier at times, but i need stability/function over a .2 sec faster response time. I believe Koni's Elite was built off of King's framework or something wasn't it? And since Koni's didn't work well on my phone, i'm hesistant to try anything Koni's/King's related though i think King's is getting the best reviews for AOSP ROMs.
