Time to root my Hero

OK I'm moving that to my SD card now, then I want to reboot in recovery and follow the instructions you gave earlier. How do I recover my apps from Titanium backup after?

All the backups will be at the bottom of the list with a line through them. Simply tap each one and select the restore option.

When you go in titanium backup and tap the middle tab (backup/restore) up top it opens the apps list

You will have to redownload titanium backup but yes the backups are stored on the SD card and nothing on the SD card will be touched while flashing.

So in the recovery mode I want to use the backup feature here? This is nandroid backup or is that something else?

Yes that is where you it back up and restore and then hit back up, it will create a backup

Also you can create a zip of your Titanium back though the app itself and you can simply flash that the same way you flash a Rom , once you flash it you will not have to download the app from the market and it will have all your backed up apps already, all you will have to do is restore them

No if you have a SD card in it, you should be able to view it even if it was full

So while I'm going thru that I got 'no sdcard' does that mean the card is full?

You sure you didn't format the SD card by mistake ?? also if it works on your PC, while you are there make a copy of your SD card and store it on your PC for safe keeping

Everything seems to be working great...currently restoring apps. Any suggestions on apps that I should run now that I am rooted

Glad you got it figured out, if you want a weather clock like sense, try Fancy Widgets from the market it is free and very similar, Cache Cleaner NG is a great cache cleaner, Calender Pad is a good little calender app, Shoot Me a nice little app to take screen shots of you phone, Swiftkey a nice keyboard app, Launcher Pro which is my Fav a nice launcher which has many options and like it much better than the stock launcher.

Thanks Don, now for some post rooting questions, some specific to the GB rom I put on. All I have done is flashed the GB ROM, and the google apps zip, then restored/added apps from the market and app store.

First Im not that interested in most of the sprint bloatware, but I know that when I flashed the new rom none of it went back on. Someone earlier was talking about flashing some of the sprint specific stuff back to the phone so that it doesn't have an identy crisis. I think someone was refering to the PRIs and such,is that something I need to/should be doing? Where would I find that. Is there anything else I should/need to put on other than the software you mentioned in the previous post?

GB ROM specific questions include, while on the phone when I hang up, the screen doesn't come back on sometimes the lock screen shows up. When the phone unlocks it vibrates? Can I turn that off or is the GB thing? It also seems that when in airplane mode it is still trying to figure out where I am(location icon in the notification bar)

I'm sure there are other things that will come up (or have and I can't think of)

GB has no Sprint bloatware at all, it is vanilla, no need to install any of them unless you want them, there are many options in the settings/Cyanogenmod settings, so check that out, like lockscreen, time out screen, you will have to play with it and set it up as you like, trial and error, as for the vibrate, I believe that can be turned off also in the same settings area.

My phone wont let me boot into recovery mode after I put the gapps & aospGBMod . It comes up with the phone and red triangle...

You didn't flash a recovery image. Boot up normal and download rom manager. The first option in that app is to flash clockwork mod recovery do that and report back.

Ok got to all of that now stuck on how to flash...Did all the instructions on clear all the data ect... Now I just need to flash. How do I go about doing that?

Ok you wiped cache and data, then go into Advanced and wipe Dalvik cache, and finally go into Mounts and Storage and format boot, cache, data, and system. Now got to apply zip from SD card. If you downloaded the files on the phone then they are probably in your downloads folder scroll down to it and click it. O
