Root [TIP]Guaranteed drastic battery improvement

Would you have to download smartassV2? by the way i didn't install any custom roms but i was wondering how did you get the governor??

Why would you stream a 30 minute video anyway unless it's a live event? Any movie or show or music clip, would play much smoother if downloaded first. Then you could watch it on the train or wherever without the buffering.

I just downloaded 3 full length motion pictures (600 mb) in less than 15 minutes.

Sports events and YouTube videos that can't be downloaded.

15 minutes of downloading is enough to heavily burden the stock battery.

Bottomline, no matter what you do, the only way anyone is getting a whole day out of the stock battery is if they're leaving it on standby 90% of the time.

I use my phone moderately to heavy. I've stated several times that my phone makes it all day. I don't know why you keep saying its impossible, when I've been doing it for 2 months lol. I suppose you will try to call me a liar now, I believe you were naysaying someone else on this topic. I don't care tho. I'm cynical today anyhow.

W is just exaggerating a bit. We are all a little frustrated about the battery life. Any tip anybody has, concerning battery life, should be welcome news. Even if it doesn't help everyone.

I bookmarked this thread back in may, waiting til I rooted my phone to give this a try. I finally rooted my phone, but still haven't done anything yet. I'm taking baby steps, since this is my first time rooting. And I know there's not much that's going to help me prolong my battery life,... not the way I use this machine,..... but any little bit helps. And this tip, is an obviously sound idea. Would be silly not to apply it. Just, haven't gotten around to it yet. I haven't even debloated yet. Taking baby steps with my baby.

Anyway thanks ChiweN for this tip. I'll be sure to apply this strategy when the time comes.

I've done it too, I just barely ever used it to do anything.

I've questioned people who say they get a whole day out of the stock battery on exactly what they use the phone for and for how long. It comes out to not much.

How many hours do you stream video or audio? How often do you download files? How much time do you spend playing games. How much time do you spend talking on the phone?

Saying you use it moderately to heavy is extraordinary vague as Your idea of moderate to heavy is gonna be different from the next person and so on.

The question isn't whether or not it's possible to make the stock battery last all day because I've done it myself before they finally came out with batteries that actually allowed you to use the phone the way it was designed to be used. The question is what can you do, or not do, with your phone for it to last that long?

Let's face it,... if your online for 2+ hours during the day, among other things,...you better be near a wall outlet. There is no doubt about it. You will not make it through the day. You need to be plugged in to do anything on the internet or your battery's line chart will look like Niagara falls. Maybe underclocking while awake might make the drop less steep, but drop it will.

Point is,... there's not much help for us heavy users. I carry a spare battery. It's not too inconvenient. Hey, we have a monster of a machine. Hell, I'm saving money on my electric bill cause I'm not on my 600 watt desktop plus crt monitor. You'd be surprised how much power a computer uses.

Wanna laugh.... lately, I have been touching my crt monitor, thinking it's touch screen. Duh!

Man this TIP has screwed TWO of my LG Connect phones!
What happens is that the touchscreen stops working, I don't know what makes it stop working, don't know if it's the Rom Toolbox Profiles or the Juice Defender but after using this tip for about 3 days all of a sudden I can't unlock the screen or select any buttons or anything, it's like the touchscreen locks up and I think it has something to do with the profiles in Rom Toolbox causing it to happen that is the only thing that even mentions something about the screen ("Screen off and Screen on")... this is what happened to my first LG Connect, I had it for almost a year and then I tried this tip and after 3 days the touchscreen locks up I was lucky that I even got it replaced. It went out on April 30th and I was lucky enough to get a brand new, so when I got home and got it set up I did this tip again and in 3 days the touchscreen was locked up AGAIN! So that tells me that this TIP is dangerous. It's too bad cause it was really helping my battery last a long time but now I am too scared to even try this tip again.

So just watch out if you try this.

If you know of another battery TIP please let me know or maybe some other apps that will do the same thing as these, I might try them....

The only thing that I did different from this "So here's the easy steps I took. It will take you 5 min or less. First off, use juice defender. I know a lot of you are already, and its necessary for this to work but its not enough on its own. First step -juice defender set to balanced. Next in rom toolbox set up 2 profiles under CPU control. Profile 1 - Max and min set to 384 MHz/ governor of choice /SCREEN OFF in the stop down box. Profile 2 - max: whatever speed you want your device to run @ while in use(I use max 1.5ghz and min 384mhz)/ gov of choice/ SCREEN ON." is that I set Profile 1 to 192 mhz and used the governor called powersaver and on profile 2 I used 1188 ghz and the governor was ondemand. Do you think setting it to 192 or using the govs made the touchscreen lockup? I think not knowing which gov to use is a problem cause I have no idea what they do. Oh yea I am on a Rooted Stock ROM LG Connect using the vv3 baseband FYI.

I don't think that this would brick your phone. It's only setting clock speeds. I use the ondemand governor, but iT's really a matter of which one you like to use. If it's an option for you to use it, it won't brick you. Also, I found juice defender to be a waste of time. It did little to save battery life, but it would shut off my data & then not turn it back on when needed.

The phone was not bricked it just would not let me use the touchscreen, I tried this tip on 2 different phones and both times the exact same thing happened so I am 90% sure it had something to do with this tip. Anyway I will not be using JD ever again and will not be using RTP to set up profiles.

Zandersig the best thing you can do is just buy an extended battery. I bought a QCell 3850 mAh battery, it works a HELL of a lot better than the OEM. (6+ hours more, with moderate use)... The Connect, by nature is a battery sucking sh?tbox that cannot be tamed with any PlayStore apps. Trust me. Buy an extended battery, the QCells are cheap.

Oh, using VV4 yielded the most battery life out all of the available GB firmware. No root, which sucked but I was even impressed with OEM battery performance. No joke.

Doesn't that Battery make the phone thicker and don't you have to get a new back? Can you hook me up with a link to one on the web? I don't see how the Sg3 can last very long is it is thin as paper and really almost too big for a phone. LOL.

I'm getting about 14-18 hours now after flashing VV3 rooted, then flashing Playful God's CM10, then restoring a CWM backup. No extra apps. I can't explain it, but my battery life is ridiculous now where before I only got 14 tops. I also let it drain 100% and then charge to 100% without unplugging. I have a cheap 1900mAh extended battery. I also disabled all facebook notifications and use the regular keyboard not swype (it kills battery + uses GPS for unknown reasons).

The strange thing is VV3 rooted by itself did not give me this much battery life. Also, apps like juice defender use cpu cycles to work, so it's not entirely free. So far what I did works much better than anyone else. I've only reached battery levels this long with the app I made on the Lg Esteem. Honestly didn't think this phone could do it, but i've proved myself wrong.
