Root (TIP)hroark`s cm7 gps 'fix' - Tracker Booster-update

Lordvincent 90

I am constantly traveling for work and use my prevail as my sole means of navigation. The super long initial lock on was a pain until i found this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kaukovuo.android.trackerbooster

I tested this on 3 prevails all with the same result .First lock on at about 1 min (before. It took. 5-8 min)

Just turn on before opening a GPS related. App
YMMV

Thanks to ingo for this :
try putting this in /system/etc

pretty sure i used this with success on cm7. worth a shot, right?

make sure you remove the .txt from the file name before you put it on the phone. supposed to be /system/etc/gps.conf

you can open it in notepad to see the changes it makes.

UPDATE: I did some more playing around with monsters suggestion of fatter fix. And I discovered that if I allow maps to find my coarse (network based) location and THEN apply the fatter fix 'north America' setting I get INSTANTANEOUS GPS lock (turn by turn starts even before I can return to the maps screen) thank you monster and I am eager to see if this works on other prevails.

testing it now, i was previously using FasterFix

Edit: I received faster results using the us.pool.ntp.org server on FasterFix. You should test that out for me as well and see if you are receiving about the same results or better with one or the other.

I find that with network based location enabled faster fix seems to connect slightly faster (35-45 sec) however, with nbl off, tracker booster still seems to have the advantage.

cool. ive just been using nbl because of all the issues weve had with cm7 gps since day 1. Been *working* great that way.

Yea, i just don't much like the 'Google is watching you ' warning. Lol

Plus i get crap battery life as it is (mostly due to heavy use) so the less stuff running the better

I use "GPS aids" which works fabulously. I don't know how it compares to these mentioned methods, but it works so well I have no reason to try anything else. I also like that once the "helper data" is loaded, the app doesn't need to be ran again until you want to run it. The non-donation version has a 6 second splash screen, but it's not so bad because you don't have to use it very often and the changes persist through reboots.

If I get a chance, maybe I can do a comparison between the different "helper" apps and see which works best.

As a final note, I'm not sure which device profile is best to use, but I've been using "other" with good success. The device profiles listed are galaxy/nexus etc so it may be even better with a different profile selected, but honestly don't know what impact the profiles have.

Just tested tracker booster.. i installed and ran it and it never did lock after like 10 min. so, I tried fasterfix first as monster suggested, then ran trackerbooster in the background and started telenav and it took about 1 min. to lock the first time. I've been using it for a day now and it locks like the stock ROM again.. usualy about 20-30 sec.

I'm glad you guys(and girls) found something that works. I was just living without GPS for like two months cuz I'm so not getting rid of CM7.. dispite its little quirks, I freaking LOVE this ROM.

Thanks to you all for the research! i'll post back with some more results in a few days

it seems my gps is no longer working so great with gps aids so... i'll be trying the other methods here. i'll let you guys know what i find out

with tracker booster, should i just start booster then open my nav app or should i give it a moment to lock on to my signal?

please help since i have to travel a bit far, somewhere that i havent been before, very soon.

what would be the best app to use, im still getting bad results with gps fix and tracker booster

mavrik, so your using a combination of fasterfix and trackerbooster.

huh, guess i have to try that

are you using telenav, google map+nav, or some other nav app

If it is not broken... fix it until it is.... lol

I was looking at this file earlier but i was too afraid to touch it (broke my build.prop twice this week)

Testing now

Tried it and now i cant turn gps off in the settings... May just be my phone tho.. I have had problems with settings not sticking before...

How do you use nbl?

menu > settings > locations and security > check 'use wireless networks'

So i have been using this. I just found something that worked for me.

First i used this:
try putting this in /system/etc

pretty sure i used this with success on cm7. worth a shot, right?

And then i rebooted my phone to make sure i using those settings.

The i started tracker booster > start boosting then hid in background.

Finally started my nav app and instantly found my exact location.

Thank you Lordvincent 90 and inigomontoyasr. In the morning i have to go on a trip and now i can FINALLY go to sleep knowing ill be fine when i got to use my phone as a gps tomorrow

It would seem ingo's configure file (at bare min.) Has a similar effect to faster fix. Only it makes these changes permanent instead of temporary. Thank you ingo, and correct me if I am incorrect

yeah, i don't remember where i found that or the tips to make it but i've been using it on every rom i flash and it always locks on for me in under 20 secs.

i don't use anything else and it seems to give me very precise tracking and it will work no matter what app i use for navigation.

Yep, combination.. trackerbooster hit start booster then run in background
open fasterfix and set.
then open nav or maps and it is already locked.

I use televav and gmaps. Love telenav. it works better than some of the high dollar paid navs.

I'm gonna try ingo's file and see how it works.. I don't really like to run all those apps just to navigate. I'll post back results

I used inigo's file with no problems. Works better in my opinion than faster fix. Im using tracker booster and inigo's file.

I noticing that tracker booster helps out more with the more it tracks you. Try using tracker booster with your daily driving routine if you have a car charger to see if its true. Im going to test that out

Yes u must be rooted AND use a file explorer with root access (root explorer, Es file explorer) make sure to change system to r/w not r/o
