Root titanium back up "not rooted"?

shantytownbrown

Android Enthusiast
I followed the instructions on the TB wiki page and i get "80" when i type:

busybox ls -l /data/data/ | busybox wc -l

to test the busybox

but i get "permission denied" wheni type:

cd /data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/files/ ; ./busybox ls -l /data/data/ | ./busybox wc -l

to test TB's busybox, says "can't open /data/data/"

does this mean i screwed up something in the root process?
the wiki page says i am not properly rooted.

please help, thanks, would like to make a backup asap.

(will be able to read posts, but may not be able to respond until the end of the day)

thanks again

I have to admit i'm just a little bit confused! Are you having problems going into titanium backup and doing a batch backup? I am not sure what these commands are your typing and the point of them. Does the program come up at all?

Ok if you have S-off on your hboot then you are rooted. Did you flash the superuser file? Did you download Titanium Backup Free and then the Paid key? (Wiki's are good ways to aquire information however they can be written by anyone including the insane.)

Please give us a breakdown of your actual problem so we can help.

bear with me, remember i am a noob, i am just following instructions (blindly, unfortunately)

i d/l'd TB (free)...

openend and it asked me to give it permission or something like that, then said i wasnt rooted..."please see our wiki"

so i went to their wiki:

Root & rooting your phones

see section on "how to see if your phone is properly rooted"

it had me d/l a program called connectbot so i could enter command lines...

so i did as it said, results as above...

is that usefull??

thanks

Did you root your phone with revolutionary?

Power down your phone and pull the battery, put the battery back in. Hold the volume down button, then press and hold the power button simultaneously until the white screen with Andy riding a skateboard appears. This is your bootloader, or hboot. Post back and type exactly what you see on this screen.
Once wh have the hboot info we can move on from there. :)

Ok first yes your phone is rooted.

Second - Not saying the wiki isnt reliable just that really you should have come here and asked first. We could help you get the original issue resolved.

Ok titanium free is not going to give you the features of the pro key. Like restores can't be done in batch mode. Not sure if will actually let you do a lot of the things like freeze apps either. I haven't run just the free in a long time.

glad to hear i rooted correctly! thanks for verifiing

i opened the free app, and it says something to the effect: you are not rooted, app cant be used, please see wiki for help to see if you are rooted.

i couldnt get past the opening screen so i never was able to try to do anything with it....

not sure i want to invest the $6+ unless i know it is going to work...

any more thoughts

ohh wait!!! as i was typing, i re-opend app again, and it is working fine!!!

granted permissions and everything via SU!!!

thanks for listening anyway!!

just so you know sometimes some apps may get denied by the su app. so when you try to run tb or other apps it will say say that you are not rooted ot that you have been denied access. go into the su app and then you should see a list of apps that have been denied. all you have to do is click on the app and select allow. now your apps should be ok.

tb have been known to do this from time to time. but i would really get the pro key version for this app. it is very handy especially if you are a flashaholic like me :D
