Root [TOOL] Warp2 CWM & Root Flasher

Disclaimer: The responsibility for using this tool falls only on you ;)

This is an alternate method for installing CWM Recovery and rooting the ZTE Warp Sequent. It is a Live CD based on SliTaz Linux. It features adb and fastboot setup and working so there are no Windows drivers to mess with. It comes with and installs the standard CWM Recovery, Stock Recovery, and has the ability to root your device. It is a 32-bit OS so it will work on all PC's including Mac.

How to use:
  1. Download the Warp2 CWM & Root Flasher image (51MB) to your computer.
  2. Burn the ISO to a CD using your favorite cd burning software.
  3. Boot your computer to the cd drive (you may need to adjust boot settings in BIOS)
  4. Once booted to the desktop, double-click the Warp2 CWM & Root Flasher icon
  5. Click OK on root request popup
  6. Follow onscreen instructions.
  7. Enjoy ;)
Changelogs are located in post #2 of this thread below.

Note: This does not install anything or change anything about your pc. It runs exclusively off the CD and will not harm your computer.

Note2: The ISO can be used to make a bootable usb flash drive using a tool such as UNetbootin. Your pc must have the ability to boot to usb devices (mac pc's do not). Here is a link that explains how to do it. If you are using windows, step 1 and 3 apply to you ;)

Note3: While this is booting, you will see a lot of text moving very quickly. This is normal. You will get to a GUI with mouse very shortly :)

Note4: If the script hangs or fails in any way, do the following:
  1. Close the script.
  2. You will probably need to unplug and do a battery pull.
  3. Boot back into Android.
  4. Plug phone into a different usb port (sounds silly I know).
  5. Run the script again.
  6. If none of your usb ports work, you will need to try it on a different computer.
I think fastboot only works on usb 2.0 ports, so if you know which ones those are on your computer you may want to start with them.

Nice now maybe we wont hear so many people asking how to get fastboot to work. On the other hand we will prob get people asking how to use a live linux distro :D

If people can't burn a cd and boot to it I am not sure what to say lol. There is nothing else to it ;)

i dont get it why fastboot dont work for people i have never had any problem with the tool
Who knows, but now they have a simple alternative ;)

Just uploaded a new one... no reason to update if you already grabbed the first one. I just removed more packages to make the ISO download smaller.

Any way to make it an installable file on a preexisting Linux 14-15 OS?

Short answer is yes. You would need to already have your udev rules setup (i provided a script to do that on the Build Box thread), and you would also need to have adb and fastboot installed on your linux box (a little apt-getting will sort you out). If I am feeling ambitious someday I will make an installer to do all that for you.

I made an installer for existing linux systems. In theory, it should work without issues if you have your udev rules setup properly and have adb and fastboot installed.

edit: moved link to OP

I find it easiest to set Nautilus/Nemo to ask what to do every time I double-click an executable file. You can do this by going to Edit, Preferences, Behavior tab

Then, just unzip, double-click the installer, and choose run. Once it is installed you will find it in your dash by typing warp2.

Enjoy!

Just uploaded version 3. Again, no need to download if you already grabbed version 1 or 2. The only thing I changed is a typo in the installer gui. It said "Reooting" instead of "Rebooting" and I am particular lol

Ok, I know 3 versions in 3 days lol...well here is #4. However, this one is different. I rebuilt the entire project from scratch and based it off Slitaz Linux. The entire ISO is now only 47MB making it much more appealing. The only thing sacrificed is a pretty GUI while the script is running. I have made the terminal output very friendly and you don't need to interact with it at all other than reading it. Anyway, I hope you like it ;)

SuperR,

This is pretty / seriously awesome as everyone has indicated above! :)

I'm very interested in thinking about how easily this might be adapted for other root-related activities on other devices as the USB issue is pretty ubiquitous...it's simplicity of use is just brilliant!

Any interest in expanding this to other devices or allowing it to be adapted?

Hit me up via PM if you want to discuss off-line...no big deal either way :).

Thank you again for this very cool tool you've provided to the Warp Sequent rooting community! :)

Hey SuperR, this is a very nice tool and will help a lot of people... even if this isn't for your device, you can still use this tool and some terminal instructions and the fastboot drivers and adb drivers will work like a charm as well... This did not work for me but I have a weird N861... I did not need this tool as I am properly set up already but figured I'd try it... My device still does not accept images flashed through fastboot. The only way I can flash a recovery is to use the "fastboot boot" command to boot cwm on my N861 and to flash a cwm recovery installer zip that ironically only works in cwm... :p... when i try to flash with fastboot, it sends the image but will not write it.. I still don't understand why... but if it happens to someone else, use the method i Described here and in the Public Mobile thread in post #51... Nice work once again!! :)

SuperR, with a little help, (from no less than Scary Alien), I just used your tool.

Just a mind bending and marvelous tool in every aspect.

Thanks you so much for making this available.

I'm not bothered in the least that it was not able to solve the problem I have. Using it was so much fun! Here's that thread for information's sake.

How do u convert this new ISO into a Linux add-on, or does the add-on u wrote before do the same thing?

It doesn't convert lol. I will make an update for the package I made for you a while back. All the installers I make install to /home/youruser/.myapps. If you go there you should see the warp2 recovery installer and find_replace if you installed both. Inside those directories there is an update script and an uninstall script. Once I make the update package you can just click on update and it will do it for you ;)

Here is a beta version of the linux installer with the same options as the beta live disk. Please test and report bugs. Thanks

edit: changed my mind about the update. There were too many things that changed outside the script. Uninstall the old one, install the new, Enjoy!
