Root Trying to set custom notification sound

nuudle

Newbie
I have a rooted evo with the mikg rom.. I have a bunch of mp3s on my computer and cant figure out how to get them into my music on my phone.. I only know how to drag the mp3s onto the root of my sdcard on the phone but dont know what to do from there.

Just rooted my evo last night with mikg, love it so far! I have some mp3s in the phone and would like to use one for my notification sound. It was easy to set my custom ringtone but not the notification, it only gives me the "stock" options. Im still a super noob so i hope this makes sense.

Hmm.. I don't really recall what I did to change that, but one of these should work.

1. Hit the MENU button and use the option that makes sense (helpful right :/)
2. Go into the Stock Music app, then set song as ringtone, now it'll be in the notification menu (you can place it for the notifs if you want)
3. RingDroid has that feature I believe.... make audio file into notification sound.... something like that

best luck.

hey nuddle i merged your two thread you had going. like 9to5 said you should be able to do it by using ringdroid. i like it because you can trim the song to fit as a ringtone.

I simply put my mp3 and mp4 music in a folder named music on the sd card and the player found them on its own.

Yeah, I kinda forgot all about the editing capabilities of that app. Impressive for a phone IMO. Who needs the entire Clash City Rockers as their ringtone anyways ;) :P

Also in a sense rom go to the stock music app not the widget and select the song u want then hit menu and there is an option to set as ringtone

Strange it cant b done without an app but ringdroid did the trick! Thanks again Ocn and 9to5.. Scary how much you guys know

It can be done after you select set as ringtone in the music app a menu comes up to trim the song. Its built in to the stock rom also.

I use audacity on the puter to make all my ringtones and notifications. I used to do it on my phone but I had to use the space for the mp3's and the newly created tones. Since I moved all my music off the phone onto google music. I find that it is simpler for me to do so on the puter. Besides it's a lot more power and has tons more resources than the phone.

Being rooted you can drop your custom "tones" into the system/media/audio/ringtone and or notification folder. I usually delete all the tones in those folders and replace them with my custom ones. You will need to reboot and clean cache and dalvic after you do this but once rebooted you will have the songs in your menu's (without anything you deleted)

did you ever find the answer because its a very simple process but dont want to type it all out if you got you desired result..

I like clipping songs and having a lyric or sound as my notification. I currently have a bite from james brown as my notifaction sound. " owwwweee get up on this"
