Root TU Safe Update to 2.3.6

I got it to flash successfully, but i couldn't get root to work with anything besides the shell (and it was still the $ symbol not #), but superuser said it was granted access.

For those wondering the 2.3.6 update completely fixes the screen touch/drag/everything issue (yippee!), my wifi, blutooth, and tethering worked fine (Boost version).

For now i restored the backup i made before i restored stock/updated, i've used just about everything interdpth has made for this phone, and for that i thank you! I'm sure he'll have no problem working this out, when i get some extra cash i'll definitely donate enough for a 12pack of what ever is your pleasure. ;)

I tried to ODIN the image system image that interdpth provided, but i still don't have root. will there be a one-click solution soon?

i just wanted to clarify that I used interdpth's and ShabbyPenguin's one-click to root when I had 2.3.4, but then I deleted su out of /system/bin so that I could reciece the OTA update, which was successful, but now I can't root again. I odin'd back to 2.3.4 and I still couldn't root again. any suggestions?

i cant get the stupid phone to boot into recovery but i can make it boot into download .... recovery is vol dwn +pwr then u let go of pwr right when Samsung pops up on the screen

Wait, so you're not rooted? I've tried flashing these 5 times, and every time the boot.tar hangs and the system.tar succeeds, but I still don't see any change to my phone.

Just trying to get a sense of how much time it took.... was it number 1 or number 2?:D:D:D:D:p

I have flashed the system.tar a bunch of times, and it takes about 1-2 minutes (I think it took ~3 minutes one time). Have you attempted yet?

ooooohhhhhhhh i remember what it was well because it was like the best number 1 of all time because i sat for a hour with my phone waiting to go after like 3 :pepsi: while waiting just to get to the point of the system flashing point so i could use the restroom as it loaded ;)

Lol, no I haven't had a reason to odin yet. I was just making a joke :P

AWESOME

IF YOU HAVE CWM BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!!!! it will save you a world of freaking headache, but you already knew that...

Boot.img flash hangs everytime. have to pull the battery. the size that the phone gives doesn't match the img file either. any chance you could reupload the boot as a .zip or possibly get us a cwm image that we can advanced restore?

--->>Interdpth, you are my hero.

I would dare to say that you could have moved su to sd and put it back after the update, but that's just a thought...

I have a question. Both me and my moms phone recently got the new update message. My mom doesnt care about having her phone rooted or having cwm or any of that. If she tries to update her phone would it be safe for her to do so? Or would it mess up her phone since its rooted? I myself will just wait till interdph releases a safe rootable version.

I have not read anyone saying having a rooted phone was an issue in the update however, having a phone with cwm will cause issues with the update and not allow you to update.

I installed CWM via interdpth method. Is there a (similar) way to uninstall CWM without wiping the whole phone? I want to get the OTA update and it will not show up with CWM installed.

Thanks for replying I don't want her to get a bootlooped phone. She knows nothing about android.

You can just flash the stock recovery via Odin. Read the Odin thread.

Thank you for the response. Just to reiterate, flashing stock recovery with odin will not affect the data on my phone, right? (Already backed it up via CWM just in case).
