Help Two Issues I have questions on

Hi all. I'm going to be touching on two separate issues, so sorry if this is a little all over the place.

Issue #1. I love my phone, had it since the day it came out, but it seems to me to be (still) very buggy. At least thrice a day, I will try to open an app and get "Unfortunately, ______ has stopped." I've even gotten "Unfortunately, phone.android has stopped" and "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped." Is this normal? Is everyone still getting these or could it be something specific to my phone? Completely stock phone, mind you.

Issue #2. When I go into 'sounds' in settings, I have vibrate set to 'Always On', yet it does not vibrate unless I'm in silent mode. Even with that, there is only one vibrate pattern so I can never tell if I have a phone call or text or whatever.
Question 1: Am I doing something wrong to make it not vibrate along with audible ringtones?
Question 2: Is the a Play app that will allow me to customize my vibrate patterns and allow me to have simultaneous ring and vibe?

TIA for any info on either issue.

1, i haven't really had any system force closes with my phone. but that doesn't mean you dont have an app that may be messing with it somehow. and usually when apps force close, it is because they haven't been updated to work correctly with 4.0.x. that is not the phones fault, that is the developers. if you run into this a lot, factory reset, and only download apps you use a lot.

2, i usually never run vibrate unless i am in vibrate mode.
however, lightflow may be somethign to look into.
you can choose vibration patterns and all that jazz, along with sound, and notification light color, blink rate, sleep hours ect.

#1 I also have issues with some apps. It seems focused on certain apps, tapatalk is one I constantly get that on. There are a few others which are less common. I am thinking it is more app related than anything else.

#2 I have noticed some discrepancies with vibrate. When I am texting, after a few texts the phone will stop vibrating with key presses seemingly without reason.

I have lightflow installed but it seems to me that the only option for controlling vibrate for phone calls is to set up a notification for a missed call, not a currently incoming call.

Do you have a task killer installed?

I did not up until about 20 minutes ago. I now have Metago Astro installed, but don't really know much about it/how to use it.

Lol uninstall it. The problems you're describing are very task killer sounding.

Like I said, I didn't have it installed until about an hour ago. All these problems happened prior to me installing it. I mean, I'll uninstall it, but why would that make a difference if the problems happened without it prior?

1. I've never had force closes on my GN. If you are getting them regularly there is something specifically wrong with your phone. As others have pointed out, its most likely an app that isn't playing nice. I'd recommend you start deleting apps you've installed until you find out which one is the culprit.

2. Get rid of the task killer. Its not needed, and at best it will cause you more problems.

3. You have to set vibrate ON in each application. The main vibrate setting only applies to system notifications and the phone ringer. If you want vibration from texts, gtalk messages, skype, google+, etc, you have to go into each app and under settings set to "Also Vibrate when notified".

Yep, what Tim said. I'm sorry, when you first described the problem it sounded very task-killer-ish. Then when I saw that you had installed one, I suggested you remove it. It would most likely make matters worse.

The vibrate under the sound settings is for the phone ringer only. If you aren't getting vibrate for SMS, email, Gmail, etc it is because you need to go into that specific app's settings and change the vibrate from never which is the default.

Your force closes sound app related. A hard reset and slow install of apps one by one might help you figure it out.

Light flow is awesome for customizing notifications for apps including changing the vibrate pattern, setting repeat notifications, etc. As said before, it won't change the vibrate for an incoming call, but if you have your phone on vibrate and it just keeps vibrating, well I guess its a phone call eh? :-)

Ok, so I'll uninstall the task killer. Not sure if I haven't explained this well enough or not, but my issue with vibe is that it is not working for me on incoming calls only UNLESS I have the ringer set to silent. Even though I have vibe set to 'always'. I have had lightflow for a while and have it set to custom vibes for various functions, but vibe does not work on phone calls when the ringer is on for me. That's what I would like to fix. Sounds like it's not doable though.

In that case, since you are talking only about the phone ringer and vibrate, I sense a hard reset in your future. In my sound settings screen i have a box to check for vibrate and ring, but I do remember that it used to be a drop down where you set vibrate to {never, always, only on silent}. I'm running Android 4.0.4 leaked update so I wonder if that was changed in this update. Either way, if you have the setting as you want it and it's not working correctly and you don't have any other app that would be conflicting with the setting, I would try a hard reset. If it is an app causing a conflict, it may just be enough to uninstall and reinstall that app, just don't restore a back up of the uninstalled app.

I had used SettingProfiles to turn off my lock screen when at home. Well, it got wonky and my phone would not lock when I turned the screen off and then the lock screen would pop up at some point after I was using it once I had turned the screen back on, and this was happening even when I wasn't on my "Home" profile. Something was apparently corrupt with the profile itself because it kept coming back even after I deleted the profile and hard reset. I realized it was because I was restoring my settings after the reinstall of the app. Even though the profile was deleted it still kept jacking up my lockscreen. Moral of story, if you figure out an app is giving you grief, it's probably not a good a idea to restore a backup of settings after you reinstall the app.

It sounds to me like lightflow is overriding the phone's ring/vibe setting. Try disabling lightflow and see if that allows the stock setting to resume working. Could be either a glitch with lightflow or a setting in lightflow you/we aren't aware of.

ok so one last clarification: through all these responses (which I appreciate tremendously), it seems as though nobody has suggested an app, or other way, to change ring vibes. Am I interpreting this correctly? There are no other options other than a continuous vibe with the ring, or off...as in, no way to customize a ring vibe?

The only one I can think of that might you let do what you want is Tasker. It allows you to do almost anything as long as you know how to "program" it.
