Two questions about TapFish

That's the Box/Piranha! Does it look like it has chicken pox? I wonder why they settled on that design...

Take a look at my tanks for any future references. Most I'm still working on, design-wise, so if you have any ideas or input feel free to let me know! I've decided to do a "one of each kind" kind of thing. Themed tanks will be wedged in between.

Red spotted piranha now that's one ugly fish. Now then, how long does it ale for things to register on the server cause my boss plays now (goldgeckomatt) and I told him to make 5 snapper tanks for me to feed and clean for cheap and easy XP for him.

However when he shot me the text that they were there, I checked his tanks and nothing. Up to five hours later, nothing. This morning they're all dead.

Hi guys! I've read all posts here, and they were interesting (it was like going back in time when the game was launched). I don't have an Android device, but I was playing this game on iPhone since it was launched. And since beginning I was keeping this blog (Tapfish 101) with useful tips and pictures for Tap Fish "addicts". If someone is interested, maybe can help me with the "Android" part.
PS: I cannot post the link to the blog, since I'm a new user...

I revived some of goldgeckomatt's fish in tank 1, prolly should have done 1 in each tank but it's too late now.

Thanks for checking out my uglies. The huge yellow fish with the red face and fins is a flashlight discus. I put him there not so much because I find him inherently ugly - it's just that he's hugely out of proportion. The ugliest fish that I have right now is the flashlight flower. Poor thing looks like a shark took a bite out of his face! The flashlights are a mixed bag - they are all very different from each other and include some of the prettiest as well as the ugliest. The flashlight giant barb is a great looking fish.

Obee, I really like some of your tanks. The deep sea backgrounds look very sharp (*sigh* - too expensive for me). But I can't figure out which one is the boxfish pirhana. I don't find the boxfish breeds terribly interesting because they tend to all like similar, but I don't find any of them particularly ugly. What color is he?

I agree with Mindbenda about the fish that have been smashed together. The Ranchu breeds tend to fall into that category, too, but I don't find them too ugly.

My favorite breeder so far is probably the Ice Fish. All of its offspring have that translucent look to them. The blue starfish algae eater looks great with them, too.

I don't have a single favorite. My "Fav Mix" tank has a little of everything in there. Though I am liking eagle rays less since a buddy of mine told me she found it funny I had a tank full of winged twigs and berries. Look at the butterfly ray for example. Eye opening really.

So I have claimed my prize each of the last 4 days and which should mean I get a free jackpot spin today. Usually there is a time below the wheels which tells you how much longer you need to wait for that free spin. According to that timer I should get a free spin yet when I try to it's asking me if I want to spend 20 fishbucks to spin. I don't want to spend 20 fishbucks for an 18 fishbuck starfish when I should be getting a free spin. Is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: And I forgot to ask, I read in the release notes that we can give fish to our friends? Has anyone been able to do this yet or is this still in the works?

Edit2: So I checked again and it let me spin for free. I don't know why it wouldn't allow me to initially but about 10 minutes after the time was up I got my free spin so it's all good now.

I find today's message about the jackpot spin being on sale very annoying because it seems specifically designed for people who don't know enough about the game to fall into the trap of spending money that they don't need to. Most likely, you will get a starfish, and if you're very lucky, one of the more expensive fishes. But a starfish costs only 18 bucks anyway whereas the jackpot spin costs 20 "on sale." And I understand you might not even win a starfish.

This is nearly as bad as the "speed up" button. I can't think of a single reason why anybody would need to spend bucks (i.e., real money) on speeding up a single fish.

Today I wanted to test the odds of getting a Gourami by spinning the fortune wheel. So, with a help of a friend (helping with the "financial" part), we took 100 spins.
Here are the results:
- 100 x 20 fb = total cost - 2000 fb
winnings:
- 436 fb
- 2636 xp
- 10 Jersey
- 4 Football
- 5 Tall gate flag
- 3 Referee fish
- 3 Goal post
- 6 Quarterback fish
- 4 Football stadium backgrounds
- 8 Fan fish
- 3 Helmet
- 4 Lombardy Trophy

The question is: "Where is the Gourami?" Because TF posted on Facebook on August 24, quote:

"Tap Fish ‎@Heather....the gouramis are still there, but just not as likely to win as the football items at this time. Not a football fan? :("

Tried this on iPhone, but I think on Droid results are similar

As far as I know we don't have a sports theme on android except for the world cup background.

were the four backgrounds different or all the same?

Yk17 what is your name on the iPhone version? I play on both, amd my name is the same on both: raynoldsk

My tanks are better in the iPad--because I can actually see the tanks on the screen and I can use as much memory as I want to =)

I hate that football stuff--but I get a couple of thousand coins for selling it back to them. I want the gourami!

Only one background is available through spin: Football stadium. It is available in the store (iPhone) for 100 fb. Let me see if I can post a screenshot....

@ raynoldsk: My ID on Tapfish2 is AndyFox2

Thanks, yk! Your tanks are great--and I snagged that cute little snowman fish for my Christmas fish tank. Tried to snag a Christmas tree, but it said it was sold out. Grrr! I hope they offer them again--I didn't start playing till after Christmas, and missed everything but the breedable fish.

Ugh, yeah the "Speed Up" button, though it makes sense from the developers' perspective as to why they did it. If you look at the ratings and reviews - whether it be in the Market or around forums/blogs - people complain constantly about how "long" it takes for the fish to grow, and how it's annoying to have to "wait forever" for the fish to reach adulthood. The developers probably saw this as a money-making opportunity to take advantage of those annoying people who don't have the patience to wait, what, like 3-7 days at most for fish to grow. If you notice, most of the add-ons and edits to the game are because of the stupid complaints people make... and they all cost real money!

It's hilarious but quite sad that people don't have patience anymore.. not to mention skill... or at least a little brains. I noticed a lot of complaints were about not being able to have ANY fun or play AT ALL because of the fishbucks... Come on people! On Tapfish's facebook, sometimes I bite my tongue (er.. fingers?) not to type back snarky responses to the people who ..just...don't...get...it and refuse to. I'm not siding with the developers' choices in their money-making schemes, but they're damn smart for acting on those silly demands (aka listening to the dumb people and not paying attention to the real problems that wouldn't really benefit them, like the force close or memory issues).

Anyway I was thinking... we should have some kind of forum outside of this general Android site or some kind of private forum so it'll just be catered towards Tapfish people, and more organized. That'd be kinda cool to consolidate our knowledge or whatever, and it seems like all of you are here and write here a lot anyway, so why not? I've learned a lot from you guys, and it'd be cool to make some sort of "club" (for lack of a better and less cheesier word) to keep just us and others interested in Tapfish in the know, without getting jumbled into the mass forum category of "Games."

Thanks TapRos! I enjoy browsing your tanks as well. I will check, but maybe the fish I'm talking about isn't a Box/Pirahna mix.. but it's the really ugly one that's kinda round and fat, puffy looking almost, looks like it has spots and some hair, and it's red, yellow, and some other colors. I'm not near my phone right now so I'll post later. My favorite fish are the really beautiful ones that have nice colors, and then the really odd unique ones that make you go "what?" I agree with Mindbenda, the ugly ones are the half one breed half another. They look like the graphic designer was slacking off that day...

BTW, how do you take pictures of your tanks? Without using a camera of course... I guess it's called screenshot or something? Is it a program? (Wow, I feel really stupid.)

Sometime late September, I may be upgrading and getting an iPhone (I have an Android now). Will I be able to "Restore Game" and access the game I play on my Android? I'm confused about what Tapfish 2 is... is that just for iPhone users?

I can start a forum if we want one. Won't be fancy, but it will be there.

Doesn't need to be fancy. Just locatable, I guess is the word, because whenever I come to this page I go through Androidforums, then games, and I see that this thread is mixed with other Android games threads. So if new people who want our awesomely amazing juicy knowledge come here, they can find us easily.

I think it would be a great idea to start our own forum. The original poster of this thread doesn't even seem to be around anymore. He asked the "two questions" way back when and I was the first one who answered. Now the thread has grown to over 600 posts. Just let us know how to get to it!

I don't have an iPad but just for larks, I dug out my old iPod Touch and dowloaded Tap Fish 2. It's weird to only have one tank and 75 coins and it's hard for me to remember how I ever got to where I am now at millions of coins and 35 tanks. I visited you, Raynoldsk, on the new platform. I will NOT be spending any money on the iPod version though.

It's nice to be able to select your neighbor's fish and see what it is. I also like the idea of being able to take a screenshot, but is there a way of saving it apart from uploading it to Facebook?

Where is the name of the default background? I don't see it listed in the standard category.

Thanks for the screenshot, YK17, and welcome to the forum!
It's a nice background -- but 100 bucks is pretty steep!!

Once you take the screenshot it will be saved in your iPod memory. From there you can transfer it to computer, email it, etc. Most pictures on my blog are from my old iPod (before I got the iPhone).
I have no problem with the price, since I have one gazillion fb and several hundred gazillion coins. But please don't tell Gameview, they enjoy disabling people's games.
The forum idea is good, let me know when (and if) it will be. Not that I will be able to come there often, sometimes I don't have internet for months :(

Thanks for the blog.

There are a lot more options on the i-version but my iPod is too small. For some reason, the decorations such as starfish are much bigger, so my tank feels really cramped even though I haven't been able to afford to buy enough to make my fish happy yet! Thanks for the gifts, raynoldsk! I am going to keep playing a while to see how long it takes to get somewhere without spending any money.
Btw, what category is that first fish they give you? I can't find him.

Green Snapper? It's first one on "starter fish", 10 coins to buy, 15 to sell, grows in 4 hours. A very good one for making xp points when you start. That's until you can get the White Grunt (4200 to buy, 5880 to sell, grows in one day). Keep the fish happy for more profit: 11 cheap plants and 11 starfish should do the trick. You get 91% happiness, that's 20% more value when you sell. There's no difference in value over 91%, so no need to get them to 100%

Hey quick question about link2sd: I linked Tapfish already to the second partition on the SD, but when I click on "manage" I can still "Move to SD." What does that mean, can I split Tapfish's mbs apart and still be able to play without interruption?

No, not green snapper - that's also on the Android version. They gave me an adult orange fish which is nicer looking than the green snapper and also worth 15 coins. It's not a breedable though. I don't remember the name and I can't get to my iPod version right now to check (no wireless connection at work). It's not in the Starter category so I can't figure out where to go to buy more.
