Did you read the end of the CM7 guide in this thread on page 1. There is no way to answer if the video camera will be fixed because if it was a simple fix it would have already been done. All we can do is wait and hope.
 
What is the easiest "mod" or "os" to use that will still allow me to use all of my market apps and backup and not negatively affect anything else? Icarus, CM6, CM7, or is there a decent way to get 2.2 or 2.3 on the Ascend for Cricket? I am just trying to kill the lag (it is 5-10 sec at times), and stop getting force closes.

Also, have been having ENORMOUS difficulties getting duplicate texts. I have anti-SMS bomber, but they come in sometimes 3, 8, 22, all random numbers of minutes apart. some texts duplicate 2-3 times, some over 15 over the course of HOURS. annoying as SHIT.

Also, will App2SD cause my phone to stop lagging so much, without having to root it and install another mod/os?

If you are still on stock, I would recommend you upgrade to Icarus 1.1. See if you like it. It is a vast improvement over stock. Use it for a while and see. Then if you want, try CM6 and use it for a while. Then try CM7. Then you can make your own decission as to which one you like.

It should work without a user name and password but, You can try it. Perhaps it would help in your case.

Also, There is a newer version of Cm7 isn't there? I'd suggest going top the newest one. :)

there are actually three setting for apn that work for different people.

if all else fails look for MertOff.zip
 
Recently I've installed Cyanogenmod 6 and I was having problems with the wifi and the connection to MetroPCS, so I figured that the ROM wasn't for me so I went back to stock 2.1 by using my backup.

Now, I once again realized that stock is awful and tried and installed Cyanogenmod 7 and can say it is great! Wifi, a2sd, good network connection, MMS (I think...never tried it), and speed were fantastic!

Were, by which I mean that I can't go for using the phone for more than about an hour without it shutting itself down and going to the boot screen FOREVER without any sign of loading up properly.

And this isn't just one time, this has been now 3 times. I've had to revert to stock, go through the process of installing Cyanogenmod 7, manually installing all my apps from Titanium Backup Root (which that takes a long time with all the apps I have) and setting all my features I preferred in my stock format.

TL;DR I need help, I'm new, Cyanogenmod 7, boot screen won't go to my launcher, solution?

i attempted this but i received a black screen with blue writing that asked me to system reboot. did i do something wrong?
 
Your problem may be restoring your apps. When you change operating systems you need to download the apps again. It's a pain but you gotta do it that way.

Did the last step prompt close, if not install the usb drivers to your huawei..

To do this turn your phone on and let it go into the os, next plug it into your computer and run whatever app pops up to run.. Click install phone drivers, which I think should be the first option..


Thanks TokeAndPoke for this wonder full thread, i've had this phone for an hour and i'm already 'voiding the warranty'..

BTW I went with the CM7, which is friggin awesome!

I need to get ahold of someone in the detroit area, cause the first step (Getting to icarus) intimidated the hell out of me.
 
Before I pay someone to do this for me, what are the particular benefits of beefing up an ascend this much. What new can i do with my phone that I can't do now with it being on 2.1, rooted, overclocked to 600, heap count upped to 40, blade buddy and shark, added? I mean being in Detroit, the speed doesn't apply to much cause I'm stuck in 1x (2g) mode regardless cause out 3g towers were transformed to 4G towers so no more 3G. Is it really that important that I do all of this good stuff?

None of these roms do jack for your connection speed. But for in phone customization and blazing on a device thats biggest operating flaw is its distibuters constraints, try one of these sweet roms. Back up with cwm, whats the worst that can happen? You have to flash back?
 
That's my point, if it can't help my connection, and sans Roms my phone already runs great now, what do they ultimately achieve?

They have overclockable kernels so you can run them at 710. Although you think your 2.1 is overclocked it's not, Huawei already pushed it to 600. Also you get a lot more features and customization. Furthermore, you get a newer version of android which allows you to download the newer apps. Trust me it's much better than stock rooted.
 
First off, thank you TokenPoke for the detailed help.
I installed CM7 but, like others, my WiFi doesn't work. All I get is Connecting, Scanning, Disconnected.
It's not broadcasting a signal as I cannot see my phone trying to connect while looking in my routers GUI, but it is receiving a signal since it does list my WiFi SSID.

Any help would be appreciated
 
I did everything as directed. I'm very computer savvy, however, this IS a cell phone, not a computer, lol.

I get NO SIM CARD wen I boot. I try to dial and it states no network.

I have METRO PCS and I am using the ascend.

I have done the network updates, above, and everything is perfect. Triple checked!

Any tips what to do to bypass this issue? Thankyou in advance.

Flash back to stock and then flash CM6 it's a better 2.2.
I assuming you got the uim error everyone is talking about, so your gonna have to flash stock anyways.
 
One other quick hit question while I wait for a WiFi fix suggestion.

How do I allow write permissions for my SD Card.
I cannot drag and drop anything onto it without "The Media is Write Protected" error.
