Never even used ROM Manager when I did an ascend last weekend

Can't mount might be an issue.
I had it bricked(Huawei screen) deleted everything off the phone(laptop) and started from scratch...no worries we can get it done

I couldn't get CM6 to flash, but I got CM7 to flash. Followed all instructions, but it won't boot. I can get back into CWM, I can go back to stock. Everything works up 'til actually booting CM7 the first time. It just freezes at the Huawei logo. When installing the .zip's, the "phone will do a bunch of crazy stuff for a few minutes after each .zip is selected". The screen just goes black for a split second, then comes right back.

The market version of Rom Manager doesn't recognize the Ascend properly. The only CWM it offers is for Huawei U8150. I think that's CWM 5.1.2.8, which doesn't work on my phone. I got an older version which recognizes my phone, but it won't let me download roms through it.

What recovery are you on
I'm on CWM 3.0.0.5 and whatever the RM in the market is. (free version)
When I try to download roms through RM, it just keeps saying I need CWM installed and won't let me get past that. I checked and I still have CWM installed, just RM doesn't recognize it.
I downloaded the CM6 & CM7 from this thread because I couldn't get RM to flash the correct CWM, & couldn't get the previous version of RM that I currently have to download roms.

I've been there. Went with Toke's very thorough guide 'cuz there are WAY too many options for a noob to screw up on. I'm gonna try BobZ CM7.1 for Lazy Ascends. Could be that running CM 6 or 7 is just too much work for my phone. My phone is probably just (a lazy b*tch) not a top of the line android.

Actuallly all rom files are available at prepaidandroid.org. the guide is really intended to teach people to use cwm and as a place to get the cwm manual flash package and instructions on using it to flash alternate cwm versions.
As a note: I have been informed that a few links are not working. I will eventually fix them but don't really have time to do it via phandroid app.
Good links are available at the above site in the respective rom sections.

Yeah, I got her an Esteem for Valentine's. I'm getting myself the Connect when it comes out. Until then, I'd like to pimp out my Ascend.
I saw that it has a ton of files, an overwhelming amount. I wasn't sure what would work & what wouldn't with the Ascend. Way too many options when I have almost no clue what I'm doing. Well, you never learn without making mistakes. And CWM makes it nearly impossible to brick my phone.

Flashing finally worked! I used Bobz CM7 for lazy Ascends (that gbiggie linked to). Now gapps.zip won't flash. Will CM7 work for me to reboot my phone? I'll just have to download a different gapps file.

Got it all working! gapps installed, CM7 IS RUNNING! Flashed MetrOFF fix, everything is awesomesauce!

You are REALLY on top of it with the helpful links gbiggie! Thank you very much. I'm gonna mod my wife's old Ascend before giving it to my brother. Now to get the wife's Esteem rooted.

Do you know if this will work on the Huawei Ascend M835? I showed my "new" phone to a friend, & he's begging me to mod his.

Eww Esteem C..let me know how that goes..have a friend that just bought one(C also) and seems like there are more options for ROMs ect on B than C rooted..for now anyway.
No on the M835(not a Ascend) still waiting a few friends to root and MOD their M835's also

My brother has a rooted M835, but doesn't wanna mess with a different rom. A friend has the same phone, but he figured since I successfully put CM7 on mine that I can probably do it to his.No on the M835(not a Ascend) still waiting a few friends to root and MOD their M835's also
