Root Unable to access applications

I can access all applications that are in internal memory. All apps that were moved to the SD card are inaccessible. I can access my SD card. My music files play fine, my photos show up in gallery, etc. If I go into settings > manage applications, every single item says computing next to it. If I click the SD tab, all items are grayed out. I want to just do a factory reset, but my backup applications are on the SD card. If I go into market and try to download any app, I can click the install button fine. When I get to the screen to accept the permissions, hitting okay does nothing. I can't install anything now. The only apps I have access to are the ones in internal memory. Any suggestions?

Can you clear data for the market app in manage applications?

Not sure. I can hit the button, but I have no reference as to what the old size was compared to new size. If I go into each and every app individually, all of them say computing next to the statistic. For example, Application: computing, Total: computing, Data: computing, etc. When I hit the button, it did gray out as normal, and the words clear data were replaced with recomputing size. But when I go into Market after that, same result. I also rebooted, and entered Market again. Still no access. I have tried to Unmount my SD card, and it just force closes the process. Starting to get a bit worried about my data...

So, every time you go into manage applications, everything says computing size? Is force stop also grayed out?

Correct. It just says computing. I left it alone for 5 hours, and it still says that. No matter what I do. The force stop works. I have force stopped the market several times, then launched it again. Same result.

Man, I've never seen this one before where it just continues to compute:confused: And a reboot does not solve this issue. Maybe others can chime in but a factory reset would solve the problem. Probably not interested in doing a factory reset but I would do this as a last resort if you can't find a solution.

There are applications out there that can backup certain data like sms, application data... and it would be stored on the sdcard so after the factory reset, you would be able to access that information and data. But other than that, hopefully others will have a solution.

I have never seen this before either. I have those backup apps you mentioned. I am rooted, and even have Titanium Backup. I just went ahead and did the factory reset, and get the same thing. Then I pulled the SD card, and booted up without it. Works fine. No more computing, and I can download from Market. So then I just did a backup of the SD card contents onto my computer. Now I want to reformat the SD card but can't do that. I can access music, pictures, etc, so I am pretty sure the SD card still works. But when I go into the SD card settings, the option to format it is grayed out. I try to unmount it, and it freezes the process, and I have to force close. Don't quite know what to do next.

Ah, you're rooted:) That makes things a little different but a little easier. What rom are you on? And what recovery are you using?

Before formatting, have you transferred all your files off your sdcard?

BTW, since you are rooted, I will move you to the All Things Root section

what rom are you on? you can try and wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash the rom. you will not loose data and settings.

also do you have your card partitioned?

I am brand new at the rooting thing. I used Unrevoked to root the phone, but I did not flash any ROMs that I am aware of. I simply rooted with Unrevoked, then backed up the active ROM with Titanium Backup. I cleared the Dalvik cache, and now that you mention it, that was the last thing I did before this issue occurred. Do you think that could have been the cause? In any case, I have "fixed" this whole issue. In the end, I had to take out the card completely, then format it in my computer. I then did a factory reset on my phone with the card out. Put the formatted card back in the phone, and formatted it again through the phone, since I couldn't do it before. Once done, I downloaded Titanium again, then copied my backup onto the card, and restored my apps!!! I would like to know what caused this whole fiasco to begin with however. I am scared to clear that Dalvik cache again!

dalvik cache is just a place where your phone uses to open up files and then reconfigures them upon booting up your phone. it is a temp file storage holder sort of speaking. sometimes when you get glitches, errors, force closures, and other issues like that wiping dalvik cache and cache (in clockwork mod, it is called cache partition)usually will help the situation.

so not exactly sure what happened, but a factory reset, i do not think was completely necessary. but, at least you got it working again.

also i would consider switching recoveries to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod and with clockwork mod, you will not be able to flash certain files. to switch go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. and follow the instructions in the switching recoveries section.

Hi there. This thread is too old and the last response was like two years ago. I have the same problem so I didn't add a new thread. I have alcatel one touch sapphire 2, I dont have SD card because the internal storage is already enough for me. I let my friend borrow it for a while to play temple run 2 and when she gave it back to me I am not able to access any apps anymore. When I go to file manager I cannot open the Phone Storage so I thought it's all because of the game. I went to application setting and tried to uninstall games but all apps have the "computing size" problem. I reboot and hard reboot my phone and even let the battery drain but the problem still exists. I considered factory reset but i dont have any backup. The apps I have downloaded were not too important to me 'cause they are all free and I can re-download them but I'm worried about the pre-installed apps in the phone when I purchased it that were also in the downloaded category of the applications. I don't know how to get them back when I already wiped out all the data on my phone so I have second thoughts on resetting my phone. Any suggestions.

I hope my post would still be noticed. Can you help me please...

ok just an fyi this thread is in the htc evo 4g forum, so you have to be careful of what suggestions you follow. second this thread is in the root forum so if your phone is not rooted then of course you do not have access to the internal apps.

temple run should not have created whatever issue you have. if you phone is not rootd then the only thing you can do is a factory reset. you do not need a bcakup as this only wipes data. you will loose your game progress, but you tried to unistall it anyways, so........

i do not have your device so i can be of much help other then what i have said.
