Root Unable to send/receive texts

I have a rooted Optimus V with Bobzhome firmware on it. Everything worked great until i paid my second bill. I had data problems that Virgin mobile fixed, but afterwards I am unable to send/receive text messages. I have gone into the *#*#4636#*#* menu and the smsc is blank. When I refresh it I receive "refresh error". I have the Virgin smsc number, "+61411990010". I've tried entering it as ASCII text and hexadecimal from the PDU converter. When trying to update I receive an update error. I really need some help/guidance. I'm ready to pull out my hair and I don't have much to start.....

I found some info for you in this thread. Try this:

Open dial pad enter *#*#4636#*#* then Phone information, scroll down to SMSC
edit: I'm reading on the internet that the SMSC number should be in PDU Hexadecimal format.
OK I found it. Enter 07911614910910F0 for Virgin
0 = zero, not letter O.
This guy used the same number.

You need to be entering SMSC number in Octal-Hexadecimal format with special leading numbers, to tell android which format is that.
I used this one: Online PDU Encoder and Decoder | Open Source @ twit88.com
At the bottom, there is a converter for sms message to pdu format. Do the following, remove everything, except you smsc number (with plus sign) convert to pdu. Copy first 16 numbers from pdu. And enter them in your android SMSC update field. Click update

I've done the aforementioned and neither item helps. I've gone back to my backed up stock rooted rom (Initial backup after I rooted the phone and put clockwork on it) and I'm still unable to update the SMSC. When I put the converted number, "07911614910910F0", in and push update, all that it returns is "update error". I believe there might be some kind of permission issue. I was also looking into AT commander (or Android equivalent) to send an at command forcing the SMSC number. The problem with this program is it doesn't ask for superuser permission and I'm not sure how to grant it without being prompted. I called VM and the first guy sent a ticket up to someone else. Just a minute ago I received a message stating "$VMU$ Your services have been reset but if issues persist give us a call @866-553-9805. Thank you! ~VMU" I pulled the battery after shutting down and then powered it back on. Still not working. I'm going to restore my original nandroid backup and try activating again. I appreciate the suggestions and will let you know if I fix it through reactivation.

Still not working...... Does anyone know if this could be some kind of permissions issue? Is this info stored in a file I deleted some how or inadvertently changed the permissions/ownership of? Where is the SMSC config stored? Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I'm dead in the water. I've seen others with this problem and find it hard to believe there isn't some genius out there that solved it. This isn't meant to be derogatory. It's actually quite a compliment to all of you out there figuring this complex stuff out. Thanks once again for all suggestions/leads.

I've done some more searching and can find nothing helpful. I thought there might be some way to change it using terminal emulator or the ADK but haven't seen anything yet. Only thing I've seen about the SMSC location was on the sim card but that is in the UK. I'll look some more when I have time.

Good luck...

I appreciate the attempt. If I can get my phone to work with a hyperterm equivalent I might be able to send an AT command to set the SMSC. I will keep trying and maybe one day I'll get it. Maybe some of the info here will at least help someone else.

Flash the stock ROM or the Harmonia ROM and hit the activate app until you get your data service back. It might take a few tries but it does work. Just make sure you do a complete wipe and format before flashing one the aforementioned ROM's.
