No you cannot - Verizon is CDMA, not GSM.

Thus, you cannot use anything, including internet, that requires data (3g) during a call.

Hope that helps!

One of the down-sides of Verizon that AT&T has made an effort to publicize. You cannot use 3G for data when you are on a call. You can, however, use wi-fi internet when you are on a call.

I'm not certain if a firmware/radio update will enable it on the Incredible, but VoRA is coming soon that will allow simultaneous voice/data sessions. It will basically be like Skype (VoIP), but through the native call control of the phone.

If you have a Wifi connection, you can connect and use wifi for data while on a phone call. This way, you can talk and serf at the same time.

I can confirm this. I found this feature by happy accident when working at home one day.

It operates the same as any other CDMA phone with WiFi. If you're connected to WiFi, it will use that for it's data traffic allowing you to use the CDMA radio for voice.

What sucks is that you still can not use data while making a Google voice call. There should be a way around this since you are using data for the GV call. Anyone have an idea?

Which method are you using to place a GV call? Are you using the call back or direct dial?

GV is not VOIP is not using data for calls

Seconded.

A lot of people (especially on these forums) don't seem to understand that Google Voice is NOT a VOIP service like Skype, Vonage or Gizmo5. Google Voice is simply a collection of voice services, like call forwarding to multiple phones, online voicemail, etc. Since Google acquired Gizmo5 several months back, it is possible that Google Voice will get VOIP features in the future, but it does not yet.

This guy has a great post explaining Google Voice in better detail for those interested. I need not rehash his points: Google Voice FAQ - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

THANKS for this info. I was not aware that GV actually uses your plan minutes. I was mistakenly under the impression that it was VOIP.

You're NOT using data for google voice calls. Google voice is actually calling your phone and connecting you in the background.
