Does anyone know How do u get the universal androot to work on the evo? Im not sure about how to root it from a computer and I hear androot is simple and quick....can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

Read the Rooting for Dummies guide stickied at the top of the Threads. It is very good and has step by step instructions for rooting and after rooting.

I appriciate the help...but if I do root, is it going to be hard to unroot if I evert wanted too....and with the wireless teether, am I able to give internet connection to my ps3 ?

Wireless tether will work on the ps3.
I have not personally tried it, but i have heard it works well.

If you need to unroot, that guide also has instructions. Its quick and pretty easy, and takes a few minutes. If you do need a hand, we can help out.

I dont know what kind of speed you get to your device with your 3G (or hopefully 4G if your planning on tethering a PS3) but, a couple things id be wary of.... if youre playing call of duty or something, you might lag pretty badly(i only say that cuz my home internet connection is 20 megabits/sec and i have infrequent moments of lag) and id have your device charging when tethering as its using 2 radios simultaneously and will chew up your battery quicker than s___! But, with regards to any fears rooting, i was a nervous nelly about rooting, but now after TONS of very appreciated help from the forum, I am on my 6th ROM and love flashing new ones when theyre announced!! Good luck, and happy rooting!! :)

I do want to root but i dont know exactly what im doing and I hear if its done wrong it could damage my phone...im going to try the unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.32 ...it sounds simple so i'll try

I found this app called Z4 rooot and it allows me to temporaly root & unroot and it also have a permentaly root...i used it to get wireless tether to give my ps3 connection....its working good so far...does anyone know of any disatcantages I may have using this app

i would root using the dummies guide. the z4 root is temporary. and you have to use it all the time. i'm rooted and would never have to use the z4 method. i don't think that there is any harm in using it, however. not sure on long term effect though. your call. just remember that you can always ask questions on the rooting process. this place has a lot of great people willing to help.

Yeah, that is an option, but using the Rooting Guide will be better for you. It is a permanent root (although you can unroot if you need to) and its easier in my opinion.

Just follow the guide and dont do it while youre drunk and you should be ok. I have never heard of a broken/screwed up phone from following that guide. You will be ok. You would really have to intentionally do something stupid to break your phone while using Matlocks wonderful guide. If you have any questions, let us know :)

There's nothing wrong with using z4root all the time, but it's only a temporary, partial root. It doesn't unlock nand, so all you can do with it is run root-only apps. You won't be able to flash ROMs, mods, etc., nor will you be able to make changes to /system (think removing bloatware). You could use it to freeze bloatware, though, I suppose. Really, unrevoked is a much better option unless the only thing you want to do is run wifi tether, and that's it, for example.

Absolutely possible. All Sense roms(that I know of) have working 4g. AOSP roms have 4g working in betas but not in stable releases yet.

Does 4g automatically still be there or is there a extra step to get it? I was thinkin bout installing the Cyanogen rom...what do u think of that one and arw there any that anyone suggest...with the rom manager...it should be easy...from what ive read

i would not recommend using rom manager. issues tend to arise because of rom manager. i would really recommend doing everything manually. it is just as simple as rom manager anyway.

you should be able to keep your wimax keys with aosp roms. just make sure you are using clockworkmod 2.6 or higher. clockwork mod 2.5 does not backup wimax keys. just keep in mind that cm does not have 4g working. and supposedly cm7 has a gps fix as well. to me, though it ran smooth, i could not get my gps to work correctly though others have. it just was npt stable enough for me.

you may also want to try miui. it was pretty stable, but it was to iphone like for me.

i prefer sense roms myself. they seem to be more stable and they are getting extremely fast. i like mikfroyo 4.5 and kings ultra unleashed r2.

best thing to do really is flash away and see what you like.
also don't forget to make a nandroid backup.

I appriciate all the help from everyone.. I have just one more question...if I use z4root and select the permeantly root option...would that root my phone correctly?
