Root Universal Eris Root for Dummies!

whoa... I didn't realize this was going to be so different. I have to set the phone up all over again. Do you know what will happen when I use google play to download apps? Will GP know that I'm now running 2.3 or will it continue to tell me the apps I want are incompatible with my phone?

Yep, Google Play will see your Android version number on that device and show you apps that are compatible (or not) with it.

Thanks Scary and Bob, I've been off and on playing with this... trying to get all my apps back on and re-configured and it takes up a ton of time. But at least I have 2.3 running and can now load all of my bird, tree, flower, mushroom, ID apps on the sd card and actually use them.
Thanks so much for the hand holding thru the process.

So now that i'm playing with it, I have questions like "is there a way to set it so that the display stays lit whenever it's plugged in?" Is there a more appropriate place to ask questions like that or at least search for answers? I'm wanting to change the dialer too but I guess I can just search Google Play for that, right?

Yeah, technically, this is a "how to root your Eris" thread ;) :), so it would be more appropriate to ask your questions in some of our existing CM7 discussion threads that you could resurrect that might ping the folks that used to (or still do) use it.

There's also the XDA thread that Bob Cat provided above, but I'm not sure how active those folks are over there, either.

:)

edit: here are Condemnedsoul's CM7 threads here at AF:

Thanks again for the help. There are so many optional settings and many of which I don't understand but I've got the phone 90% set up to my liking. I installed the TouchPal dialer-contacts app that helped a lot and have a number of other apps installed with no problems so far.
New life in an old phone!
