Unlimited now = always unlimited 3G/4G

Ok. So after reading I noticed that it wasnt "confimed" that if you have unlimited 3g now that when you "upgrade" to 4g it will be unlimited.
So I decided to call VZW....

The lady told me that any customer that had a unlimited data plan either 3g or 4g before July 7 will always be eligiable for an Unlimited plan.

So if you currently have unlimited 3g and switch to a Tbolt in 5 months and want unlimited 4g you will be able to get it.

Just letting everyone know what I was told.
As long as you have an unlimited data plan before July 7 then you will always have the option of unlimited data even if you change from 3g to 4g :) YAY!

Yeah, the rumors and un-officially published information were enough for me to upgrade my son's data plan on his D2G from the limited plan to unlimited last week.

The customer service rep was very careful how he phrased things with me, but I could read between the lines, LOL.

Cheers!

I think VzW will do what AT&T has done and grandfather the existing unlimited users for 18-24 months. After that watch out....

"They" do not care about us.............as we all know :)

Money, greed, money, greed.................................

I'm willing to bet Verizon will slowly start to throttle unlimited data users as "excessive" and a year from now it will be almost unusable after you hit a 5 or 10GB per month cap.

Currently the 3g and 4g data plan are under the same number in the Verizon system. There is literally no distinguishing between the two.

This analogy isn't perfect, but it is similar to buying a wireless router that does both G and N signals. When you bought the router, you are getting both for the same price. Of course the device you use must accept G or N to work (ie you must have a 4g phone to get 4g service right now). You bought the router (ie the Verizon Wireless Data Plan) and can use either G or N (ie 3g or 4g service) as long as your device works with the signal.

I was told that adding a 4g device is a data feature change (3 or 4 features actually) and would thus push you into a tiered plan.

Not true because 3G will be tiered also. So by that logic adding any device would ultimately change your plan into tiered. Currently, as mentioned about, it's all in the same.

I have been told so many inaccuracies by Verizon employees that I no longer automatically believe anything they tell me.
Verizon could change their plans for existing customers anytime in the future they choose to.

They can change future plans but not current plans. There are people with vzw service still on Alltel plans from 2002.

I was just looking at what would happen if I upgrade from a 3G smartphone to and 4G smartphone and currently have unlimited through My Verizon. It doesn't give you the option to keep the unlimited plan or chose from the tiered plans if you want to. So for the time being and before my employment as a VZW Care rep ended. if you have unlimited data you are grandfathered into unlimited data.

You know how this works. You can keep your unlimited indefinitely, but they'll squeeze you out of it ultimately. Take the Nationwide Talk plan. It used to have a slightly different name where data charges were $1.99/day. They changed the terms and the name of the plan going forward and in addition to some option pricing, data changed to $1.99/MB. Huge difference there. Back then, I was grandfathered, but as they released new feature phones, Verizon required the plan change to get these new phones (not compatible with the old pricing). Case in point, when I went online to look at upgrade options, I couldn't figure out why newer phones weren't showing up when I browsed through the line-up. It was because I was on an old plan. They did the same thing over a year ago when they changed the feature phone pricing structure. The phone dictated a forced plan switch. So, they'll never take it away from you but they'll pretty much limit or eliminate your hardware options if you don't change over. That's the ultimate catch. I'd keep an eye out for this by the end of 2012.

Since one of the options on Amazon Wireless when upgrading is "keep unlimited data", I'm pretty sure this has been confirmed as 100% FACT.

If you payed full retail price and activated it to your plan I would bet any feature phone would have worked at the time.

That's me, I'm on an Alltel family plan from god knows how many years ago. I've been told it will NEVER go away unless I "upgrade" the plan. My teenage daughter still has unlimited texting (a feature not offered by VZW) and reguarly busts out 15-20K texts per month. Doesn't cost me a penny more than the $19.99/month I pay for my Alltel unlimited texting plan.

Hi sx4dude2013,

Just want to confirm that all Verizon Wireless customers with a Smartphone and an Unlimited calling plan prior to July 7, 2011, are being grandfathered and will be able to keep their unlimited calling plan when they upgrade from a Smartphone to a Smartphone (3G and 4G). However, customers with a feature phone and unlimited calling plan must choose a new data plan when upgrading from a feature phone to a Smartphone on or after July 7, 2011.

Please keep in mind that grandfathering of data plans upon equipment upgrade is a courtesy to our current customers and this may change at any time in the future.

I trust this post brings some resolution to this forum members concerns.

Thank you for the feedback and confirmation :).

that's my guess.

i'm sorry to see Verizon doing this. AT&T sucks, and i'm not a fan of Verizon following in its footsteps.

guess i'll stay on 3g until my phone breaks and then consider my options. i surf the net a lot and would probably be ok on the cheap plan, but i don't want to have to check my usage obsessively.

question : do apps constantly updating count as data usage? it would suck to have to shut that feature off when not on wifi.

I can confirm this. Just got back from the store (had to upgrade after my Eris passed away) and I still have unlimited data on my Incredible 2.

I also can confirm that because I have received an email from Verizon Wireless, asking me to upgrade my Fascinate to a 4G phone while keeping my unlimited data plan.

I'm glad it has been confirmed. Also glad I gave accurate info :)
Take care everybody!
And thanks to the vzw rep for jumping in

I am due for an upgrade so was looking online. It does not allow me to choose an unlimited 4G plan even through I am grandfathered in on 3G unlimited.
