Root Unlocked bootloader?

No. It was all totally unfounded speculation.

Motorola announced that they were "working on a solution" to satisfy the people that want an unlocked bootloader while protecting their intellectual property and providing security, but that means nothing.

not sure, i sent the link in as a tip to phandroid, it was never published, but there is no telling, it could be a PR campaign to deal with the groupal

i just read that story myself....i'll believe it when i see it. Honestly i'm really
not that worried about it now. <---------------Thats how much i like the new GingerBread

Trophy,

I have to agree with you on this one. Stock Gingerblur is good for me. The only think I'd like to add to it are scrolling widgets for my schedule like sense has. Other than that, the only real reason I still want root is to enable AutoKill. Other than that, my fiddling with roms has decreased since GingerBlur. Gotta say, it's superior.

Steven

D'oh. My bad. I didn't realize you were referring to new information, thought it was the stock response that has been posted for months now (Moto's brief comment about trying to find a compromise).

Speaking of fiddling with ROM's (thought I was done too, well until Apex 2.0 stable comes out)... my uncle gave me his spare OG Droid and I've been going nuts with it... CM7 does rock btw. Would love to see it on the Droid X, and they do have it ported to the Milestone using Moto's stock kernel. But with all that we have done with the kernel inits we aren't too far from what CM7 is. Oh, just as a pat on the back to myself to use this think I had to remap the "down volume" button to the back button because the small area that the back button is on the screen is dead. MIUI is nice too btw, but feels too much like an iPhone for me.

My friend has the EVO 4G and tired CM7 on it..........he said it "sucked"........didn't really say why, he just didn't like it....to each their own I suppose.

steven, i posted it to them this morning, of course its news now, i wasnt concerned with it really, i tipped them before i walked out the door for work

kinda hoping it woulda been posted soon so people can then begin to post questions on the forums lol

I know you did. I spoke to the editors. They told me they were writing an article. It's up now, my friend.

yeah i noticed, i read it this morning and thought, hrm, i bet the moto droid community would want to know this, especially the ones who dont go to the forums

Even if this is real, the last sentence is what worries me.

It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it.”

I doubt that Verizon would let the pass the Big Red Curtain.

well i can tell you right now, im hoping at&t doesnt buy t-mo, cause i am jumping to t-mo in march of next year when my contract is up, better selection of android devices, that arent moto's and they arent locked up tighter than megan fox chastity belt

VZ has unlockable bootloaders, such as the OG, Fascinate and the TB... why wouldn't they follow the same policy if Moto allows it? (Wait.. don't answer that. :p)

yup don't get me wrong. I do want Root because of some of the apps i like to use. But i see no real reason for me to worry if the bootloader gets cracked or not.

Samsung said they aren't locking anything unless GOOGLE says they have to.
If all manufacturers take this stance, Verizon would have no choice.
personally, the Galaxy S2 is looking damn sexy

im not a fan of samsung, i really want to get my hands on a high end LG device, i have always liked LG and Moto, had one samsung that i dispised

Verizon is getting ready to release the Samsung Charge. It looks good too.

Samsung really has good products, not just phones either. And by declaring that they aren't locking the bootloaders they instantly climb up in my book. Benchmark scores from awhile back show that the Orion processor is really a powerhouse and not much beats the Super AMOLED plus screens. I just need them to release the S2 for Verizon around August or sooner.

LG is also a great manufacturer. My last two phones before my Eris were a Chocolate and the Decoy. Both were great and really stood up to the wear and tear a teenager could put on them. The G2X looks to be a mighty awesome phone and already has a big following.

Hopefully some of my favorite Developers like Jrummy, Fabulous, Birdman, Kejar and the like will all pick the same phone so i can continue to use their ROMS.

and contrary to previous posts, Fabulous got a Nexus S, not a G2X

I hate how the gs2 looks like an iPhone with that big home button on the front (ignoring how much touchwiz looks like iOs because custom roms will take care of that) Other than that, it looks awesome.
