Root unrevoke 3

I am back Akazaban hope you are online to hold my hand, I am doing the nandroid backup and thenWipe cache, dalvik cache, and data. Dalvik cache will be under advanced. I download the mikfroyo not yet on the sd card.

when this backup is done where it is stored on the sd card or the evo itself and is it hidden?

If you are flashing it thru recovery then you once it is on your sd card then you would boot into recovery. Then wipe the data, cache and dalvik-cache. Then flash zip from card. Then choose zip from card. Then you will be given a list. At the bottom (usually for me) is your ROM zip. Flash it.

thanks for the responce. that is done but the installation is done and it say "Install from SDCard complete" what next will it reboot itself or i have to back out and them restart. not sure so i await responce

Go back until you get to the screen where the first option is to reboot the phone. Then reboot.

Sounds like MissJennell got you the rest of the way through :). To answer your question about nandroid backup locations:

Clockwork - /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/(data/time)
Amon RA - /sdcard/nanadroid/(Unique number)/(data/time)

Keep in mind that you don't need to know this to restore a backup. When you go to restore, it will present you with a list of backups. The only reason you need the location is if you want to copy these off the card to your computer.

It seems that I am getting cold feet on this. I read on xda that unrEVOked is bad and doesn't root the phone. I read here- http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html That I might have trouble flashing a rom if I used unrEVOked 3.3 which is what I did. I see another thread that Mikfroyo 4.4 is giving another member headaches. And I still don't know enough of what to look out for, why all the conflicting info, and how to recognize what the correct way to do this is. Hell, I have no clue when xda says to type a command in a shell. It's all beyond me and I can't afford to screw my phone up. My computer, no problem, but I NEED my phone.

Thx...MissJennell hold my hand for real.....glad to see you Akazaban.. and I flash the Mikfroyo 4.4 and now looking around this sense..hotspot is good..........one thing I think i forget is to backup my apps!!!!!!

Unrevoked will root your phone, fully. You will be able to flash ROMs, etc. The problem was that unrevoked was using Clockwork 3.0, which couldn't flash a lot of updates. If you go download the latest version, it will flash Clockwork 2.6, which works fine. Even if you do end up with WC 3.0, it's easy to flash another recovery image. Ultimately, all root methods for hboot 2.02 and up are going to use the same ultimate method to root - unrevoked-forever. If you have hboot 0.97 or under, you can use universal autoroot to root via the eng bootloader.

Did you make a nandroid backup first? If so, just make a nandroid backup of mikfroyo, restore your other nandroid backup, backup all your apps, restore mikfroyo, then restore your apps. Theoretically, your apps are all tied to your google account, so you might be able to get them all from the market. You can definitely get all your paid apps from there.

Good idea, they are not that important except for the few paid ones but if hey are tied to google account hope i will find them, but I notice that the market say Mikmarket!!!!! and if i need sprint TV will i be able to install those? most important my contact is back. the slide to open the phone from sleep can that be changed?

1) Yes, paid ones are in the market. Assuming you signed in with the same google account, they should all show up. You still have to redownload them all.
2) Yeah, he renamed market to mikmarket. Not a big deal, other than I keep reading it as McMarket...
3) You should have a folder on your sdcard called Removed Apps (or something like that). You will find all the "bloatware" in there. Use root explorer or terminal emulator (or adb) to put them back in /system/app. If you need specific instructions on that, let me know.
4) What do you want to change the slide too? There are a number of things you can change it to. I'd just need to find the links.

The slide, yes just a better looking one that one is kinda simple, send me the link when you find it. i find some of the apps but for the Sprint apps those can stay if i will ever need them. If possible send some fancy thing I can do, livewall paper, apps etc. thanks I may be heading off to bed soon

Look on the OP at xda. He has a link to download a clear lockscreen. It will be clear with just the clock. Is that more like what you want?

You can search the market for live wallpapers. You don't need root for those. If you want info on root only apps, take a look at the Rooting for Dummies guide, or search the market for "root". Be careful downloading any old app that requires root, though. These phones come locked down for reason :).

I must say thanks again to Aka/MissJ, I am now rooted and runing Mikfroyo 4.4 working good hotspot good still 3G but good. no I want to stepup for more funstuff.

1) Not sure if i should start a new post..but...Akazabam you mention above to check out OP at Xda being searching but with no luck even sign up but no luch for that slide to open the screen, I just dont like the one come with Mikfroyo 4.4 and youmention one with a clock not that retuanglar looking slide.
2) I see some user using rom and still install kernel????
3) I was looking on miui having a iphone look , is this a rom or kernel and can it be run with Mikfroyo 4.4?
I maybe asking cray question....but!!!!

1) Yes, look at the top of the second post here:

[ROM] - [01/15/2011] - MikFroYo v4.4 - ReEngineered Sense - Simply Faster. - xda-developers

You now have two options - clear slider or the new stock/rotary lockscreen.

2) All ROMs come with a kernel, but there are other custom kernels out there besides the stock HTC ones. Netarchy is an example. Users flash different kernels for a numbers of reasons. Speed and battery life are among them. There are many other threads discussing this, so I won't go into too much detail, here.

3) Miui is a completely separate ROM. It is based off AOSP, which means it is from Google source code. It is not related to sense at all. You will need to flash it as a completely separate ROM. Be aware that you cannot use 4g while you have that ROM flashed.

How did you get software version 3.70 and the latest radio? If your phone came that way, you accepted the OTA update, or flashed a 3.70 ROM with the combo radio pack, you definitely have the latest wimax radio. I'm not sure what you did exactly, so I can tell you how to verify what version you have.

Install the terminal emulator from the market if you don't already have it. Open it, and type "su" without quotes, then enter. The prompt will change from $ to # (if it doesn't, and gives you a permissions denied error, you have problems with root). Once that is done, type "wimax_mtd" from the prompt. It will run through a bunch of tests and give you some information. At the top, you will find your wimax version. Compare it with the versions listed here:

[ Radios ][ 12-17 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers

It should match the latest version. I'm confident you have it based on the info you gave, but you can always verify.
