Root Unrevoked for Incredible (Recovery reflash tool/Easy root method)

For those who have been unsuccessful at getting your phone rooted go ahead and download this file and extract it to a folder on your desktop.

Then open the html file (double click it, it will open a browser window)

Follow the directions on updating your driver.

Then proceed with trying to root your phone with the instructions from other threads.

I believe this is when i was able to get my phone rooted, after this driver was installed correctly on my pc. In fact when i just ran the app i didn't even need to update my driver first, as it was already in place when i rooted my phone. Of course i followed the instructions to be sure i had the right driver file installed but i didn't have to change anything and was able to proceed from there.

Good luck, but imo this is the first step to actually getting your phone successfully rooted.

OMG I can get into adb shell everytime now! Man any of you Unrevoked folks live on Long Island? My family owns steakhouses there and dinner is on me

ok guys I got my all of the way to where it is saying waiting for system to settle and its just hanging there and doing nothing:confused:

also I did accept the super user permissions on the phone and everything and the modified usb driver did install correctly any one have this issue?

did you already try to uninstall htc sync? mine hung at that spot 3 times until i uninstalled sync and then it ran fine.

You can make a nandroid backup. Which will backup everything on your phone. Settings, apps, data, literally everything. That way when you do flash a rom if something gets messed up you can always reflash it back to how it is now. Its a HUGE step twords where we want to be and means if a rom were released right this moment, you'd be able to flash it and go back to how it is now if needed.

I suggest anyone that is going to try out roms from here on out to grab titanium backup and buy a license for it. You'll use it to backup all your apps and settings prior to flashing a new rom. Once you flash a new rom your phone will be cleared of all the apps, data and etc. So once you reflash a new rom you'll just fire up titanium (after you've created backups of everything) and reinstall all your data, apps, etc. This will get you back in the game much faster than trying to download each file one by one in the app store and this way you won't lose your contacts or any game/app data/settings at the same time.

so at this point theres no need to do a nand backup until i'm ready to load a new rom?

so we can "adb shell" with the phone booted now, or just in the clockworkmod recovery?

also, does this unlock the system? can we write to the system while booted now?

Yes do one now. Just in case something gets messed up with your phone. Its never a bad idea to backup, ever. As the saying goes "Save early, save often".

no I didn`t , but I have tried 4 times and keeps hanging up at the "waiting for the system to settle" I will try that thanks

Nandroid Backup:

1. Shut the phone off.

2. Boot the phone holding the volume down + power button.

3. Choose "recovery" then click the power button. (htc incredible logo will show momentarily)

4. Once in the clockworkmod recovery console press vol down and highlight "nandroid".

5. Click the joystick button to enter the nandroid screen.

6. You will have 3 options: Backup, Restore, Advance Restore.

7. Choose "Backup" (highlighted by default).

8. Click the joystick to create the backup. (This may take several minutes to finish)

9. Click the power button to go back 1 menu, and highlight "reboot system now".

10. You are done.

Within the clockworkmod recovery app you will use the joystick button to select and the power button to go back to a previous menu. The volume up and down will move the selection cursor up or down the list.

i'm stuck at "waiting for superuser privileges (this could take a minute or so)...". The first part went just fine, and once it reboots and waits for superuser it just sits there and does nothing. Any suggestions?

got it to work... i didnt finish the install bc HTC was stopping it... uninstalled and now if worked all the way through and i see the menu now... but thanks for the steps
