Root Unrooting Evo 4G?

Okay I'm brand new at this. My fiance just bought me an Eco 4G off of eBay, and when I received it I tried doing the system update, but it wouldn't work.. which lead me to find out my phone was rooted using clockwork? I don't know what any of this means and I want it back to stock. Since I have no idea what I'm doing.. I was wondering if anyone could help me step by step. As simple as possible. One problem I noticed was when I try plugging it into computer, my usb cord doesn't work.. but I CAN move my SD card to the computer via an adapter. Anyone who could help me fix this would be much appreciated.

first we need to know what your hboot is. power off the phone and then press and hold power+vol down (you might need to disable fastboot, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot). this will take you to the bootloader. if you can report what you see on the screen we can then direct you on how to unroot the phone.

Also it may not be necessary to unroot you really just need to flash an updated ROM however we need the info ocean requested to point you in the right direction
