Root Unrooting help(yes I've read the instructions)

Bought an Evo 4G online. It came rooted already(still running 2.1) recently the usb port on the phone stop working. Took it to Sprint said it needed to be replaced blah blah so i needed to unroot.

downloaded the recomended files for the unroot section in the thread rooting for dummies. got past the S on part with no problems, then I got to the last part flashing the PC36IMG.zip from the sd card and it said the update was aborted(bad) below I listed excatly what my phone is telling me on the white screen and Recovery Screen

I need help. I dont know what I did wrong. My phone boots and works fine just can't unroot it. it said PC36IMG.zip was for 95 and below.

I have a limited battery life and the replacement will be here tomorrow. The only difference from the instructions and me was I put my sdcard in my computer and transferd the files that way due to the usb port in my phone not working at all.

Please help ASAP.
 
I am going to move this to the all things root section, that way more rooted users will see this thread and be able to help you.

If the phone is being replaced, download the PC36IMG file for hboot 2.10. It will update the phone to the next to most current hboot but it is going in to sprint anyway so no big deal.

I see you tried to update from recovery, you need to let it flash from hboot. If it doesn't find it, you might have it named wrong or added a .zip to the end.
 
Hope this works. Downloading 2.10. now. I got the phone 2 weeks ago it was (and still is) running andriod 2.1update 1
 
I didnt work :(. when it loads from the white screen it says

LOADING pc36img
NO IMAGE.
Ive checked the name of the files. Iv'e repeated the process. I've tried everything. i dont know what im doing wrong.:mad:

Where are you placing the file exactly? The PC36IMG must be in the root directory of your sd card (topmost level and not in any folders). Also are you naming it in all caps?? It must be renamed to PC36IMG EXACTLY.
 
the file is in all caps, not in a folder. its the only file on the sd card oh and im using a pc. I cant connect my phone dircetly to the computer because the usb port on my phone no longer works at all(it fell out) so I mounted the sdcard directly to my pc

If it didn't find it I guarantee its named wrong our in the wrong place, add or remove the .zip from the end and try again.
 
PLEASE HELP ME! I HAVE AN EVO AND USED TO HAVE IT ROOTED. I RETURNED IT TO STOCK LAST WEEK AND NOW I CAN NOT ROOT IT AGAIN USING UNREVOKED. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT MY PHONE IS ATTACHED AND USB DEBUGGING ENABLED. LIKE I SAID, I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE BUT ITS NOT WORKING THIS TIME. PLEASE HELP ME, MY name is chaz, I really need help guys, its driving me crazy not being rooted!!!!! 407 xxx xxxx

First, keep your posts in one place. Second, I would suggest editing out your phone number for your own piece of mind. Third, did you accept the OTA when you were unrooted? Have you tried reinstalling the drivers or installing and uninstalling HTC Sync?

Im having similar issues. I followed the instructions found here and when I try to do teh OTA update, it wont work. The S-ON patch worked, and it will load the PC36IMG.zip, but it says main is older. Reboot?

I reboot, it loads, but wont update. And it looks like I still have root. Is that normal? Is it related to teh fact I cant do the OTA update, or not?
