Update: 2.1 OS upgrade for Rogers HTC Magic+

As of midnight ota server. seems back. Waiting for my download..

Yup. Just downloaded and installed (on Fido none the less!)
Sweet update. Runs much smoother than 1.5 and looks crisper. Hope battery performance is the same (or heck even better would be nice)

Haven't come across any real issues yet and from the experiences of quite a few here I seem to be one of the lucky ones who was able to perform the update successfully. As someone else mentioned, I find the display to be much sharper and clearer and brighter than before but am still evaluating the battery life. As I tend to go in and out of Wi-fi all day this can have a huge affect on how long my battery lasts. Some days at noon I am still sitting at 75 % but other days I am below 50 % by then.

Not sure if this was in 1.5 but if you go to Settings - About Phone - Battery and click on Battery Use it gives you a break down on what is using the battery. For me this morning it is saying Cell Standby - 33%, Wi-Fi - 33%, Display - 31% and phone idle 3%. No idea how accurate this is.

Mary, I posted separately that I have been unable to find/launch Voice Dialler with the update (I happily had no problems with my OTA update), and certainly haven't been able to use my Bluetooth headset to initiate calls. Was it not actually included, or is there perhaps a problem with my update that I haven't otherwise noticed?

Thx

Hi HabsRule93. Glad to hear the OTA went well. Unfortunately, tech support is outside my scope of being able to help. I'd suggest either calling Tech Support or perhaps someone here can offer advice.

I tried it.
Downloaded it.
Installed it.
Failed.

Mine worked fine. The only complain I have of the upgrade process is the horrendous feedback it gives to the user about the progress. It uses about 3 different progress indicators, 2 of which seem to get "stuck" for a long time.

Does that mean that the manual process has also been fixed.....the file that they are hosting online .... has that been updated in order to get rid of error [132]...?

I just tried a few seconds ago... downloaded the latest HTC Sync I could find for Android 1.5 and 1.6 phones (2.0.40) and the

yah i cant do OTA either, my data is roaming right now as im out of the country and i dont have wifi which is why i need to do a manual update....but my net is super slow....you would think they would at least change the file name so we know that changed the file.

I honestly think HTC is confusing our claim with OTA updates and not manual updates. I dont think they really realize the the online file is also faulty or else they would of pulled it when they took down the OTA server.

ok this is kinda getting stupid. I just called HTC and i was right...the whole time they were referring to the OTA update and they didn't even know a manual way existed. He could not understand where that file on there website came from and suggested that this is a special case for an individual basis (load of BS). Hes telling me the only option is to do the OTA update.

Isn't HTC Sense for 2.1 supposed to include Friend Stream? If so I can't find it. Anybody able to use it or find it for download? Thx.

My Magic + got the upgrade notification and I followed step by step on screen instruction and everything went well.
I am really happy and enjoy it. :)
But I have a question:
What is the best way to root it?
Thanks

No it will NOT,
I am Unlocked on Fido, had no issues at all.
Once UnLocked your good to go.

Thanks hax :)

Just updated and screen does look sharper. Still have to go and see what all major updates are, but looks good so far. Was worried I might loose contacts or messages, bur everything's there.

Hi,

I've been following this whole update fiasco since I first received my Magic+. First off, I'd like to say great work to all those who made this update happen. You know who you are!

I have yet to update my Magic+. I was waiting to see how the OTA update rolled out and judging by the reports and HTC server issues, I see it didn't go well. Have these issues been resolved? Should I expect this update to improve my phone performance or stability because since I have owned this phone, I have not had any issues with it. It sounds like all this update does it create problems. I don't want shorter battery life for starters, I don't want force close issues when I don't have those issues now. I want an update that actually improves the phones capabilities rather than degrade it.

Can anyone confirm if this update increases or reduces battery life or any other minor or major performance stability issues that myself and others might be interested in hearing about before even considering updating our devices?

Thank you in advance...

Datacat, can't confirm battery life issues, but I can tell you my experience so far.

So far my phone has felt "snappier" after the update, even though it tends to have less RAM reported free than before. So, I'm not unhappy about that. I've had no issues launching or running apps, and really, no issues yet except that we were supposed to get back the ability to initiate the Voice Dialer from a BT headset like we could before the e911 update.

The other biggest reason to update, though, is to be able to use apps that require 1.6 and up.

These have been my experiences after the update, and if I've learned one thing with computing devices, they don't always act the same way, even though you might expect that they should.
