Update coming, but not 2.2

How do you apply this zip update once xda releases it?

well if its in update.zip format you just flash it in clockwork mod.

given that it looks like the DJ05 release is an Odin install, id imagine its possible 2.2 will be as well. the rest of the sgs world has been using odin for everything pretty much, we might as well join the party :D

(obviously im talking about leaks)

When it comes out, I'm sure ill be havin you hold my hand through it! lol

i will say this. Adrynalyne made the very good point that while we all are assuming this DJ05 update will be released the small, small possibility exists that it might not ever see the light of day and vzw will just roll this into the 2.2 update.

its been established that 2.1 u2 is a different radio. again the small chance exists that if you take the DJ05 leak when it comes out........and upgrade your radio............ and then DJ05 *doesnt* ever come out.............and the 2.2 update radio is just a patch of 2.1 u1..............then you could be screwed and either be stuck on 2.1 u2 or have issues with froyo (again there is a very, very, very small chance of this happening)

now apparently you can take the DJ05 leak and *not* updgrade the baseband but sms will not work (although you can get around this with gv).

now again this is all far and away worst case scenario things. but since im among the few that always advocates taking leaks, i should also point out the real risks involved. :o

that being said, im sure ill take the leak and as always take my chances :)

Won't we know sooner if it will interfere by whether or not this update goes OTA? I'm predicting that before a Froyo leak

DJ05 is 2.1-update1

also for those who care the leaked dj05 will be most likely an odin install not update.zip :)

FWIW, guys I can confirm the DJ05 is an odin flash not an update.zip. It will set you back to stock per se so you will lose root, you will return to all the bing and vzw stuff coming back, no roms since they're all DI01 based. Now re-root and de-bing only takes minutes for most of the seasoned vets reading this. The concern for me and the reason Im hesitating is CWM. You lose CWM but can put it back on but with DJ05 you will apparently lose haptic feedback with any DI01 built kernel. And you guys know me and kernels ;). Now birdman is working on the cwm fix so we'll see but as for now Im not odin flashing just yet.
Reports are good however, apparently GPS is now locking in in 5-10 seconds for people who used to have multi minute waits, so thats good for some of you/us. Swype seems to have been tweaked as well, for those of us who swype. This is second handed info of course as I havent flashed it myself.
Finally, its a bit weird, as everything I ever flashed in odin before was one thing at a time but this is a pit and tar simultaneous dual flash. But whatever. I loaded them both in but never hit start myself, I made the wise decision not to flash it yet. And now hearing the initial reports I think I will continue to wait and see what the braintrust comes up with this afternoon. I like my snappy uv kernels too much to get a gps boost when I dont even use the gps. Im sure I will flash it as soon as I get confirmation cwm is good to go.

btw, if you couldnt tell by my implications yes I have the DJ05 package, it fell off a truck, not sure who else has it too nitsuj17?

DJ05 plays nice with the Stupid Fast kernels ;)

And yes, the GPS fix is working well.

I see you were standing by the same truck I was ;)
How's the haptic? That was the concern and my reason for hesitation.
Any other problems? If you say haptic is gtg I'll flash it on right now

I'm not sure on the haptic. It's enabled in the settings but it's not working. I can't remember if I shut it off somewhere else.

I don't like haptic anyways so it doesn't matter to me.
