Update on the Official Phandroid Application

So i'm just noticing that links posted open in the phan app with newest market update.
Doesn't work perfectly, doesn't seem to be an easy way to 'back' out of whatever webpage was opened with out backing out of the thread as well.
Its kinda weird, all pages open without leaving the app.... well it's definitely not the stock browser.. still got phan app controls on bottom.. no address bar on top.. clicked on af link in thread though and it appears to open in app it still looks like regular browser page instead of phanapp theme....

anyone else play with it?
 
Has anyone managed to successfully theme this app yet?

I managed to swap out all the .pngs needed and even edit the xml files to give a black backgroud and white text, signed etc... Installs fine too, but then just force closes after a little while, without being able to do anything

Unfortunately there are so many references to bg and text colour within the xml's, theres no way around editing them. Once I got past all the errors recompiling, Still no Joy :(

Its unbelievable just how desperate I am to get this black themed for better battery life. But after 3 hours of messing around, I have to stop - defeated.

you have a desire.. non-amoled screen. right?

how does back screen help with battery? as I understand it. ta whiter screen saves you more energy. the Backlight must be on .. the whole time for the whole screen; at the brightness that you want it to be. so, now that you want it black.. the LCD must put out more power to create a darker, thicker image to block out the bright color of the backlight.

so.. black screen does not help battery, but i do want a black screen to better reading in the dark..

What extra power it has to do to get black.. I am not sure if it is that big of a power drain.. the LCD part of it.

cant wait to see your work.. hope you get it figured out.

Indeed you are right. My desire is a AMOLED version where black pixels.are off pixels :)
 
So ever since updating the App it always sorts alphabetically I believe and I have to go and manually sort by last post every single time I use the app. Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I see others are having this issue as well. Does anyone have the apk for the old version?

Please bear in mind this is a beta build. Also.. the UI will get a makeover in the future.

Rob will make an official announcement in the coming days on Phandroid.com, but for now here are a couple notes from myself:

- There are two widgets included. On the news widget you can tap the article icon to cycle through articles. Tap article name to read it.
- You can adjust the updating interval of the widgets in the preferences.
- You can star news articles and then use the built in filter to view them later.
- When in the forum portion of the application, press your menu key and log in. You will then be notified of private messages, be able to view your subscribed threads, and have access to other forums you may have rights too, etc. You can turn off PM notifications in the preferences.
- When in the IRC Chat room you will be notified of conversation in your notification bar as well. Please be polite. I do not want to have to turn it into a moderated chat environment. We will if we need to, though, and that will be much less fun.

If you have a QR code on your phone's browser, just click on it and it will take you to the site (the market in this case)

NightAngel's advice is if you SEE a QR code in the paper, tv or your laptop, if you open up the app (barcode scanner) then it will scan the barcode with your camera and take you to the site on your phone :)
 
I think I just found a glitch. If I'm writing a reply to a forum and I lock the phone, when I unlock and continue the message the keyboard doesn't work. Or rather, the keys respond to me tapping but no text appears and the cursor won't move. Managed to repeat the problem a few times this morning.

Would be interesting to see if you can rule out other apps (such as XDA forums app) to see if its the rom or the app too.
 
Strange...seems to be working fine now after unlocking. Likely a phone or app glitch rather than a bug. I'm using the Touch Input keyboard which is identical to the stock HTC from Sense. I changed the KB then changed back to Touch, that may have refreshed it.
 
i have not updated since the first release on the market..
with all the issues ... that have been stated here.

waiting for a good release.

Hmm other than the occasional 'error' when trying to open a thread and the threads being displayed by default in alphabetical order it was near flawless. I'm assuming the thread issue was fixed, it never happened like that when you use the 'subscribed' tab so i haven't checked yet. Also haven't had any of the 'error' when trying to open a thread, granted it's only been a few hours
 
After downloading the update, News and Chat worked but I got "Error" whenever I tried to open the Forums. It started working again 24hrs later, could have been a Forum server problem maybe? App seems fine now.
 
Look at all of the 1 Star reviews in the Market over the past two to three days, including mine. WTF did you do to the app to cause it to not load content? Or did you change something on your server that is the root cause?

It' took me a long time just to find this thread to post to - perhaps you can create a forum for your own app for support?

I'm still using version 2.2 because of what I've read about the 'upgrades'. It works well. I hope they can fix up the newer one, it's a shame that it isn't right. The app is such a wonderful way to stay in touch.

Been getting "error" whenever I try to get into "suggestion box & feedback" via my favourites in the app. Been happening for the last 2 days, yet my other faves are fine.

Anyone else having this?
