Root [Updated] Automated All Bloatware Removal v2.4 (LG Motion 4G rooted)

Sepero

Linux Guru
CREDITS: Many thanks goes to slipkn0t2012 for doing an excellent job on the original version 1 script! This update has been made a bit safer by not removing some apps that shouldn't be deleted. Also, it can be run directly on your phone, without requiring a connection to your pc. The code has been greatly cleaned up and I invite anyone inspect it.

WARNING: Use any software remover with caution. The files are deleted permanently. Here is the guide for reflashing your firmware if needed:
http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-...rick-lg-motion-unroot-getting-1-5ghz-kdz.html

STEPS TO USE:

This Guide requires your phone is ROOTED. It will delete many files that generally do not come with a stock Android phone.

  1. Download the script remove_bloat.sh to your phone.
  2. Download Script Manager from the google play store.
  3. Start Script Manager.
  4. When Script Manager asks for Root Permissions, grant yes allow.
  5. Navigate to the remove_bloat.sh file and tap on it to see a menu.
  6. Select the top icon labeled "Su"
  7. Press the button on the top-left that says "Run".

The script will run, and immediately reboot your phone. Once your phone turns back on, all the unnecessary pre-installed apps will have been deleted.

You can download a copy of all deleted files from here: bloat_backup.zip

lol. That's pretty cool you got it to work from the phone. The script i have up works though, just used it last night. Twice. Ill be online more though. Kick ass though man! Bo computer needed

@slipkn0t2012
Ah yeah, sorry about that. I misread your original thread and thought you changed the instructions. I'm glad you approve of this post. You really did good in getting all the parts together. Too much reflashing for me, you really deserve the thanks. With all of that info collected, I only needed to take the script and give it a nice clean up (and get rid of the adb garbage, I hate that stuff lol).

Now it's a much smaller download, no adb junk, no Microsoft exe files, and no computer needed. An Android device is it's own computer. :D

Only these apps should be removed:

All those hidden menus are important.even if it didn't crash the phone, the metro stores use the hidden menus to reprogram the MDN (mobile directory number or your phone number) and MIN (Mobile Identification Number) which they will reprogram if your metro account was deactivated for over a month.

Hi;

I'm trying to re-install the hidden menu files on my phone, particularly the Metrohiddenmenu one.
When I try to install the apk file it gives me a "application not installed" message.
I saw you gave the location of the files ("From location /system/app/"), but I cannot find it on the phone.
Pardon my ignorance, I've been trying to search the forums but cannot find the answer yet, so I figured I'd ask.

Thank you so much in advance!!!

Thanks slipkn0t2012 for the link!

I've followed the instructions to the T, but still I cannot access the MetroPCS menu.
I pasted all files to /system/app and I see them there, however they don't seem to be installed? I looked for them in TitaniumBu, the Metro one in particular, and don't see it listed. I do however see it listed all the way at the bottom of the list, slashed out as if it was uninstalled. The name is com.lge.metropcshiddenmenu
I've tried uninstalling TBUp just in case it was tied to it somehow, but nothing.

Basically I'm trying to reprogram my wife's phone due to picture text and mms not working and I need to get to this menu to do it.

If this file installation doesn't work, is there another option? like un bricking? I tried a factory reset already and didn't fix either of my issues.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

yes following the unbrick guide will bring the hidden menus back

Hi, could you please please upload:

IMandSocial.apk
MemoWidget.apk
ApplicationManager.apk

These are actually pretty useful light apps that I use daily, specially the IMandSocial, because I hate the free and paid alternatives in Google Play.

Please please, upload those :(

Thanks for your hard work!

@daydreamingby
Hey friend, thanks for writing your concerns. I decided to do you one better, and I uploaded all the files deleted by this script. That way if anyone else also wants to get back the deleted files, then it's all there.

bloat_backup.zip

Also, I made another update to the script to correct some typos left over from version 1. Cheers

Sweet! Thanks very much!!!

Wondering if anyone can help me out

I want this app back

So I can select a live wallpaper, I have tried looking for an alternative but apparently it doesnt exist.

NativeLiveWallpapersPicker.apk
NativeLiveWallpapersPicker.odex

How do I go about doing this?
I have tried putting them in system/app and changing permissions rw/r/r with no luck
Also tried following the tutorial slipkn0t2012 linked to put the hidden menus in there, didnt work either.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

@warock56
I'm not sure what is wrong. It appears that the files you are looking for should be located here:
/system/app/NativeLiveWallpaper.apk
/system/app/NativeLiveWallpaper.odex
/system/apps/bootup/NativeLiveWallpaper.apk

After you replace them, perhaps try restarting your phone.

Have tried restarting numerous times with no luck

the apk in apps/bootup it lets me install it, saying it will replace another application, installs successfully.

the one in app folder does not let me install it, just says application not installed.

Since my parents both bought this phone (I rooted, debloated their phones) my mom was the one that wanted the live wallpaper thing, I guess she'll have to live without it.

One thing I havent tried is another launcher, dont know if it will make a difference but my hopes are low, I will try and report.

edit: nop, didnt work. tried home, apex, and nova, none of them let me do it.
Although in the home and apex launcher I got 3 options (Gallery, Wallpaper gallery, and wallpaper) Nova only gives me the first two. Anyways thanks for trying to help me, I didnt know there was another apk in the bootup folder.

sad face

It just doesn't seem like this was well thought out a lot that was removed is actually pretty still useful. One example when I visit McDonalds metro easy wifi automatically connects me. Or do prefer another alternative app for that since it's considered bloatware here.

1 of the most useful apps or features on my phone is voice to text especially when I'm in the car you combine that with SwiftKey keyboard plus the voice to text feature and it makes 1 awesome phone is specially when you're in the car and to remove the voice to text and consider that bloatware?

Hey Donte559, I'm sorry you're not happy with the script here. To connect to McD wifi, you would just use the normal builtin wifi settings.

The purpose of the bloat remover is to generally remove everything (LG/MetroPCS/Google) preinstalled that is unnecessary for basic functioning of the device. Anything non-standard to most Android devices. When you say "a lot that was removed is actually pretty still useful", you're 100% correct. Every app that is removed is useful to somebody somewhere.

This is why I include a full list of what is removed, so you can see everything in advance before going through with it. Also, I uploaded the zip file containing all removed apps, so a person should be able to restore their system. If you have suggestions for improvement, I'm completely open to hearing them.

I appreciate your thoughts.

I tried to clarify/quantify in the previous post, the criteria for why something is removed. If there is anything being removed that is standard to most Android ICS systems (voice to text?), then things should definitely be changed.

Like I said, I'm completely open to suggestions.

The script is awesome I'm not bashing the work at all I love it is just some things are actually very useful and not consider bloatware just in my opinion but I can gratulations you in all that you do the script is very good work
