Root [Updated] Automated All Bloatware Removal v2.4 (LG Motion 4G rooted)

I think user dictionary may only work for the stock keyboard (not swype and others). Has anyone noticed a lack of dictionary functionality after running the bloat remover? If yes, then perhaps that should be left on the system also.

I'm not running this until you know what every app does. I have my phone exactly how I want it :p

But seriously, you really should consider finding out which app is which and the purpose behind it before removing them (even if this is originally someone elses script).

My opinion on the bloatware:
LG apps are amazing!
MetroPCS bloatware sucks (as always).

I am actually using the stock backup app instead of CWM. Why? Cause it backups just about everything anyways and it has scheduled backups :D

Sammyz what's your setup... bloat removed, scripts, build props, launcher, etc that you find works best for you. I used the updated bloat removal here, stock, rooted, adrenaline injector, nova launcher and seeder app p... running like a champ over here.

The phone is already fast, I only removed metropcs bloatware :p

Also seeder app has been proven nothing but problems, I recommend uninstalling it.

Hey, I wouldn't blame ya. The Motion has so much internal space that I'd be fine with just freezing most undesired apps. :)

The bloat remover script is for those people that want to rip out all traces of anything unnecessary, and a lot of people seem to want that choice. This version 2 script is designed to give them that choice in a (more) safe manner.

I agree completely, and it is one of the reasons why I created this thread. I wanted to make the whole process cleaner and safer.

Tokenpoke said, "Quick tip... open the file as text, delete the names of files you want to keep. BAM!!! Custom bloat melter!!!! :D". One of the big goals for version 2 was the ability to do what Tokenpoke did right there. So if there's anything you want to keep, it only takes a small bit of editing.

Unfortunately, I can't find out everything about every app by myself, so in order to improve the script, I've tried to keep a very open dialog with everyone in this thread. This thread is 100% welcome to any criticisms. The script will never be perfect for everyone, but with smart input from helpful people, it can be made really good for most who want it.

Hello, I can't install ApplicationManager.apk like I did before... I un-rooted, upgraded to MS77010e and rooted again, and debloated again, but I can't reinstall ApplicationManager.apk like I did before...

It just says "application not installed".

Any help?

To restore apps, you have to download the backup of all deleted apps: bloat_backup.zip

Extract that file, then using a program like Root Explorer, you have to move the files back to the original place. For example, to restore ApplicationManager.apk-

Copy both the files ApplicationManager.apk ApplicationManager.odex to the folder location /system/app/

Thank you, last time all I did was install the apk, but I went ahead and installed ES Explorer anyways, granted root permissions, but both .apk, and odex files can't be copied to /system/app. I get the message "ApplicationManager.odex can not be moved!" When I cut/paste it into that folder.

Sorry, nevermind, I was able to do it by selecting that "Mount" option on Root Settings...

Anyways, so I got them both in the "App" folder, and restarted the device... both are there, but I can't select the application manager as a widget or as an app... it doesn't show anywhere I look.

My phone is rooted, and I followed the instructions completely. But when it got to the part where the script was supposed to run, it just froze and never rebooted my phone. Now my phone seems to be ok, except that I cannot use any app. They all stop or have errors. What should I do now?

Thanks in advance :)

*Edit
Apparently I am an idiot and my phone is not rooted. I followed the rooting instructions, but I guess it didn't take. Help me?

Did you install drivers??

The Car Home offers great GPS. I don't know why that would be included as BW. The stock metro navigator is way worse.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Car Home just use Google Maps and Google Navigation? Car Home doesn't seem to be anything more than a app with shortcuts to other apps.

It's not bloatware though. And it can be useful if you're in a car and driving.

The application may rely on another application to work. I honestly don't know. You may also have to set the permissions on the files to 644 (or read/write + read + read)

If you've done all that and ApplicationManager still doesn't work for you, then you have 2 options-

  1. Restore everything from the zip file to it's original locations.
  2. Or use the unbrick/unroot guide to restore your system.

I personally would never use the Car Home app, and I would say it generally fits the definition of bloatware for these reasons-

  1. It's oversized for it's functionality, roughly 1MB to simply provide an uncustomizable screen of shortcuts.
  2. It can easily be replaced by having a desktop space with the same shortcuts.
  3. It's not standard to most Android ICS systems.

Now that's just my opinion, but I'm definitely not trying to be a hard nose about the situation. I can see this app being useful to some people.

I will edit the remover script to leave Car Home app installed if there is demand for it.

First, I followed this root guide:
http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-all-things-root/611262-i-found-root-guys.html
However, when I finished, it didn't occur to me to check to see that the root took.

Then I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-...-removal-version-2-4-lg-motion-4g-rooted.html
And after the script froze, I rebooted and none of my apps would work.

So after doing some searching on what to do, I did a factory reset on my phone and everything seems to be fine.

Now, I need to try to root again, but I have no idea why it didn't work.

Will this remove the memo app? I'm asking because I use it to write things all the time and right now I don't have a way to back up anything I've written on there, also if you can recommend an app for writing on my phone (like a msword port or something) I'd appreciate it :)

Evernote is great because it backs everything up on their servers when you sync it.

Successfully executed Script.

E-Mail application was not removed, along with MetroPCS Web Browser and MetroPCS Application store. (Manually removed using ES Explorer)

Thank you for all the hard work you have put into this Sepero.

This is gonna sound dumb, but I was able to do it before with success, but I just tried CM10, and went back to stock debloated, and I can't remember how I got ApplicationManager.apk to work in the past LOL, I keep getting "Aplicattion not installed" no matter what I try :(

I was able to reinstall Memos.apk by just moving it, but no success with ApplicationMAnager :(
