upgrade tomorrow!

Hey everyone! My upgrade is tomorrow and i've got the tbolt in my sights. I have a DROID x now and personally I hate Motorola a.d MOTOBLUR. Im excited to get the thunderbolt! My wife has the incredible 2 and she loves it. I think its a nice phone too and only hope the same for the thunderbolt! Now can I use ny DROID x screen covers on this? Since its the same screen size? Thanks in advance!

I doubt your screen cover will work. As for signing a 2 year contract for a 8 month old phone, You should wait and see what November has to offer!

Eh I don't really need to stay up with the most current. And for 149 you I can't beat it! And why a no go on the screen guards??

Nick, unless you are going to root, I would skip the thunderbolt. HTC and Verizon have yet to get this device right and I am beginning to think they never will. Each "update" fixes one issue and creates several more.

The nexus prime or HTC whatever could be 249, a hundred bucks more for a big difference in potential. As for the screen protector, not sure why you care about it, Thunderbolt has guerrilla glass i dont have a scratch on my screen in 9 months. I do have a big crack from a dog bite 3 months ago, still works perfect, the protector wasn't gonna stop that!

Don't listen to the 8 post troll...

I'd wait for November. There are a few dual core devices that are coming out. One device is reportedly being equipped with ICS (after Gingerbread). The reason I'm jumping on the Vigor/Rezound/Thunderbolt 2 when it comes out is I want to see if a dual core setup helps with this poor battery life on the Thunderbolt. If you really want a great deal on a Thunderbolt, wait until the new phones come out and get a great deal on someone dumping their phone for an upgrade. Oh and good luck getting unlimited 4G data.

I have 3 thunderbolts in my plan. I bought all of them through bestbuy and have the $10/m insurace. With that you take ur TB in wenever u have a scratch and theyll send u a new one in 3 days. The guys there even told me to throw it on the ground so they can just send me a new one. Just an option

I totally disagree, The begining was definatley a bumpy road for the t-bolt . Today my phone works pretty close to flawless. I you dont need the latest greatest thing then the T-bolt would actually be a good device to pick up. You have the droid x and thats another great device , but if you get the 4g tbolt then its definatly worth the upgrade because 4g is worth it.

poor battery life for the tbolt ? that was a long time ago. get the extended battery and never look back. I never can get my battery to zero in a 24 hr period and I use the hell out of my phone. as a matter of fact I rarley get it below 35%

Thunderbolt is a great phone, there are a couple of issues with the Gingerbread update, but before that, Verizon/HTC has it running pretty solid. IMO the best phone on Verizon as of your upgrade date. Again like most other people said, there are a couple coming out in a month or so however that are to die for (well, in my case, pay full retail for anyways).

I would suggest waiting until the release of the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Nexus Prime of whatever the hell it's being called. Even if you don't get the new Samsung, the fact that it has been released could drive the price of the Thunderbolt down.

I would go with the Bolt over any other phone out now if waiting for the Prime or the next latest and greatest does not interest you. Battery life is much better now with Gingerbread and the latest Radio. I saw a pretty big improvement. So you want to make sure it is running GB or Root it immediately. Rooting this phone is super easy and makes it soooo much better.
BTW the Bolt does not have Gorilla Glass as stated above. The screen is pretty tough, but not as much as the Gorilla Glass and there is always a chance for a scratch.

As for the question on the screen protector...yes the screen size is the same, BUT...depending on the protector you get, the size would still be different. Some protectors only cover the rectangle of the visable screen. Some go to edge of the phone altogether. Plus the X I believe the corners aren't as rounded as the Bolt. You could always trim your X protectors, but really, they're cheap enough just to buy the correct ones and be done with it. Some people have different opinions on them, but I always use them. Rarely have I seen one cause more harm than potential good.

So I love my Thunderbolt, though it did have a bumpy start. Upgrades have gone a long way toward making it the phone it was sold to be, and rooting and ROMs have taken it the rest of the way. All that said, I'm sure you can get a better deal than $149. Have you checked Wirefly? Also, wasn't Verizon doing a one cent deal?

You've waited this long you might as well wait another month there's 3 new phones coming out in November, I have the TBolt & it sux from day one. This is my 1st time getting HTC & the last, my contract is up in December so good bye VZW & HTC you guys have done nothing for us TBolt owners. You should have given us the option to upgrade to something else. I'm jumping ship & i'm outta here in December.

i have had 4 android phones in the last year (OG droid, Droid X, Inc 2 and TB) and the TB is the best one yet. the only negative i have towards it is the battery life, but i bought an extra battery and charging dock (for a total of $15 off amazon) and its not even a concern any more.

although the TB is 8 months old, it is still a great phone, and even better when it is rooted.
i would personally wait for another month and a half especially if the DX is still working fine, but if you really need a new phone ASAP, the TB is a great alternative especially at the price.

No matter what you do, you'll have a phone that will have SOME issues, whether it be minor or major. What phone doesn't? Granted, the Thunderbolt has had more than it's fair share, but mine has been solid for me and I've really enjoyed owning it. Still, with that being said, I'd wait just to see what options the new phones will have.

Next month phones like the Razr will come out. The TB will definitely drop.

Below are some specs.

Motorola's Razr to return as an Android phone - latimes.com

Verizon and Motorola announced the new Razr phone Tuesday that will run on Google's Android Gingerbread operating system and join the carrier's Droid line of devices.

Motorola also said that it will be "the world's thinnest 4G smartphone," at 7.1-millimeters thick.

A 4.3-inch touchscreen is out front while the back of the new Razr will be made of kevlar with an integrated battery -- meaning you can't remove this power pack.

The new Razr also features a front facing camera, an 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p video, a 1.2-gigahertz dual core processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage (16 gigabytes built-in and another 16 gigabytes on an included microSD card).

The rebooted Razr looks nothing like the original line of flip phones that sold millions of units from 2004 to 2007 and still rank among Motorola's biggest mobile gadget hits. But resurrecting the old Razr brand should bring back a bit of nostalgia for what was the last blockbuster seller before smartphones captured consumers' attention with the BlackBerry, the iPhone and later Androids.

The Droid Razr will hit Verizon stores in early November at a price of $300 on a new two-year contract.

The original razr was a huge success. What almost killed motorola was the fact that they didn't follow it up with anything. The buzz was that they sat on their laurels while others were innovating.

That Razr looks cool, but IMO the non-removable battery is a deal-breaker. Plus HTC phones rock, no reason to go to Motorola at this point.

FWIW I love my TB. I'm rooted, running CM7. Battery life sucks, I bought a couple of spares for <$20.

That's what I was thinking. I remember everyone had to own one when it came out and they flaunted it around like they were badasses.

As far as the no removable battery, it's supposed to be a 1700 mAh and I bet someone will find a way to get the phone opened for a battery swap. Even if you don't think you'll get this phone I'd wait until it's released to see where the price of the TB goes, be it new or used.
