Upgrades from DX

kgkg

Newbie
Hi all,

Currently I am DX user. I am entitled to get a new phone in a few weeks because I signed a 1-year contract when purchasing DX.

Can anyone recommend a new phone to me? The thing I like about DX is its reception and call quality. I dislike blur and constant rebooting.

I used HTC Incredible, but its reception is bad and voice is "garbled". However, I like Sense much more than blur. Hopefully, there is a "Sense" phone with good reception and voice quality.

Any suggestion?

I've got my eye on the Bionic whenever its going to get released. With the way the thunderbolt keeps getting pushed back who knows it might be released at the same time.

Constant rebooting is not an attribute of the Droid X. Either you have installed a glitchy app that is causing it or your phone is defective. You shouldn't put up with it either way; get it fixed.

Droid Incredible is a straight downgrade from the Droid X. The X is a generation ahead of the Incredible.

A ROM is a custom operating system install that you can replace what comes on the Droid X with. There are some pretty slick perks to them but I would absolutely not recommend a novice mess with it. I would do significant reading and ask questions before doing rom flashes.

Thunderbolt isn't much of an upgrade from the Droid X. Slightly better 1Ghz CPU. Has a weaker GPU than the Droid X. Has under 2GB of app storage when the Droid X has ~7GB. Lower resolution screen than the Droid X. Probably less battery life than the Droid X. Thunderbolt edges out the X in a few areas such as RAM, front facing camera, included microSD card size, and LTE support, but I wouldn't call it a enough to spend $200 on for someone who already has an X since it doesn't outdo the X in a lot of areas.

The only things that I would go from an X to on Verizon that are coming in the near future are the Droid Bionic and possibly the Samsung Stealth. The Thunderbolt is more of a refined Evo(X is already better than the Evo) than a next generation phone.

Thanks dguy. I do not want to spend extra money every month on LTE data. How's Samsung Stealth compared to DX?

The Stealth is largely a mystery at this point. Rumors have it being a dual core processor and having a 4.3 inch super amoled plus screen. It could end up being amazing. It would be LTE however. Verizon hasn't announced LTE smartphone pricing plans yet, it could very well be competitive with current 3G pricing. AT&T and T-Mobile's 4G options do not cost extra, only Sprint's does.

The X2 is supposed to be an X with a tegra2 and bionic screen, or a bionic without ff camera and 4g if you want to think of it that way.

If you have an X...just hold onto it for a tiny bit more when the good she0t hits the fan.

I bought a new X (2 gb version) last week and I'm within my 14 day return period. I've had 3 random reboots so far. I'm going to uninstall a few of the last apps I installed to see if that makes any difference. There are alot of reports of rebooting. But maybe there are just some apps that don't play well with the X?

as of right now, the DX is still the best phone on verizon. the thunderbolt will be a great phone as long as 4G pricing isn't any more than the 3g pricing. the T-bolt comes with 8GB internal and a 32 SD card, same size and resolution screen the DX has, and more RAM....it is a pretty good upgrade to the X IMO...not sure where that guy got his info from.

then there is the bionic, Stealth, and LG revolution...all 4g phones supporting a FF camera, and better processors than the DX. i believe the stealth will be duel core and have a 480x800 superAMOLED plus screen, the Bionic WILL be duel core, FF camera, and higher resolution screen (960x5xomething)
and the revolution is kinda a mystery also

as far as the DX2, i think that was just the 2gb version as some store has a flyer about it....same as the DX but a 2gb SD card instead of a 16GB.

then there is the incredible 2 which is pretty much a mystery as well.

if i were you,i would wait a while, as some pretty awesome phones are on their way and the DX is still a GREAT phone. FWIW, i had random reboot issues.....i have since rooted and installed a ROM (apex 1.4.1) and i havn't had a random reboot since.

From the articles I've read, LTE data plans will be capped, not unlimited. Faster is nice, but I don't want to have to worry about going over my data limit.

I'm sorry, I'm not here to doubt you but I'm having a hard time with this... you said you signed a 1 year contract when you bought your DX last year and you'll be able to upgrade in a few weeks... but the DX was released in July. Even if you could get your phone 2 months early you'd still have to wait until the middle of May. I'm just trying to figure out how you are able to get a new phone this early???
