Help User Reviews of The HTC EVO 4G LTE

I'm a bit late to the party, but my first impression when I got this phone was HOLY SHIZ, it's light. Even with my case this phone seems a ton lighter than my 3VO without a case. Next was wow, what a screen. Next was WOW, this thing is super buttery smooth. I'm an infiniti car guy and I remember when the G series hit, Car and Driver loved the platform, but would always say they still need to pick up on refinement. Even though the guts of the vehicles were uber solid the refinement was lacking in comparison to the BMW line. This is the leap I felt when I picked up the LTEVO. This device has the refinement that the 3VO lacked. My only issues have been some stuttering when listening to tunes through head phones on the subsonic music app and some scetchy reception at times. The reception is more the network than the phone though. Put blunty, I won't be changing out this device for a long while.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The only big issue I had with the EVOLTE was the intermittent wifi but that has been taken care of by the selection of best wifi in the advanced tab. Even call quality is better that OGEVO and my 3G can be horrible if not roaming on another network. I don't plan on getting rid of this still not sure on root yet.

nova awesome pics....

Love my EVO 4G LTE. Did my research as I was contemplating getting the Samsung Galaxy S3. Wish the guys at the Sprint store did their research as none of them knew anything about either phone. I loved my original EVO 4G as I thought that blew everything out of the water but this phone goes far beyond my expectations so far. Now I hope they can get LTE service in San Diego before next year. I love the battery life so far as I have had it on wifi for most of the day and it's only dropped 15%. Love the screen and kickstand for netflix.

I got mine at Best Buy.
Sad part is they didn't even have one for display because of the preorders (I was one of them) and Apple's litigation causing the hold at customs.

Looks like I'll be keeping my original release day Evo 4G a little longer. I was excited to get new technology and purchased the LTE Evo yesterday but I returned it in less than 24 hours. I like some aspects of it especially the snappy response and the screen quality. But the main issue for me is that it is significantly wider and much taller than the original Evo 4G and cannot easily be used one handed like the original, at least with my hand.

I also hate the battery charger on the top left instead of the bottom. I can't use it plugged in at my desk as it pulls to the left from the cord now. And I especially detest the button layout. Only a back and home button way over on the bottom left plus a last app button that I never would use on the right. I simply cannot reach across the device one-handed with my right thumb to swipe the top of the screen down or hit back or home easily. It really requires two hands to do most tasks at this size.

There were also some other issues that I could have probably worked out like the fact that it also couldn't connect to my Wifi like my Evo 4G easily does. And the fact that some of my most important apps like Calendar Pad worked really wonky on the LTE Evo for some reason.

Overall, I feel that they just changed too many aspects of the form and user interface from the Evo 4G. I miss my menu button and long presses. The UI does vaguely resemble the Sense that my OG Evo runs but it's so different in functionality that I may as well have no loyalty to HTC whatsoever and try out the Galaxy S III or whatever new device comes down the pike soon. I'm sure I will need to upgrade at some point this year or next at the latest because my Evo 4G is almost out of internal space for apps and it now seems slow compared to newer smartphones at this point. But I hope there are better options for me soon.

PS- Not to mention I have a chance in certain neighborhoods right now to get 4G Wimax with my current Evo 4G. Who knows when LTE will be available in Fort Lauderdale? There probably will be three or four new models of high end Android smart phones on Sprint before then anyway that I can use my restored upgrade eligibility on.

ok.. well I have had this thing for 1 day now and here are a few issues..
1) phone will not do ANYTHING when a call is coming in. this realllly sucks and I do not understand why it is doing this.. if I am doing something and the phone rings it goes to phone and will not leave till caller hangs up..
2) productivity lock screen does not show anything but my calendar items. no calls no email no txt messages.. anyone else using this or can other try it and see if it works for them. all other lock screens work fine..
3)sometimes it seems like multitasking works and other times it seems like it reloads the application. I know this has been discussed but I have not seen anyone saying it ever works and I have gotton it to switch between apps without reloading
4)I went outside in the bright sun and USED MY PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OWOWWOWOW I loooooveed it. my evo forget it.. you couldnt see it if your life depeneded on it. nice nice
5)I like the look and feel of the case but honestly it looks sooo polished I am afraid it is gonig to get all scratched and look like crap.
6)I wish you could change the buttons on the screen.. I actually would prefer something like what seperate launcher programs use with the scollable bar but I could live with 4 if I could change them..

Now my question.. what things would be different if I went with the s3 when it came out????

I've merged your posts over here, you're not alone. :) ;)

Both this phone and the SGS3 are very good, if you're not happy with the one, maybe the other is for you.

We have a 10 page thread on Evo vs the SGS3, but maybe this is a good starting point for comparisons, it's a video review of the international models (close enough to the Sprint models, even if not identical) -

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g...nions-gsiii-vs-evo-4g-lte-10.html#post4508258

We're definitely noticing the multitasking change here -

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/555765-any-issues-multitasking-htc-evo-4g-lte.html

As far as remapping buttons, we have a very active developer community already, so if you're ok with rooting, all sorts of button customizations are possible. Personally, I've removed the on-screen 3-dot bar at the bottom, long-press on Home brings up Menu, long press on Multitasking brings up a widget screen including Google search - so that's all configurable if you're rooted and there are plenty of options.

The lock screen has changed so that only apps in your homescreen dock appear, you can't change it with the stock lockscreen to include all of the preferred apps or widgets as in the earlier Sense version.

Welcome to the LTEvo forum, hope this helps some! :)

Unless you play with the SG3 in store, the in-depth video reviews found in the compare and contrast thread will have to do. You have to keep in mind those reviews are for the International versions.

I have used Nova launcher (free) and it allowed me to keep my lock screen shortcuts separate from my home shortcuts at the bottom. Unfortunately, any Sense widgets will not be useable with Nova as default. I only played with it a bit from last week.

I also use the Productivity lock screen. Go to lock screen styles then settings. You can assign what can be displayed on your calendar (tasks, holidays, your acctA calendar, your acctB calendar) on the lockscreen.

So let me get this straight. The HTC EVO 4G LTE is too wide and long for you and seem to be an issue for you but you want to try the Samsung S3.? I'm guessing you have not checked or see the comparisons between these two phones? Well good luck with your decision.

Yeah. The S3 does have a bigger screen. So, it may be a bit taller than the evo lte.

I "soft rooted" (I know you hate that but I can't think of how you wanted it mentioned), if I go full root and install Fresh, will I lose all my data and lay out that I've laid out?

I did go to settings and told it to show all email, all texts and all missed calls and all it shows is the stupid calendar..

I am a tad comfused though.. I was told you cannot change the buttons that are on the screen. you know where it has the phone text and message and apps button.. well my husband still has his 3d and installed ice cream sandwhich on it and he came in and showed me you just drag them off and drag something else on. so I tried it and it worked.. so there is one bad thing solved.. :)
dunno why osmeone said you cannot chamge them.. only thing you apparently cannot change is the apps button...
yah the inability for seperate launchers to use sense widgets is the main reason I have never used a seperate launcher.. well that and having 2 launchers installed taking up all that memory seems a waste..

The process will lose it, but you can save and restore most all of it (depending on rom differences).

I used to be pretty good at using Titanium Backup for saving my apps and data as well as my Sense settings, but I'm rusty on it myself.

Please ask the gang here - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...0-0-1-13-651-1-initial-release-read-more.html

They can square you away on that, some of those cats have forgotten more than I've known. :)

PS - one of the guys that came up with that term agreed with my rant, he's posted in my root rant thread above. :D

Hope that helps!

If it was my remarks on the buttons, I was referring the hard buttons, sorry if I caused any confusion. :o

I agree, it's pretty cool to be able to drag whatever you want in and out of the dock! :)

The four favorites next to the apps button can be changed but on the 3D you had them on your lock screen and could change which 4 you wanted. On the new EVO which ever four you have on your home screen also are the same four on your lock screen and you can't change the ones on your lock screen to be different from the ones on your home screen. But there is an option to not have them show up on the lock screen. But I switched to the other lock screen and all I see is the calendar only too and that sucks. I didn't know we even had that lock screen as an option and I was thinking that's cool I'm gonna try it and all I see is the calendar also.

I just went back to the productivity lock screen and touched messages and all and hit apply and now I only see messages and not the calendar? I am wondering if you can only have it show one and not all. I would like to see all. Unless I'm not doing something right.

To anybody that has played high end games extensively on their Evo, how does the adreno 225 hold up? I'm really on the fence about jumping on this generation of phones or holding out for the quad core s4 chips with the adreno 320 that should be coming out later this year.

Well at least I am not alone on this :).. but the example shows all at the same time so I highly doubt that's it but I am going to play some more and see if I can get it to show msgs..

You're never alone in this subforum. If no one asks, then no one will learn.

I don't have too many events in my calendar this week, which is why my lockscreen isn't so busy. Incoming SMS messages are shown as expected on my lockscreen.

I will play with it when I get the chance. So far the productivity lockscreen is doing what I expected.

Ex: letting me know flag day was yesterday or something and finally went away.

Awaiting patiently in the Sprint Store for my early upgrade, I

Thanks for the review. You put a lot of effort in it and it is much appreciated.

I remember you mentioning you will be getting the GS3 as well, so I'm looking forward to that review :)

Your 3G speeds are 2-4 times faster than mine.

I also want to mention (since I don't think anyone else mentioned it yet) that when viewing a previously recorded video, you can view the video again and capture photo shots from that same video. So you don't have to capture photos AND record at the same time.

I went back to it and somehow I got my text and calendar to show up. I don't have any calendar entries now but I do see my text show up. Haven't had a missed call show up and I tried to call myself the other day to test it but it didn't show up. Oh and meails aren't showing up neither but text were.

Well at least I am not alone on this :).. but the example shows all at the same time so I highly doubt that's it but I am going to play some more and see if I can get it to show msgs..

I did it. I made a freaking decision and went to BB and bought the LTE. I am very impressed so far. I love how Thin it is ..wow. I also am a huge fan of the voice to text, it is awesome how it transcribes while you are talking. I need to figure out if I will root or not, but if I do, I think I want a stock ics setup if possible, and something that is very battery efficient.

The kick stand is supposed to twist, but I have not figured it out yet. I really underestimated how amazing getting a new phone is because this thing is just miles above any phone I have seen so far. Also, the gps locked on for me on the drive home, so the initial impression is good. I am charging the phone now and need to configure it to my liking, and download all the apps again. Stoked to finally be able to use the chrome browser and have real battery life for once.

The widget setup is so much better..just the way you can build your screens from the one screen is genius. Currently downloading is very slow on 3G, so I am hopping to wifi. This phone is really great so far on my initial impression.
