Root Using Netarchy kernel on Fresh 3.2... Insane battery drain...

yea, its paid, i think it was 2 bucks or something, try the unpaid its still good.

also you have tried back to stock with root correct? I am wondering with unrooting, if the process of wiping everything and reflashing cleared the issue or if it was just the going back to stock rom...

Currently on Stock, Rooted. Not too horrible. About 10% per half an hr drain. Better than 30% per hr. This should give my phone about a 4 hr life + 8 or so hrs of standby per day. Sounds about right for a stock battery? If so I am just gonna get the extended and stop thinking about battery completely.

Does un-rooting also revert the PRI version to the original? I have 1.77 and I am not sure if that is also a cause of problems as talking on the phone consumes battery quite a bit.

Does applying the OTA patch unroot and restore the phone? Or should I unroot it first? I am concerned that by not unrooting my battery issues will only be propagated.

Ok: Wiped phone (data, cache, dalvik), unrooted, booted, updated to OTA update, used unrevoked3 to 1-click root, and tomorrow we shal see the battery life. Maybe it'll be good.

Ok, wow, battery drain is worse with the stock + ota. Could be because I cleared dalvik cache before unrooting? I don't know have to try again. The drain is about 3% per hr idle. And about 20%/hr. Also just turning on the phone results in battery drain-o-plenty.

Not Sure if this is going to help you out at all, but thought that I would post this because I have been reading up on your issue.

Below is what I have setup on my phone and if you need more details I can provide that when I have more time to devote. (ie: I am at work).

Right now as my phone is ideal I am getting about 16hr on a full battery. When I become a heavy user I get about 7-8hrs. Hope this helps and good luck.

same exact setup i am using

phone calls txts interwebz pretty much all day...bluetooth on 8-10 hours....

facebook and email twice an hour ...4-5 youtube videos...

pandora for 2 hours showing customers and my neighbor at work various aps..

the biggest thing I've learned...battery drain is app specific...

Tuesday all was well...great battery life...then I uploaded a bunch of picks over 3g to photobucket. battery went from 70% to 9% in a matter of 1 1/2 hrs or so

Interesting. Definately a bit heavier use than me. At that sort of use I am not quite sure I'd get 8 hrs. I need to test this weekend if my performance matches.

hey if you go to

menu.settings.about phone.battery use.cell stanby what is your time without signal?

77%

Granted during that time my wifi was on and mobile network off. And that was overnight. 10% drain overnight from 100% (and we know how it drains the first 5 or so %)

haha ok yeah that skews it quite a bit...1-2% with mobile network on seems to be the norm

When idle time is not in "****ed up something insane" mode (when clearing Dalvik cache) its stable. When active though I've seen bad (30+% per hr) and not so bad (10-15% per hr) trying to figure out why I can't get to the 10-15%. it always had something to do with the configuration of the system (which Kernel or which cache cleared with which recovery tool)

Yep, bought the extended battery also lol. I use my phone with pocket cloud and with the RDP over 3g just sucks the life outta the battery also. I just hope that the back case on the extended battery will fit in my seidio holster.... i may have to dremmel....

I am going to reroot this weekend. Just stock... we'll see what happens.

Ok so today's battery life:

6 hrs unplugged = 10% night time.
9 hrs of
- 1 hr listening to music, a bit of games, some internet usage, 30 min no service,
- A few IMs through fring and about 20 minute phone call
I am now at 33% battery.

Sounds reasonable or excessive drain?

So you have been unplugged 15 hrs with that usage and have 33% left? Seems reasonable. To me

I mean the phone should do better when mostly idle :P I'd think having >100 hrs idle time. I guess they mean idle as going into airplane mode turning off screen, underclocking, and turning every single background service off. But I guess this might sound reasonable.

4+ days of battery life? I can't think of a similar type device with that gets that kind of battery life. Heck, my laptop, which has a much bigger battery won't live off of battery that long

Yea if you make it essentially a battery-draining hog, no better than a laptop on standby, it can go 4+ days.

So it looks like if I underclock the cpu heavily(50%) battery drain gets decent. Its enough for most uses. When I play games and go to normal clock speed it can reach 20%+ per hr. It really depends on the program. O well.

Since battery life was not in the insane-o numbers... I thought I'd try out netarchy kernel (started with the 4.1.8...) basically idle time is similar with the stock rom, awake time is like 4% in a few minutes when sending a SMS with swype. I mean thats a bit much. Underclocked too.

So what the hell is going on here...

Fresh 3.3.0.1 rom
Netarchy 4.1.8 CFX

I did not clear my Dalvik cache because of the issue stated in this thread. Seems that clearing it definitely causes problems.

Looks like the only way to go for me is:

Rom: Fresh 3.3.0.1
Kernel: Stock

Otherwise I can get up to 40% bat drain when active. Can be close to <1%/hr when idle. But the active drain overshadows any idle gains.

Glad to see you finally found something that is satisfactory for you.
