Yeah that's a good question.
for now, i just download my music from a program on the App Store, and it just stores to the SD card.
I'd like to add a question to this:
Can i transfer my music from my Itunes library to my Desire? The thing is, most of my music is purchased, so is 'locked' within itunes, but i know there's an easy way around this, so i can play them, without limit on my phone.
any help?
Just found this thread. So I am not too sure if your questions have been answered but I will add my 2 cents worth.
I use a freeware from Maniac Tools called
Free M4A to MP3 Converter to convert all my iTunes purchases to MP3 format. I then connect HTC Desire via USB as Disk Drive. In the folder (on SD Card) called media, I have created a folder called Music. I then transferred all my converted iTunes purchases to this folder on the SD.
I do use my HTC Desire as an MP3 player. Quality of the play back is quite good without being brilliant. I find your choice of headphones will determine what your experience level will be like. I have a rather expensive headphone which has bass boost etc and with this headphone, quality is
almost as good as my iPod Touch 3G.
The biggest downfall in using the Desire as a media player is the battery. The media player drains the battery like you wouldn't believe. That is why I have a charger in my car, at home and in the office. Oh! And another one is that the Desire cannot play FLAC format which sucks.
Apart from that, I have not problems with using my HTC desire as a media player and if you can afford to have multiple chargers (I only had to buy my car charger as my wife has a Wildfire which uses the same charger so her charger is at home, mine is in the office and the purchased one is the car charger .. don't know where you are but in Australia, the car charger sells for ~$20 but the HTC chargers sell for over $50), I recommend it to anyone.
Hope this helps.
PS: Try out other Maniac Tools software. They are good and reliable. Also checkout
Koyote Software who also make some rather useful free tools.
PPS: I use HTC's native media player but there are some rather good ones on the market.
