Help Using the optical trackpad button to wake the phone

Screen mode widget lite does what you are looking for. It has 3 modes when you hit the widget, (slide lock activated, no slide lock, and screen always on). When in no slide lock or screen always on mode, when screen is off you can hit the trackpad and the screen comes on and is unlocked with no slider.

I know somebody will ask why would the screen be off if it was set to always on, so that is if you want to manually turn screen off with power button instead of it timing out all the time and you still retain trackpad wake up.

I just downloaded and installed this, and it does work as you say THANK YOU.

Only downfall is, the volume buttons wake the phone as well. Im going to try it out for a while and see if that is an issue, but i love how the lock screen is gone.

+1

on my inc, its random. Sometimes the track pad will unlock, sometimes it does nothing.

I have tired all of these and each have their pluses and minuses. A simple app to map the optical track button to wake and change nothing else would be awesome.

Couldn't agree more. I want the optical track button to do what the lock button does exactly. And nothing else.

Agreed that Screen Widget app is flakey. It worked at times but other times no. And I couldn't agree more, I don't need all of the other stars and glamour that these apps bring, i just want the optical button to turn it on. I actually think this should've been a stock option, as going to the TOP of the phone doesn't exactly make usability that easy.

It looks like there is a lot of interest in this app. I have also got a thread going on xda and tried developing the app myself but didn't make much progress. Perhaps with root that is now available this will become a reality. Like many others I would also be willing to pay for it.

i posted this in the root forum too...any one know a developer i could talk to to try and get them to create this?
If you manage to get it to work, please please please, post whatever app or info you have, here, being that I'm following it here.

Thnks!

Try an app called No Lock. It gets rid of the swipe unlock and let's you push the lock button, volume rocker, or optical pad to unlock (really in the case wake up) the phone. And it works reliably.

I tried no lock. It doesn't wake with the optical button. It also bypasses the unlock pattern, so I ditched it.

In case anyone is working on this, I am interested, but with a caveat: I want the power button to be disabled for waking the device. It's too easy to bump that button when taking in and out of your pocket. I never accidentally press the trackpad button though.

As I said before - it's working for desire (but you need root to do it). It's easy to port it to other phones.

Problem is, not all want to root. I know I have no desire to but would like this simple functionality. An app is what we need :-)

It can't be done with simple app - you need to send low level event from kernel space. Only kernel mod/kernel update can do that. So either wait for update and pray HTC will add this *feature* (it's just one line of code really). For now it's the only way.
