vanilla lock screen?

download the app WidgetLocker

No offense, but your recommendation is pretty poor. There's no need to buy an app JUST to get the Vanilla LS. If he asked for a great lockscreen replacement with different sliders and options, then yes, by all means recommend Widgetlocker. I know you were trying to help, I'm just saying.

OP to get the Vanilla LS without buying an app go into root explorer>system>app>HTCLockscreen.apk rename it to HTCLockscreen.bak and hot restart/reboot. To change back simply rename to apk and reboot. You may have to click the R/W (read and write permissions) in the top right corner before renaming.

And he wants to avoid rooting...

yea, i just got the phone a few days ago, so i really am not ready to do all that yet (and dont really think i will have a need honestly). All ive done so far is the droid x multitouch keyboard, and the widgetlocker, which i set to the moto lock screen

My apologizes, I thought this was in the all root section and I clearly didn't see "without rooting" in the OP. I'm so used to using RE for everything I forget you need to be rooted to use it

It seems that ES File Explorer (FREE from the market) is able to accomplish this. :) At least I can navigate to the file named HTCLockscreen.apk, then long-press, and one of the options is RENAME.

But the action will not be allowed. Widgetlocker is the way to go if someone wants to avoid rooting.
