is there any way to get the vanilla lock screen without rooting the phone?
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.
Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
download the app WidgetLocker
No offense, but your recommendation is pretty poor. There's no need to buy an app JUST to get the Vanilla LS. If he asked for a great lockscreen replacement with different sliders and options, then yes, by all means recommend Widgetlocker. I know you were trying to help, I'm just saying.
OP to get the Vanilla LS without buying an app go into root explorer>system>app>HTCLockscreen.apk rename it to HTCLockscreen.bak and hot restart/reboot. To change back simply rename to apk and reboot. You may have to click the R/W (read and write permissions) in the top right corner before renaming.

My apologizes, I thought this was in the all root section and I clearly didn't see "without rooting" in the OP. I'm so used to using RE for everything I forget you need to be rooted to use it
At least I can navigate to the file named HTCLockscreen.apk, then long-press, and one of the options is RENAME.It seems that ES File Explorer (FREE from the market) is able to accomplish this.At least I can navigate to the file named HTCLockscreen.apk, then long-press, and one of the options is RENAME.
